章 1: Going to NY

* sound *

- action -

Author POV

Here you are. You're a new collage graduate. You have a Bright future is ahead of you! ...or will have ... shit. You have to go to NY to build experience in your field, right? Naaaah! You're going to NY to try something new! -note the sarcasm- Maybe take a break in life, learn to live a little and hopefully experience some kind of ... excitement.

Seriously?! You want adventure? Sorry. Not allowed. You're an adult now. Gotta fallow the rules or face the consequences. Honestly, this is only the beginning of being flushed down the toilet to adulthood. You may have never wanted to grow up, but thanks to a certain boy we were never invited to be a lost girl! *cough* *cough* I mean you... ... (I'm still waiting!!! PETER!!!!) ... ... Anyway.

You had to learn a bit more of the world, so you got a job in a city you know absolutely nothing about. To learn how to live in the big unknown. Both scary and new. Hopefully that would be an adventure in on itself.

But look at the bright side. You get to live alone, start fresh and gain new experiences, valuable experiences. Ones that will help you later in life. Besides, this is temporary. You're only moving for one year if it doesn't work out you still have a fail safe! And it's not like this is you're first time away from home, you did live on campus for a few years. To be fair it was isolated.

Convenient for some things, a pain in the ass for others. Gotta start some where. And this time you'll be free from the protective cage you're parent put you in. Sure they're releasing you into a ...jungle, a some what contained one, but hey live and learn right?

For the first time you were leaving the nest, your comfort zone, into this unknown massive jungle. This time you didn't have branches around for support, just the cold hard ground and you can only hope for sand or grass if you come crashing down.

And as a Great Man once said, "Shit Happens".

Lucky you!

It's happening right now!

On your way to NY it began raining cats and dogs and a wonderful sprinkle of thunder and lightning on the side. Wonderful. Great. The sky is throwing a grand party and you're stuck. Uninvited. In you're car. Stranded in your wonderful, used car. Sorry honey, you're not rich.

Now. How the Hell did you get stranded? Yeah, well about that....

——Flashback ——

🎶 ... And I would walk 500 miles

          And I would walk 500 more ... 🎶

*POW!*

"Shit! Don't You DARE!"

* tut tut tut *

With what little control was left, you pulled over to the side of the road. Grabbing your umbrella, you got out of your car grumbling a few choice words, trying your best not to get drenched. Fabric seats aren't the best wet. Low and behold! A flat tire.

...

A.

Flat.

Tire.

- Glare - "Are you Fucking kidding me!? I know I said I'd walk 500 miles and all, but...! Shit."

Still grumbling, "My singing can't be That bad."

Tire: ...

"The windows are still fine."

Tire: - rolls eyes -

...💢"...you are so lucky you popped." 💢

—— End Flashback——

... So ... Good or Bad news? Bad okay.

Bad: It's raining cats and dogs out there. Plenty of lightning and thunder and for the icing on the cake, plenty of lightning ro... I mean trees, lots of trees. No signal to call for a tow, not like you wanted to waste your money on it anyway.

Good: You have a portable shelter, your car which is filled with travel snacks, a few drinks, and blankets. You even know how to change a tire, be sure to thank your dad.

Your decision: sleep in the car.

You save valuable money and you'd be wasting time anyway.

You can change the tire after the storm passes. You sure as hell don't want to sit on fabric seats, wet. Stay calm and stay dry, you've got this.

After a long, long drive you deserve a good rest. Driving hours on end takes a lot out of you, so sleep easily came. Besides if worst came to worse, you hoped ... If anything, they, hopefully, would be kind enough to kill you in your sleep.

As you slept, something odd was happening.

You were still aware of your surroundings. Normally, when you slept you were dead to the world, lost in dreams, your only adventures. This time, you could hear the constant downpour and the thunder showing off with gusto.

It didn't really bother you. You liked a good show. Even while sleeping, your surroundings sometimes joined or enhanced your dreams. This time was no different, you assumed.

Lightning was everywhere, the thunder not far behind. Surrounding you, constantly, you felt like you were in the ocean during a tremendous storm. The water tossing and turning you every which way at any unknown time.

Others would freak, but not you. This.... This was Fun! Ridding and teasing the waves as you fought against each other. Maybe you'd die, maybe you'd get hurt, but it was fun and well worth the risk.

You ended up floating on your back, riding these roller coaster waves. You weren't tired at all, sometimes swimming through these dangerous waves. Breathing in the waves was as easy as breathing air. To add to the fun you were doing flips and barrels rolls with your arms open wide, a grin ever growing on your smug little face.

As time passed the oceans storm died down. As it calmed dawn, you ended up floating towards a bright and sunny beach. The beach had a few dark spots but that didn't really matter to you, after all sand is sand. Something wonderful to play with!

You gleefully skip and run on the beach. Playing in the water on occasion and even building a sand castle, a must when you're at the beach. At times it felt like there were others with you, even though you couldn't see them. They felt strangely familiar, even if you've never met them.

You finished the sand castle, even though it was a ruff, messy and very crude lump of sand with a tunnel. Artsy fartsy! It's just for fun.

You started walking away to play with your next project. Only to feel like someone was complaining how it was super crappy. You weren't scared, you scuffed at them instead, rolling your eyes. Then you closed your eyes and turned, playfully sticking out your tongue, "Nuh, uh! It's finished so there!" Adding a pout just for an extra effect.

Only to open your eyes to see a magnificent castle. Your mouth dropped seeing the castles layers of floors, the many doors and tunnels, that mound of mud had practically become a castle fit for the wealthiest of kings. You swear you could see his smirk, others were laughing as they closed your gaping mouth. You looked up to that smug face, squinting your eyes, "Gee, thanks" You cheekily smiled as you playfully punched at them. They rubbed their arm, smiling as they rolled their eyes.

So many fun moments kept piling up, one on top of the other. Eventually, you ended up close to the ocean again, waves constantly pounding the the sand, removing some, placing others, almost like a type of fate. You had a smile on your face as you bent down and started to dig.

Digging deeper and deeper, competing with the never ends waves of the ocean. You dug the hole whole as the ocean filled it in. There was no reason, just fun. It was fun to try, even if you knew in the end you'd never win. That was a fact of life. No mater what you do things will change, some things you can't change, but change nonetheless. You fought desperately against the ocean, making the hole wider and deeper. Fighting with the constant berating of the ocean, in a way you were winning. You could change the beach, as long as you were there, as long as you kept trying. Sometimes the ocean would get the drop on you, adding more and more sand, but if you kept up your hard work you were rewarded, it was satisfying and even fun.

When you were done, you stood inside the hole you made. It was both deep and wide coming past your knees. For the fun of it you sat on the edge of your self made hole. A large smile was plastered on your face.

You sighed in satisfaction, "... I don't ever want to leave."

Then and arm wrapped around your shoulder, pulling you into a warm embrace. It felt so comfortable to be there as you leaned your head on their shoulder. With a genuine smile forever on your face, you closed your eyes.

When you opened them, you realized you were back in your car. You were both satisfied and sad. Satisfied with the dream and sad that it ended, hopefully you'd be able to revisit it again some time.

Taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly, "Hhmmm..." you stretched.

It was too bad you were wide wake. Normally you'd be able to re-enter your dreams or restart them, sometimes both. It was... something you could do. You called it your power, since others claimed they couldn't.

Your dreams were a window to the world of adventure and sometimes they gave you a hint of the future... constant happenings of Dèjá vu, and you assumed you had dreamed them at one point, but... no proof. When you entered a previous dream, any dream you've had in the past really, you'd remember some of it, if not all of it. You could change events and outcomes, just by a simple choice, it's so much fun and it helps to know you can visit some of your favorite moments.

There are drawbacks though, sometimes it takes years to visit them again. You can't always fall right back to sleep like right now, no matter how much you wanted to go back. You couldn't, but in return it gave you a good feeling about your future. You have something to look forward to.

The sun was shining down, greeting you with a gentle 'good morning' causing you to look up and smile.

Staring at the sky, "Thank you" slipped out.

You couldn't help but think the weather helped you have such an awesome dream. It had so much joy and fun incorporated in it. You felt like you had a lifetimes worth.

You got out of your car and quickly changed the flat tire, getting back in to drive towards your new life.

And Nothing going to stop you!

...

...

...

... Just in case ...

- Glance -

You changed the song.

Novel:

Just a mention, there’s no way for me to italicize and bold words here (that I know of) so it may feel flat.

Also the cover might not come up for a while since there cover thing is weird.

I hope more fan fictions will turn up! I love reading them!
