With Nicasi safe and sleeping in his bed, Rowan's focus shifted completely to Wren. He'd done what he needed to do — what Wren would have wanted him to do — but nothing would pull him away from the man he loved now.

When he departed Nicasi's house, Rowan had planned on going to Loma to ask her to reach out to Yamm for him, but then it occurred to him. He might not have the direct connection to Yamm that his sister did, but he did have his own connection to the god, growing right there in his garden.

Immediately he changed course through the Shadows.

As much as he wanted to ensure Loma's physical well-being with his own eyes and check on Mara too, Rowan couldn't spare another moment. He knew Loma would understand, and he knew she would help Mara understand, too.

Rowan attempted to transport himself exactly where he needed to be, but by this point, he was so exhausted, the Shadows only took him as far as his bridge.
