While he was talking with Evelyn about the world travel and the tournament that would come afterward, he heard his phone ringing.
"Huh? Is this Darvin?" Loki raised his brow. "Yeah, who is it?" he asked after accepting the call from an unknown number.
He heard an unfamiliar voice on the other side of the line reply with a question. "Sir, could you please come to the fourth police station?"
"Huh?" Loki was confused, but the next thing he knew, he saw in the direction of his house a massive pillar of light, and away from the city, intense lightning. He dropped the phone
and took off running as fast as he could, trying not to run into anyone or anything. He finally got to where the pillar of light came from. It was his house. Or what was left of it. A police car was parked in front of the building, and he stopped and gasped for breath. Evelyn was right behind him.
"Darv! Jasmine!" Loki shouted. He knew that the person responsible for this phenomenon was Hiro, but he didn't understand why he would do this. Did his power become unstable?! "Hiro?! What happened!"
The policeman tried to stop him, but Evelyn pushed them away with telekinesis. Loki walked into the remains of his house and found Hiro, who covered himself with blankets with tears in his lifeless eyes.
"Hiro?!" Loki called again. But there was no response. So, instead of saying anything else, he picked up the blanket that was covering Hiro's face and removed it. His eyes were red and swollen. "Hiro! Where is Darvin?!"
Hiro was not talking, so Loki took out the phone and dialed Darvin's number. Darvin picked up.
"Yes?" he said with annoyance. "What do you want?"
"Where the fuck are you?!" Loki growled.
"Eh? I am at school." Darvin sounded confused. "Did something happen?"
"Don't come home for now," Loki said and turned off the phone.
"Wait! Why?" Darvin asked, but the phone call was already over. "Hey?!"
Loki looked back at Hiro and realized that Hiro was not in a condition where he could talk. Right before this situation, he had a call asking for him to come to a police station, so that was what he was going to do.
"Look after him," Loki told Evelyn, who nodded and sat beside Hiro.
As much as Loki wished to be by his friend's side right now, there were more important matters, namely, finding out what was going on. He ran as quickly as possible, and in a few minutes, he reached the police station. When he walked in, he said. "My name is Loki; I had a call asking me to come here."
"Thanks for coming. My name is Aaron Hankson. I am the detective." Aaron walked over to Loki and extended his hand for a handshake. However, Loki ignored it.
"What's going on?" Loki inquired.
"Do you know the girl named Jasmine Miller?" Aaron asked and led Loki to the morgue. "She had barely seven numbers in her phone, yours included."
"Yes. I-" Loki felt a cold sweat form at the base of his neck. Was this some kind of prank?
When they arrived at the morgue, Loki immediately understood. Two bodies were lying on the cold metal table. The first one looked like an older woman with gray hair. Her eyes were closed; she wore a black dress and held a bouquet of roses. And the other, a young woman was wearing a bright blue shirt and jeans. Her black hair was cut short, and her expression was calm and serene. There was a stab wound on her neck, with dried blood on it. Next to her lay another body, entirely covered by the sheet. Its eyes were opened, but its mouth was covered. The cause of death was apparent—a murder.
"The girl was attacked on her way to the shopping mall by a high schooler and was stabbed in the neck," Aaron spoke, but at this point, Loki was not listening. He just stared at the dead body of his friend.
This cannot be real.
Jasmine did not deserve to die.
This must be a dream!
A nightmare!
Please!
There was a sharp pain in his heart when he saw his friend like that; he thought he saw someone else's reflection in her eyes.
But this couldn't be.
It could only be a cruel joke.
Right?
Right!?
No.
Loki had a realization that it was his fault. His friend, Sam's sister... Hiro's lover died because of that jerk. She died because Loki and Sam did not kill Jared when they had a chance.
He wanted to be a villain, yet, he acted like a simple edgy high schooler. What a joke. He could have avoided the loss of someone close to him by simply acting like the villain he was supposed to be. He does not deserve this power. "This isn't right..." Loki said aloud, quickly activated the eye of chaos, and started healing the girl.
"What are you doing?" Aaron asked but again was ignored. He tried to pull Loki away. However, he was blown away by the big wind and crashed into the wall. "Argh!"
After finishing healing the girl's wounds, he stood up feeling dizzy,
Aaron followed him and looked at the girl, who started to breathe. He was speechless. "Oh god..." he uttered.
To revive the person, he had to give away that person his power of the eye of chaos... and his life. He knew that despite failing as a villain, the rest would do his will and take over the world in his name. As he revived Jasmine, he imprinted his will into the eye of chaos, so she would know what Loki wished for, and one of those wishes was to keep Julia safe. "I am a fucking joke of a villain..."
He looked up at the ceiling in defeat, unable to take another breath anymore. Soon he heard Jasmine's voice. However, it was somewhere far away, in the distance.
"ROGER?! Jasmine yelled as the tears kept falling on Loki's face.
"So... she decided to call me by my real name in my last moments." Loki thought to himself bitterly. "That's sweet."
Then Loki remembered that he had an obligation to finish healing Jasmine and gave her all of his power in the eye of chaos. It burned him and forced him to kneel on the floor. The burning sensation grew stronger until he felt like exploding, and everything went dark.
When he woke up, wait. Wait? What? Loki woke up?
When he woke up, he was lying on the wheat in the barn, staring at the wooden ceiling. "Where am I?" he mumbled.
Suddenly he heard footsteps approaching him and saw someone holding something over his head.
It was a bucket. A bucket was full of water.
"Uhh, uhm?" he started stuttering. The man threw the bucket at Loki's face and almost choked. "Who are you?!" he yelled.
"Just shut up," the man growled. Then the barn door opened, and someone he did not recognize came in. "And go back to work, you lazy brat!"
