"You want me to show you around Mezio?"
If I wanted to explore this country, then I would need Saliza to guide me around and make sure I don't do anything that will result in people finding out that I'm from earth. I needed to know more about this place if I'm going to live in it.
"Sure, I can show you around." Hopefully, I can learn and adapt to a new lifestyle, at least until I somehow figure out a way to get back home. I'm also curious to see what sort of society and cultures are in a world like this.
"Where are you guys going?" Serith asked. When I told him that me and Saliza were going to walk around town, he asked if he could join us. I don't mind him joining us, so long as he doesn't ask me personal questions.
We started exploring the town to see what's in this town. The way most people dress here weren't too different from the people on earth.
Shirts with a design on them, business suits, hoodies, it's similar to earth. But I noticed that unlike earth, only a handful of people had phones.
Speaking of phones, What do the electronics in this world look like? Since people seem to rely more on magic and strange items, they probably haven't made much advancements in technology.
I asked Saliza to bring me to a nearby electronics store so I could see what technology is like in this world. I was right, they didn't make much advancement in technology.
Computers and phones are really expensive and looked like the old ones on earth. Most of the things in the shop had some strange parts in them as well.
If only if I learned how to make smartphones and computers on earth. I would've made a fortune here.
After checking out the store, Saliza brought me to the supermarket. The supermarket in this world was also similar to the ones on earth. The difference between them is the products. The products in errale range from chips that probably aren't made from potatoes to a green rocky tentacle that's still wriggling around to vacuum cleaners that look like sci-fi space guns.
"Do you guys wanna buy anything?" Serith was holding a bottle of juice and was heading to the counter to pay.
"Wait, you have money?" Serith gave me a weird look and said "Of course I have money. Why would you think I don't have any money?"
So all this time he had money on him. "Then why have you been eating nothing but curry on rice for the past few weeks instead of buying something else?"
"You two have also eaten nothing but curry on rice so I decided to join in." Are you...why? What is going on in his mind?
"Hold on. You don't have any money?" Before I could respond, Saliza barged in while carrying snacks and drinks. "Both of us don't have any money, the reason for that is personal. By the way, could you pay for these, thanks."
Saliza doesn't have any money? Why doesn't she have any money? Maybe I'll ask her later.
But since Serith does have money, then maybe I could get him to buy me new clothes.
I've been wearing my uniform for weeks and I could use some new clothes.
"Hey Serith, could you buy me some new clothes. Since we're teammates and all, we should help each other out right?" Serith took out his wallet and counted the money he had.
"I can buy you some clothes, but once we get paid I want you to pay me back." Saliza barged in again and also asked for new clothes.
We can get paid for doing this? Well, Reizo said that he's going to train us for three weeks so maybe once we finished training, we'll get paid.
I promised him that I would pay back the money I owe and went to a nearby tailor.
We picked out some cheap clothes and asked Serith to pay for them.
"By the way, where are you guys from?" He asked after we left the tailor. "I'm from errale." I said.
"Specifically where in errale?" He asked.
"Mezio." I replied.
"Specifically where in Mezio?" He asked in an annoyed tone.
Saliza pointed at Serith and made an exaggerated gasp. "Serith! Since when did you become so rude?"
He was confused and even turned around to see if she just so happened was talking to someone else named Serith. "How am I rude?"
"You're trying to pry information from Zeigel and find out where he came from." She shook her head in disappointment. "Don't you know how rude that is?"
Serith was still confused by the accusation. "I don't see how that's rude." He then proceeded on to tell us the exact location of his home to prove his point.
Saliza made an exaggerated shocked expression and signalled me with her hand to do the same. This led to Serith being even more confused and scratching his head. "What? Why are you guys look at me like that?"
Saliza placed her arm around Serith like she was a teacher counseling a student. "Serith, my boy."
"I'm older than you."
"We've only known each other for less than a month. Would you really trust us with information about where you live? For all you know, we could've been incredibly dedicated robbers who became ventgards just to learn where you live. By telling us where you live, you're basically letting us rob you."
Serith was still utterly confused by what he just heard. "Luckily for you, Zeigel and I are both very kind people, especially me, so we'll forget everything you just said and pretend that none of this happened."
Serith was left trying to contemplate everything that just happened. "Nailed it." Saliza reached her hand out to give me a high five. I too was still trying to contemplate what I just heard and ignored her.
We went back to our rooms to try our new clothes. It felt much better now that I'm finally wearing some new clothes.
"I'm gonna go visit my parents and tell them about the things I'm doing as a ventgards. Do you two wanna come? My parents are retired ventgards so you could get some tips from them."
Both of us declined his invitation. After Serith left, I asked Saliza why she doesn't have any money. She made an exaggerated gasp and I immediately told her to shut up.
I don't get why she doesn't have any money and why she doesn't want to tell me about it. Maybe she's a homeless orphan, but she's way too fit and well dressed to be one when I met her.
"Could you tell me what life is like on earth?" Where did that come from? Is she just trying to avoid the question? She might not want to talk about where she's from so I shouldn't try to pry the information from her.
I began talking about what an average life would be like on earth. "Sounds pretty dull. Don't any of you fight monsters or something?" I don't see how mindlessly risking my life to kill bizarre-looking creatures is fun.
"Hold on. If that's what most people do on earth, then why is it that the people from earth who came here before you caused so much trouble in Errale?"
"I don't know. I'm not sure how the portal that brought me here works. Maybe the portal appeared in a prison cell or criminal hideout and brought those low lives to this world."
Come to think of it, my life here wouldn't have been so bad if I was the first one from earth to arrive in this world. I could have gained the trust of the people here and if someone took pity on me, they'll probably even give me a decent paying job. With the things I know, I could have done so much here without fearing for my life. I might even be famous because I'm from another world. Now because of them, I'm forced to fight monsters and make sure that every action I take doesn't end up revealing where I'm from.
I can't do anything about so I might as well deal with it until I figure out a way home.
"Now that I've told you about my world, could you tell me more about your world, or at least the things I shouldn't say here." Saliza thought about it, but couldn't think of what sort of things would come out of my mouth since I'm from earth.
"I don't exactly know what you shouldn't say, but my advice would be to say things that don't seem too out of the ordinary."
That's some good advice. I'll have to keep in mind that I shouldn't talk about comic books and talk more about shooting fireballs at camouflaging beasts.
"Do you wanna continue exploring this town? We still have some time before it gets dark." she asked.
Sure, I needed to know more about this world.
We continued exploring the town, and I found out that there weren't just a few similarities between this world and earth. Nearly everything here is identical. It's like earth but technology is replaced with magic and strange items, and the law enforcement is replaced with RPG characters. Adapting to this world way be much easier than I thought.
The next day, we fought a flaming wolf during our training. I had no idea what the monster is called or what it does since I don't recall reading about it, but It was relatively easy to deal with.
"Oh nice, I leveled up!" Saliza said when her bracelet shined after she landed the killing blow on the monster.
"What's your level now?" Serith asked. Saliza check her stats and looked at her level.
"I'm level 29." She said. "Wait, What! You're level 29?" Serith and I check our levels. Currently, I'm level 25 and Serith is level 28. Saliza currently has the highest level among us.
This was great news, she's one level away from being able to use C rank monsters. If just one of us could summon C rank monsters, then our training would be much easier, at least for this week.
"This is great Saliza! You're one level away from being able to summon C rank monsters." Serith congratulated her.
Saliza looked at her level and tried to summon a doruso. The bracelet told her that she needed to be lv30 to do so.
We had to quickly get her to level up one more time and prepared for the next incoming monster. We looked around and spotted an area on fire. It must be the next monster.
The fire slowly spread throughout the field, turning the plants in the area to ashes within seconds. The pack of the wolf that we just killed has approached us, and they are here to avenge their fallen comrade.
