Mary walked out of the smithy.

"Who's next?" She asked.

"I am." Champion said. He stood up. "Wish me luck."

"Get in. It's not like you're going into a fight or something." Mary rolled her eyes.

The others shook their heads.

Champion walked into the smithy. He took a seat on the stool opposite Grandmaster Bayero.

"You must be Champion." The old man said.

"Yes, sir." Champion nodded politely.

Grandmaster Bayero sized up the youth before him.

"You strike me as an intellectual. I'm not even sure why you became a soldier. But still, a chain as a weapon?"

Champion laughed sheepishly while scratching his cheek.
