I was so happy when I hung up from my sister that I almost did a somersault in the front room. I have not been this excited to see my mother since she would visit with goodies when I was in college.
My mother and I decided to meet at this little soul food restaurant located near Shaw University. Mama Moore’s reputation came from its food being healthy without losing the ability to taste like it came from the soul. I knew my mother would love the place because while she was always talking about her cholesterol and eating healthy, she liked her greens and chicken.
When I walked in, I gave my mother a big hug and she gave me one in return, holding me close to her chest.
“You are looking good Yvette. I like what you are doing what your hair.”
“Thank you, I’m letting it dread. Right now Jasmine has been doing the twisting for me when I don’t have a chance or the finances to go to the shop to have it done.”
