章 21: Disguise
The night was long for the father and son awaiting for the Patriarch to stir awake from his slumber.
The doctor just left after saying that the Patriarch is having a slow recovery. All they can do is wait.
"Father, when do you think my brother will wake up?" Song Huo pulled up the blanket and covered Song Xia's shoulders.
General Song Qing shook his head and sighed. "I don't know. Just like what the doctor told us, all we can do is wait...how is her progress?"
"She's doing much better than I thought. However, she has false spirit roots." Song Huo sighed.
"Oh? We haven't had anyone in our clan with more than two spirit roots for a long time. Not since our ancestor.."
Once the father and son left the room, Long De, the guard approached them.
He cupped his hands in greeting. "Masters, the Madam came here just now. She wanted to talk to the doctor. I informed her that you both were inside and that you told us to not allow anybody in."
Song Qing and Song Huo exchanged glances, their hands clenched in fists and teeth gritted.
"I see. Well done. Guard this place well.." Song Qia waved his arm and left Song Xia's courtyard with Song Huo.
When morning came, the mother and son sound stone that he had begun to alert him. He injected qi on it.
"I'm here."
"Uncle, I want to go to the city tomorrow." Song Jia said from the other sound stone.
"Are you sure? What if somebody recognizes you?"
"No worries, Uncle. I found a treasure that can help me disguise myself."
"Oh? Alright then. Bring your maid with you.."
"Can't do, Uncle. There's only this treasure. They would be suspicious if I took her along and somebody recognized her."
"Alright. But I'll send a few secret guards with you instead."
"That's fine with me." She shrugged.
"Oh. Right. It would be better if you used the same disguise as last time. That way it wouldn't be odd to have you walking around the residence."
"Mn! I got that already.. Don't worry, uncle. And I'll be back as soon as I'm bored going around.."
Song Huo would have said more but thought that his niece probably got bored already and was needing something to refresh her eyes. It was fine, at least her niece would be aided by the secret guards whenever she needed it.
Meanwhile, in the underground chambers, Song Jia was trying out her disguise. She had found a ring earlier in the Treasure room and was fascinated with the stone in the center that the user could twist it left and right.
When she turned it to the right, her appearance changed into that of a young man. And when she turns it to the left, her feminine features.
She wanted to see the marketplace and check what items are profitable. She was also quite bored just staying underground or at the back of the mountain. She only had Lu Ping and Crystal to talk to.
Other than the ring that could help her disguise herself, she also found manuscripts about alchemy. She was surprised to find not only five books but a whole shelf of it dedicated to Alchemy.
Her father was still unconscious so she had to find a way to help him recover faster. Right now, her rank isn't enough to be able to refine pills and elixirs. In between her research, she dedicated her time to cultivate and practice martial arts.
It was a good thing that one day outside is equivalent to five days in the Spirit Artifact. It gave her time to spend per task.
As of now, she's at the peak of rank 2 level 9 of Initial Foundation.
She left the Spirit Artifact and went back to her room as Lu Ping was about to enter it.
"Morning Miss Jia. I've already prepared breakfast for you.." She placed the dishes on the table.
"Mn,. Thanks. Come and join me.."
"Ah.. Thank you Miss!" Lu Ping was about to decline when Song Jia had already served food on the small bowl and placed it in front of Lu Ping.
"Sure, Sure.. by the way, how do you feel now?"
"I feel great, Miss! When I woke up today I felt lighter and more focused!"
Song Jia tried to determine which rank and level is Lu Ping now.
"Of course! Since you're already at the third level of the first rank!"
"WHAT?! Am I really?!" She slapped the door in her excitement.
"Uh-huh.." Song Jia proceeded to eat her meal.
"Wow! Your acupuncture was really effective then!"
Song Jia smiled faintly.
"By the way, I will be strolling around the city tomorrow."
"I'll come with you, miss!"
Song Jia shook her head. "No, they'll be suspicious if I take you with me. I will disguise myself as a male after all."
"But, miss! What if they find out your identity?" Lu Ping was really worried about her, she didn't want the incident to happen again.
"I have this.. It will turn me into a male in their eyes." She demonstrated the use of the Illusion ring.
In a blink of an eye, Song Jia turned into a boy. She looked like her disguise during her own funeral. Even so, it didn't diminish her beauty. She's handsome! If she was a real boy, Lu Ping would have probably swooned already. Well, even if she is not using the Illusion ring, for Lu Ping, her mistress is the most beautiful girl in the world.
"Ohh.. You really do look like a male.. If only you smell like one.." Lu Ping smiled at her helplessly.
"Ehhhh? I'm not using anything to smell like a girly girl though"
"Yeah.. Your natural scent betrays you…" Lu Ping thought that with her words, Song Jia would bring her along to help her make an alibi.
"Ah! I got it! Hehehe.." Song Jia suddenly thought of an idea and was thoroughly pleased with it
'Yoshhhh! Looks like I've come up with another business idea…' Her eyes formed into crescents as she laughed.
Lu Ping narrowed her eyes as she watched her mistress looking so pleased with herself, wondering what she was thinking.
Since the ambush, her mistress has been acting differently.
'Oh well, at least she's happy..'
