章 19: Chapter Twenty
"Your Highness," she uttered, glancing back at the wall before it disappeared. Her alertness spiked and she turned to face the prince.
"Please calm down, Skylar," he soothed, patting her hair. Gradually, her breathing returned to normal and she felt weak in his arms. She looked into his eyes, attempting to interpret the emotions she saw.
"Are you alright?" His tender tone caught her off guard. She couldn't help but wonder if he always spoke with such gentleness.
"Yes, Your Highness," she responded, as he released her. A sense of loneliness gripped her.
"Is this your first time seeing it?" he inquired.
"No, I noticed it on my first day here. It seems to vanish whenever you're around," she admitted, a hint of fear in her voice.
"You can see it?" His disbelief was evident.
"Don't worry, I won't dwell on it. Should I erase it from your memory?" he offered, to which she shook her head.
"Then don't dwell on it in that way. Your safety is my priority. I fear your curiosity may betray you, especially since you will soon be my bride. If that happens cause I know it would settle happen just call me," he stated, slyly smirking as he looked at the wall. Suddenly, Skylar had a hiccup, causing her to raise her hand in protest.
"Pervert," he teased, causing her to object.
"I am not a pervert," she finally spoke.
"I didn't say you were," he replied, causing her to look away from him.
"I'll be out for three days, so if you're bored, you could go spend time with Arya. Her wedding is coming up soon," she added.
"I thought she was getting engaged," he said.
"Damien overheard a conversation between father and his advisor earlier," she explained.
"He was ease-dropping?" Skylar asked.
"He did not eavesdrop. One of his abilities is hearing, and he can hear things from a thousand miles away if he wants to. He just happened to hear it," he clarified.
"So he can hear what we are talking about now?" Skylar asked, surprised.
"Yes, he can. Now, I have already told you, so you can go to bed," he said, ignoring her question. She glanced at him, unsure of what to say.
"I am scared to stay here because of what I saw earlier, and I don't want to think about it. But I am also afraid to go down, in case I run into Prince Derek," she confessed, looking down.
"What happened to the courageous vixen?" he teased.
"Of course I am still courageous. What can I do without my master?" she replied, her tone a bit upset.
"Are you upset that I am leaving?" he asked.
"Of course not. I am really happy that I know who Prince Derek is, and I will try my best to stay away from him," Skylar said.
"You should stay away from Louise even more importantly," he said, and she nodded with a smile.
"When I return, we will announce our marriage. So get ready," he added.
"Why did you choose me?" Skylar dared to ask.
"Because you are different, and you are a trustworthy person," he answered, causing her to smile widely.
"Of course I am trustworthy, and I am also the perfect match for you she it's about benefits. You don't have to worry about anything," she assured him, and he nodded in agreement.
"Damien will keep you company whenever he is here. You can ask him or Arya if you have any questions," he said, and she smiled as she nodded.
"Sure, I will."
"You can go to bed now," he said.
"But I need to clean up the dining table," she protested.
"There's no need for that. Damien has probably taken care of it already, You should rest" he said and she bowed and went to her room.
"How did she discover this?" Damien inquired, his tone infused with admiration, as his gaze rested upon the portrait adorning the wall.
"She nearly touched it," he responded, with a sense of relief evident in his voice.
"Nearly? What happens if one actually makes contact with it?" Damien questioned.
"Find out for yourself, if you're curious enough," he replied, as he strode back to his quarters. Damien examined the painted image, so lifelike it was almost tangible. He couldn't help but believe that
touching it would lead to a life of agony and torment, just like Ramiel's. It was excruciating to be helpless,
unable to aid his brother trapped in eternal darkness. Yet, he held on to the hope that perhaps Skylar could make a difference,
though he had no certainty of its feasibility.
Later that night, Skylar changed into her nightwear and went to bed, lying on her back and gazing up at the glass ceiling. She couldn't help but ponder on the world outside the palace, wondering if it was as terrible as they made it seem. Tomorrow would undoubtedly be chaotic, with the announcement of her wedding and the ensuing preparations. It was ironic how she had sworn off relationships, and yet now she was on the verge of marriage. Life never goes as planned.
As she drifted off to sleep, she found herself in a dream.
In her dream, she saw herself standing in front of a mirror. Though the reflection didn't quite resemble her, she knew it was herself.
She was nearly ethereal in her appearance. The fine details of her gown, adorned with intricate beading and lace, framed her delicate features, while her hair was styled in a lavish updo, emphasizing the graceful curve of her neck. The radiance of her skin and eyes were unparalleled, and the dress hugged her curves with an effortless elegance. The masterpiece that was her wedding dress exuded a sense of opulence and charm. Crafted with the most exquisite materials, it boasted delicate lace embellishments that cascaded down the sleeves and skirt. The bodice, meticulously adorned with tiny pearls and crystals, added to the dress's allure. As she walked, the train trailed behind her like a graceful wave, showcasing its intricate design and attention to detail. Her happiness was palpable, and Skylar couldn't help but ponder the extent of her joy in that majestic dress.
