I blinked in both disappointment and relief. Why even bother trying to hide this? It wasn't like not being able to take game home every day would make us all starve to death. And they had some good days that could compensate for the bad days anyway. At least, that's how I remembered it should work.
"We couldn't find anything out there besides small rabbits!" Bernstein reasoned, making me groan as the totally reasonable explanation was being blown out of proportion. "That's barely enough to feed one person!"
"Bernstein, that's exactly what hunts would usually yield," I calmly explained as I stopped a vein in my temple from bursting. "Hunting means you catch a lot of them. And even then, we can't expect to hunt more than what's actually available in the forest."
To my surprise, the blonde suddenly clammed up. "I-I knew that. I just wanted to get more than enough to feed us."
What a fvcking tsundere.
