Her head throbbed, aching as if someone had struck her with a hammer. She couldn't even scream; all she could do was gasp silently, her body trembling in the man's arms. The pain was sharp but fleeting, and when her vision cleared once more, she realized her cheeks were wet with tears.

"Ah…" A soft, breathless sound escaped her lips, and her gaze slowly lifted to Rhaegar. His jaw was clenched, his expression taut with pain—and strangely, he looked as though he had suffered more than she had. 

Strange. Somehow, that kiss brought her comfort and relief as if his lips had healing powers. 

It took a moment for Lorelai to find the strength to move, but she managed to raise her hand and gently caress the king's cheek, just as he had done for her minutes ago.
