Chapter 34: The Non-Pureblood Wizard of Slytherin
Crack~ Crack~ Crack~
The tip of the wand was aimed at the wooden table in front of the two, and under the influence of magic, the table began to sprout and grow leaves.
A dead tree had come to life again!
Dumbledore, witnessing everything firsthand, wore a look of shock on his face and muttered, "Unbelievable, truly unbelievable! This overwhelming life force... it's as if nature itself is casting the spell."
"All along, magic has presented itself purely in the form of energy."
"Even among wizards, with the distinction between white and black magic, and the existence of dark magic as a special case, the essence is still just pure magical energy. Yet, this type of magic, inherently carrying a certain quality, is something I've encountered for the first time in my life!"
Dumbledore's face lit up with the innocent delight of a child, as though he had discovered a treasure.
When Chu Yang's magic finally faded, a small tree had grown from the table, nearly reaching the ceiling, with ivy and colorful flowers blooming from the vines.
The portraits on the walls could no longer contain themselves, breaking into a cacophony of chatter.
"Amazing! This is truly a stunning sight!"
"This completely overturns my understanding. That child created such an astonishing effect without casting any spell."
"Dumbledore, hurry up and catch him for research! Perhaps he could usher in a great era!"
Chu Yang slowly raised his head, glaring coldly at the portrait that had just called for his capture.
Phineas Nigellus Black
The first headmaster of Slytherin, and the most unpopular headmaster in Hogwarts history!
He was also the great-great-grandfather of Sirius Black, Harry's godfather.
In short... he was the most annoying of all the headmaster portraits!
"Oh, don't say that, Headmaster Phineas," Dumbledore adjusted his beard and wiped his glasses, "He's about to join Slytherin, so technically, he's one of your juniors."
"What?" Phineas suddenly roared in anger!
His portrait showed nothing but a gaping, enraged mouth. "I will never allow a Muggle-born child to enter the great house of Slytherin!"
Phineas had overheard the conversation between Chu Yang and Dumbledore, and knew Chu Yang was from an orphanage.
As for Dumbledore's later suggestion that Chu Yang might be the descendant of a famous wizarding family from the East, Phineas didn't take it seriously.
Since he hadn't used Legilimency on Chu Yang, he couldn't accept Dumbledore's viewpoint.
"You've been dead for more than sixty years, and yet you're still clinging to that boring bloodline theory?" A female headmistress mocked him, her disdain for Phineas evident.
Chu Yang glanced at her name.
Dilys Derwent
Before becoming a renowned headmistress in Hogwarts history, she had served as a chief healer at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
Dilys had been headmistress long before Phineas, so whenever she spoke, Phineas usually kept quiet.
After the two portraits fell silent, Chu Yang finally asked, "Why was I placed in Slytherin?"
Dumbledore was silent for a moment before saying, "Slytherin is an excellent house, but they hold overly rigid views on certain matters. As headmaster, I cannot forcefully interfere with the students' beliefs."
"The person who can change their thinking is best suited to be one of their own students."
Chu Yang frowned and asked, "Why me?"
Dumbledore explained, "The person who can convince them must come from a Muggle background; otherwise, it wouldn't have any significance. But wizards from such backgrounds rarely possess the qualifications to achieve this. You, however, have extraordinary potential..."
Chu Yang was skeptical. He had the feeling that this seemingly kind old man had a belly full of schemes.
Suddenly, he recalled Dumbledore's plan to shape Harry Potter into the "Savior."
Oh man, could he be treating me as a backup plan?
The more Chu Yang thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. But under the current circumstances, it was hard for him to refuse Dumbledore's arrangement, especially since the compensation they had agreed upon might also disappear.
"Alright then, Slytherin it is. But let me make one thing clear: if my classmates aren't friendly towards me, I'll definitely fight back when necessary. You can't blame me when the time comes!"
After all, they were just a bunch of pre-graduation dark wizard trainees. I'll fight dark wizards if I have to!
Seeing Chu Yang's eager expression, Dumbledore chuckled and teased, "If you feel your safety is at risk, of course you can defend yourself. No problem at all—I can guarantee that!"
"In that case, I'm happy to join Slytherin." Chu Yang bowed slightly, then reminded Dumbledore, "Please also remember our agreement!"
"I never go back on my word." Dumbledore winked playfully at Chu Yang, his demeanor that of a mischievous old man.
He then summoned a house-elf and instructed, "Please fetch Professor Snape."
The elf swiftly disappeared from the headmaster's office.
Hearing Snape's name, Chu Yang sighed silently in his heart.
If there was anyone in the Harry Potter world who could be considered the most tragic, it would be him.
The girl he loved was wooed by the very boy who bullied him, and yet he had to risk his life to protect their son.
Severus Snape's deep love for Lily Evans commanded respect, but it was also a bit pitiful and foolish.
In all honesty, if Chu Yang were in Snape's position, he would definitely have found a way to eliminate James Potter.
The humiliation Snape suffered during that infamous fifth-year incident where he was hung upside down, left a permanent scar on his life, driving him apart from Lily, his one true love.
From Harry's perspective, James Potter was a great father. From the viewpoint of Sirius Black and his friends, James was a trustworthy friend.
But objectively speaking, they were just a bunch of jerks—worse than Draco Malfoy, even.
So how a person is perceived as good or bad depends entirely on perspective.
About ten minutes later, after sending the new students to Slytherin, Snape finally arrived. He greeted Dumbledore respectfully before turning to Chu Yang with a cold expression.
The astonishing scene in the Great Hall was still fresh in Snape's mind.
He remembered when Professor McGonagall had said the Sorting Hat couldn't decide this child's future. Now that Dumbledore had summoned him to the headmaster's office, the reason was clear.
Sure enough, Dumbledore spoke the next moment: "Professor Snape, from today, Chu Yang is a Slytherin student. Please take him to the dormitory."
You're placing an orphanage-raised wizard in Slytherin?
Snape could already imagine how hard Chu Yang's life would be from here on out.
