The shocking revelation that Xianwu's mother was still alive left Jia Li perplexed. "Why did she disappear from your house? Did your father have hands behind it?" she inquired. 

"Mother had an affair with someone and she ran away. This is what I heard all the while I grew up. My stepmother used to be my mother's personal attendant. Father cheated on my mother, but he always said it was my mother," Xianwu stated and looked at his fingers. 

A deep silence occupied the room for a while. Jia Li brought her hand to his shoulder to pat it. She didn't ask more questions from him. 

"I don't know why my mother didn't take me with her," Xianwu murmured.
