"Ugh," a groan left his parted lips as he cracked open his eyes. The bright light blinded Rowan for a second. He lifted his hand, shielding his eyes from the light. "I'm starting to think the superstitious black cats are right," he mutters, looking over at Selena, who just blinked confusedly at him. "What do you mean?" She asks him while placing her hand on his forehead, as if to check for a fever. "Since I met you, I've had nothing but bad luck," he teases. "I always seem to wake up in a hospital bed." He points out the cat, who just narrows her eyes at him. "Haha, real funny," she drawls out sarcastically at him.
"I thought so." He responds while shifting up, "How are you feeling?" She inquires, concerned. "I'm a bit sore." He answers honestly as he stretches out his stiff limbs. "Other than that, I feel pretty good," he continues as he shifts on the bed. "My chest doesn't hurt anymore," he says with a small smile at the realization.
"Good." Selena responds as she leans in, giving him a peck on the lips. "Back away, I don't want any more bad luck," he teases her once more while scrunching his nose up as if to ward off evil. Selena glares at him before hitting him lightly on the shoulder. "You are an idiot," she chuckles as she shakes her head at her mate.
"So what now?" he asks her curiously. "Well, now we are going to train." Selena replied to his question. "Why do we have to train?" He inquired, lifting a brow at her. "So you can survive the next time we have to face off against the dark warlock," she scolds him while pinching the bridge of her nose. "Oh yeah," he said with a nod before swinging his legs over the edge. "Does that mean I will be a hunter now?" He questions Selena, looking up at her as she stands by his bedside
"Alright, alright, no need to be so protective," he said with his hands raised up in surrender as he got out of bed. "First a shower," he muttered, taking a sniff of himself before grabbing a spare change of clothes. "Yes, that is definitely a good idea," she said, her nose scrunching up as she leaned away. "I'm going to go check on Draven and his family; see you in a bit," she said, giving him a kiss on the cheek before heading out the door.
After a quick shower, Rowan changed into a pair of black cargo pants, a white T-shirt, and his boots. 'Man, I feel a lot better now.' he thinks, stretching his arms up. "Well, time to get to training, I guess," he said to himself as he headed out of his room, his stomach grumbling loudly as he wandered down the hallway. "Good to see you about," a witch greeted him. "Morning, is there anywhere I can get food?" he asks her politely, receiving a nod from the woman. "Yes, there is a dining room down the hall to the right," she informed him, pointing down the hall.
"Thanks; have a good day," he said with a wave, following her directions to the dining room. Once entering the room, he was greeted with the smell of eggs and bacon. His stomach gave another growl. Walking forward, he found himself in line, grabbing a tray and plating himself a sizable amount of food. Finding an empty table, he sat down and began to dig in. His plate was quickly emptied, and he let out a contented sigh as he felt his stomach fill with food.
"Hey kid." A gruff voice came from behind him as a hand rested on his shoulder. Rowan's head whipped around, his eyes widening as he saw Draven looming over him. "You alive, huh?" he asks, a small smirk playing on his lips as he stares down at the teen. "Yeah, I am," he stuttered, swallowing thickly as he looked up at the beast of a man. "Where is Selena? She said she was going to check up on you and your family." Rowan inquired. "I got kicked out by them and wanted to have a girl talk." Draven said, quoting the girl, talking with his fingers as he chuckled while sitting down.
"I see." Rowan nodded, turning back to his food as Draven pulled up a chair beside him. "So, I heard Selena wants you to train." Draven asked, picking at his nails bored. "Yeah, she wants to make sure I can defend myself next time we face Zarek." Rowan stated, stuffing another fork full of food into his mouth. Draven nods in agreement. "I can help." Draven offers with a grin.
"Really?" Rowan asks, surprised by the offer. "Hell yeah." Draven responds, slapping the teen's back hard. "It will be fun to see what you have, kid." Draven laughs, grinning wolfishly. Rowan rubbed his back, wincing slightly at the impact. "You had some courage in you when you charged at Zarek to try and save Selena." Draven complements Rowan. "But that also got you beaten half to death, so eh?" Draven says this while shrugging his shoulders.
"Come on, boy, run." Draven laughs as he chases Rowan around the clearing in his werewolf form, with Selena, Sammy, and his daughter sitting on the sidelines watching the show with amusement. "You're too slow, kid." Draven howls out with laughter as he tackles Rowan into the ground. "Draven, not too rough." Sammy shouts out at him. "You hurt him, I hurt you, dog!" Selena roars out in anger.
"Relax. I didn't even put much force into that hit." Draven growls back while rolling his eyes as he lets Rowan up. "It's alright." Rowan coughed up dust, shaking the dirt off of himself as he stood up. "Again."
Hours pass, and Rowan ends up under a tree panting as he lays on Selena's lap. "You did great, Rowan." Selena praises him, running her fingers through his hair. "I'm exhausted." Rowan moans out. "Aww, come on, boy, that was a good workout," Draven taunts him, nudging his foot with his own. "My legs feel like jelly." Rowan complains, rolling on his side and groaning in protest as his muscles ache in protest.
"You will get used to it." Sammy laughs as she stands up and walks over to the teen. "You did good, but you need to exercise more often," she said, patting his back. "Ya, thanks." Rowan replies, sitting up and wiping the sweat from his face. "We will do this again tomorrow," Selena promises him.
"Oh god," he said with a grimace as he thought about doing this again tomorrow. "Don't worry, Rowan; I will teach you some basic self-defense soon as well." Selena added with a smile as she stood up, offering him her hand. "Well, I am starving," she said as she looked in the direction of the main house.
