50% Summoning A Devil With Cranberry Juice / Chapter 2: Sinking Into Evil

章 2: Sinking Into Evil

"So? What do you know about magic?" Valatina asked the little boy who was staring at her with curiosity.

Gunner sat on the ground with his legs and feet together. It was a prim and proper way of sitting which made him look like a good boy.

Valatina ignored his out-of-character sitting style. She stood in front of him with her hands on her hips.

"Magic?"

Cutely, Gunner tilted his head. He blinked his eyes, showing his innocence about the subject.

"Argh…"

Valatina covered her eyes with her palm and sighed.

It took her a few minutes to calm down. She found it hard to get used to this weird kid.

"That magic circle you drew to summon me used magic. Let me see that note."

With her request, Gunner gave the note to Valatina, who took it impatiently. She glanced at the magic circle described in it and looked back at Gunner.

"Seriously? You made this magic circle without knowing magic…"

Valatina took several deep breaths. She realized Gunner had the innate talent to become a powerful devil. With his dark heart and talent, he would surely display considerable strength once he fully grows up.

"I-Is that bad?" Gunner asked, fidgeting with uncertainty.

"It's good. But… Sigh. Never mind."

Valatina gave up upon seeing his innocent gaze.

There were two ways to gain supernatural abilities in this world. Each path wields comparable strength and neither is better than the other.

The most common path was the "Elemental Path".

By summoning elemental spirits or creatures, one could gain the power of said elemental spirit/creature. For example, summoning a devil like Valatina would give the summoner the ability to order her.

The other, rarer path was called the "Truth Path".

By seeking the hidden truths of the world, one could gain the power of said truth. For example, by understanding the rules of evil, one could become a devil.

Valatina observed Gunner's facial expression. She spoke a lot of words and didn't expect him to understand or remember them all.

In her opinion, he was mentally untrained and too ignorant to proceed fast.

"Gulp. I have to massacre my village to become a devil?"

Gunner's face exuded intense curiosity. At first glance, he appeared apprehensive.

I-I-I can kill people now??? Woah! She is the best teacher!

Valatina sensed his thoughts and smiled. It was an evil grin that reached from ear to ear.

"Have you killed before?"

Her voice deepened, charming Gunner.

"No…"

Gunner averted his gaze, but he felt happy. He wanted her to show him how it was done! He wanted to learn more about this devil who called herself Valatina.

"Kakakaka! Why don't you kill that woman over there?"

Valatina pointed beyond the shrubs surrounding them.

Gunner stood up and peeked through the gaps and saw a woman with a large bosom. She held an empty basket as she used her fingers like a comb to pluck cranberries into it.

"Auntie Prusti…"

Gunner pressed his lips together.

"Excited?"

Valatina stopped behind Gunner. Her gaze narrowed as she stared at the clueless Prusti.

"Hehe. A little."

Gunner muttered, revealing his dark thoughts. As he did so, a sense of happiness and freedom spread through his whole body.

Ahh… Finally, I can speak freely.

It felt so good an evil smile escaped his lips.

"It is in the middle of the day. Are you still going to kill her?"

Her words tingled Gunner's ears. It was the sweet suggestion of the devil, a voice that was hard to resist.

"I don't have a weapon."

Gunner looked at her.

His intense gaze was filled with desire as he grinned.

"Kakaka! I won't lend you a weapon."

Valatina laughed, and her eyes narrowed.

"Hahaha…"

Gunner laughed just like her. He found a large rock in the corner and lifted it up with both hands. It was hard for him to carry with his small stature.

"Kakakakaka!"

Valatina laughed further, guessing his plan. She smiled and looked at his back meaningfully.

What a surprise this was. My first summoning is getting exciting.

All she did was give him a reason. The power was still in his hands if he wanted to stop. However, he never hesitated, and he seemed happy.

Gunner walked out of his secret hideout and waved at Prusti.

"Auntieeeee~!"

His cute shout attracted her attention. She turned her head swiftly and smiled, knowing that it was him.

"My! We meet again!" Prusti tiptoed to Gunner.

His cute and innocent face made her squeal with excitement.

I want to squeeze his cheeks so bad!

She wished that she had a child every time she saw him. He was the sweetest child she knew.

Gunner raised the heavy rock over his head.

"Look, Auntie! I'm strong!"

Gunner genuinely shouted with a smile.

His words were from his heart but the meaning within was entirely different from what Prusti would ever imagine.

"Woahhhh! Such a strong man!"

Prusti hyped up the little boy, feeling proud that he was so sweet.

She couldn't help but crouch in front of him.

"You're so cu–"

However, her vision blacked as the rock hit her head.

. . .

An hour later, the cranberry juice pool was mixed with a redder liquid with a strong smell of rust. At the corner was a pile of cranberry branches covering a corpse where a small channel of red liquid poured into the pool.

"Kakakaka! Can you feel it? Everyone can become a devil, you know?"

Maintaining her evil grin, Valatina observed Gunner.

"I feel happy~" Gunner replied, fostering an innocent smile, just like an angel's.

Seeing this, Valatina's grin grew wider and more evil.
