As it turned out, there was not actually a card by the name of Labradorite Dragon in existence, meaning it probably hadn't been created yet. Ruby Dragon and Alexandrite dragon however did exist. And alongside a third copy of Five Headed Dragon, Yarden wasted no time in buying them up.
And he discovered something else as well. A card showed to him in a catalogue by Sadie.
A gem dragon he had no idea existed. A boss monster that ruled over the archetype. Diamond Head Dragon.
And interestingly enough, it was a Ritual Monster.
Yarden eyed the card art depicted in the catalogue and admired it as he leaned over the counter at the register. It depicted a huge muscular green scaled dragon, with glittering diamond spikes running from its snout all the way down its back to the lip of its tail and even running through the membrane of its wings.
It looked almost like a fusion between Hyozanryu and Luster Dragon 2.
It was a level eight monster, with one hundred attack and defense points. Not exactly very impressive as far as that went, except for the effect.
'This card cannot be normal or special summoned. Must first be special summoned by using The ritual spell card, "Gem Dragons luminance". If summoned this way, this card gains the Atk and def of "Hyozanryu" added to its own. This card gains 300 attk for each "gem dragon" monster in your graveyard or on your field. Should this card leave the field, you can special summon one "Hyozanryu" from your hand, deck or graveyard. While this card is in your graveyard, if your opponent activates a card effect, you can banish this card, negate the activation of it and destroy that card.'
With its effect, it turned into a pretty decent monster, for this point at least. And it had a graveyard effect, which was pretty sweet.
And that wasn't even going into its ritual spell card that had a little side benefit graveyard effect as well, that apparently boosted the attack points of all dragon monsters on the controllers side of the field by two hundred while it was in the graveyard and by banishing it, you could special summon Diamond Head Dragon from the graveyard or banished zone.
"So do you want me to put an order in for it?" Sadie asked.
Yarden looked up from the catalogue and shrugged, "Yeah, sure," he replied, "I wanted to collect all the gem dragons, so I need it if I want to complete the set right?"
"Alright then hun," Sadie smiled, "It shouldn't take that long to get here. You should check back next weekend and it'll probably be here by then."
"Cool." he nodded. He pushed up off of the counter, closing the catalogue and was about to bid the woman goodbye when a thought occurred to him, "Actually Sadie, are there any interesting cards you've got for sale that nobody wants to buy, like Revived Serpent Night Dragon and the like."
"Nothing that specifically helps your dragons hun," she giggled, then tapped her chin and hummed in thought, "There is an odd card that went through a bit of a phase of popularity before people got fed up with it though. It was designed to let duelists basically feel like they're fighting alongside their monsters, but it has a pretty nasty kickback that everyone I saw had trouble playing around."
Designed to let you feel like you were fighting alongside your monsters? Color him intrigued. "I wouldn't mind giving that a look over." he nodded.
"Alright, one sec." she replied, and turned on her heel and headed into the backroom behind the counter.
Yarden drummed his fingers on the counter and waited a minute or two for her to return. When the brown haired woman came out of the back room, she was carrying a small dusty display case.
"Here you go." Sadie set it down and popped the display case open for him to get a look at the card held within.
Its text read 'Transformation.' It was a spell card, and it depicted the shadowed out form of a person with crackling bolts of lightning or energy swirling around their body and seeping into them.
'This card can be activated at any point in either players turn. Tribute one monster you control. Equip this card to the player. That monster becomes armor around you, granting you the monsters attack points and effects. You are counted as a monster and can initiate attacks. Destroy any monster that attacks the equipped player directly, and the equipped player takes no battle damage from direct attacks. When this card is sent to the Graveyard, the equipped player takes damage equal to the combined attack points of all monsters destroyed by this effect, and the tributed monster, doubled. The attack points given by this card does not effect damage calculation for direct attacks and the player is only treated as a monster for the players battle phase. When this card is destroyed, the damage from it will always be directed at the player who played the card.'
As Yarden read over the effect of the card, his eyes began to progressively get wider. 'This thing is busted!' he gaped inwardly. It was basically a quick play spell card and an equip spell card that equipped to the player themselves. If it was activated during the battle phase, he could tribute a monster that had already attacked to basically make a second attack with its attack points.
Sure, the life point deduction kickback could end a duel in an instant if it was played wrong. But, with cards like Barrel Behind The Door, or Rainbow Life, that kickback could be used to get a massive advantage. And on top of that, it basically allowed a player to have six monsters on the field rather than five.
And even as a last resort it could buy time when the player had no monsters or spells or traps and help them last a few turns.
Why the hell wasn't this being used? It was an absolutely overpowered card. This thing would have been banned within a week back home!
"I'll take it." Yarden decided right then and there. He'd already spent thirty-five thousand DP today, but this was too good not to get his hands on!
"I thought you might," Sadie happily cheered a bit, "That'll be ten thousand DP please and thank you."
...Ah, no wonder most of the scrubs weren't playing it then. Most of the idiots wouldn't understand what the card could be used with to negate its disadvantages. On top of that, it was incredibly expensive.
Well no matter, it was completely worth it. He quickly payed for the card and added it to his collection before bidding Sadie goodbye and leaving the card shop behind.
As he left the card shop and entered out into the school hallways, there was a shimmer of light at his side and Dark Magician Girl phased into existence beside him.
"Heya Master!" she greeted cheerfully.
"Welcome back," he greeted her before sending her a raised eyebrow, "You were gone a while." he noted.
"Mmm, that spirit was a tough one to track down," the voluptuous blonde spirit pouted, "He was constantly on the move while I tried to follow him, oh you were right, it's a Jinzo by the way." she informed.
"Is it now?" Yarden grinned, just as he'd hoped it was.
"Just as you guessed Master," she nodded, "He seemed to be chasing a student back and forth throughout the island. Even cut him off from getting on a ship to leave the island."
"Now we just need to chase it down ourselves then," he mused, before frowning and shooting the beautiful spirit a worried look, "Will you guys be able to take it okay?"
"One on one it would be really tough, and I'd have a big chance in losing," she shrugged, before smiling back brightly, "But don't worry master! Between me, Hyonzaryu and Serpent Night Dragon, we shouldn't have too much trouble with it." she reassured him.
Alright then, he'd take her word for it. She was the expert in all of this after all.
A feral grin split Yarden's face. 'It's time to hunt him down.'
