She jolted upright in the chair, as if waking from a bad dream. Cale Ainsworth's studio surrounded her, an unfamiliar and yet comforting sight. The studio's windows showed absolute darkness outside.

"Some memories you've got," the Memory Recoder said. Lysandra glanced over and found him leaning against the wall, next to the window.

"You saw them?" Lysandra asked. Suddenly she felt shaky at the thought of someone else knowing all of her memories. What had she been thinking?

He nodded. "But there are a lot of gaps. Did you forget all of that?"

"Yes," Lysandra answered. "Sixteen years - forgotten. Just like that. I don't know who did it, either."

"That's the point," Cale answered. "You're not supposed to know that a Memory Recoder went to work inside of your head."

"But - " Lysandra began. Zephyr knew, she wanted to say.
