Sonic reached out his arms towards the panicking Sonja. It looked like she also knew that Pico's crying could attract more of the monsters. Sonja quickly put Pico in Sonic's arms. He continued to scream and cry. Sonic looked at Pico adoringly. This little goofball hadn't quite become his world like he had become Sonja's yet (a little to Sonic's envy). Sonic still needed time to learn to love him. But he was pretty happy with this little guy. Sonic closed his eyes and opened his mouth to talk. Out of it, came a lovely, soothing singing voice.
"Hush little baby, don't shed a tear... Sonic's gonna buy you some Extreme Gear... and if that Extreme Gear explodes, Sonic's gonna buy you what you want most..." Sonic looked up for a second, at everyone else. Pico seemed to have calmed down, and was now cuddling Sonic. Everyone had this look of adoration on their face, with a hint of laughter. Mostly just laughter from Buck. But Sonic didn't care about that deer. He continued to sing. "Sonic will be with you all the time, as long as you still remember this rhyme..."
Pico made little happy baby sounds as he snuggled Sonic's white, furry tummy. Sonic opened his tired eyes, looking down at the adorable woolly mammoth in his arms. Everyone was looking at him with a surprised look on their face. "Uhh... how'd I do?" Sonic asked. Sonja clapped, and soon, everyone else did as well. They didn't even notice that the sand in the hourglass was now floating up rather than down.
