The battle between Kimi and the girl opposite her had come down to which side could win over the use of their own moves and who could respond to the other better.
Hitmonlee was very fast and strong while being a much higher level than Growlithe so it did have the advantage but Kimi had put Growlithe through many difficult tests while on her journey to Saffron City.
Their connection and the use of Aura had helped to further strengthen their bonds and their response times to their opponents moves.
Growlithe may have been slightly slower and smaller than Hitmonlee but she was able to minimise the amount of unnecessary movements needed to avoid the first kick thanks to the guidance of Kimi.
If there was something that had played a larger role in their victory then it would have been that Kimi had been training Growlithe by focussing on certain areas that suited her best.
Just like any kind of capable police dog, Growlithe needed to be able to hold onto others and to take them down so she had been trained further to improve her biting strength, her claws and her bodies physical condition.
If Growlithe could hold on for a little longer with her teeth and claws then that was a little longer that the opponent would have worn themselves down.
Towards those that could be taken down by her smaller body size, it would be slightly simpler to be able to use her body to tackle them down or to pull them down after biting onto them but it was not the case when used against bigger or heavier opponents that could stand their ground.
Hitmonlee had better balance so it would not be taken down so easily so it became a contest of who would be able to hold on longer in the battle.
If it had been a more experienced and versatile trainer then they may have been able to find a solution earlier to reset the flow of the battle and to let Growlithe release the leg it was hanging onto.
Hitmonlee was not given the needed instructions by its trainer so it did not make the right move until later in the battle but it did help to provide a reversal type of final attack that would turn a loss into a victory.
If the method was discovered earlier then it would be known that using such a method was still very risky when used against Growlithe and betting everything on it would only end with defeat.
If Growlithe had to release the leg at any other time during the battle then she would have to find another chance to perform another bite to a part of the body of Hitmonlee again.
So long as she did not fail to follow the directions of Kimi then it would be a repeat of biting down before releasing once there was any risk to herself.
It was a double victory to Kimi who had stood there quietly while Growlithe came running towards her before pouncing up to her knees. "Growlithe!"
A tough voice had come from nearby after the victory had went to Kimi and Growlithe. "Enough! This match is over. All of you will get back to your training right away!"
A man dressed in white training clothes with a black belt wrapped around his waist had stepped forward on his bare feet along the wooden floor. "I am very disappointed with you, when will you learn? Go rest up and reflect over your mistakes then I will see you later."
The girl had taken back Hitmonlee and walked off with her head down while the man had walked over towards Kimi. "I apologise for my nieces actions and words. She means well and all but she can be a little… sigh. Nice to meet you, I am the Karate Master."
The Karate Master was the master of the whole dojo in Saffron City and was the former Gym Leader until two Gym Leaders became one leaving only Sabrina remaining that was only next door to the dojo.
Kimi did not know a lot about the Karate Master or any of his relations but she had understood the general situation right away.
The girl was related to the Karate Master so there were times where she would be spoiled and would be allowed to act wilfully within the dojo by the others.
Most of her actions or words were her own views that were based on past experiences the dojo had been through so she had taken those things to heart and developed her own way of trying to protect the place that she loved.
Being a family member of the master would earn her certain benefits and rights which allowed her to do as she pleased at times and to reach her current state that allowed her to target others in such a way resulting in her victory most of the time.
Having continued victories had caused her to believe that she was in the right and that she would not lose to others like Kimi so easily especially when she had been given such good Pokémon to raise and had the attention of the Karate master to help guide her own personal training.
Seeing that Kimi was not displaying any big response to his words, he continued. "I have to thank you for teaching her this lesson. My niece has become a little too complacent and arrogant. Hopefully this will help to guide her back on the right path."
Kimi nodded in response and said. "It is no trouble. Though she has still failed to introduce herself even now.."
It was not like Kimi was in a hurry to make friends with someone that had just came at her like that but she still found that it was a little rude of the girl to not even bother to introduce herself.
The Karate Master let out a sigh and patted her shoulder. "I will give her a good scolding for you. So how has your first day been? Do you feel like coming back?"
It felt like he was testing her more than actually being curious about if she had found the dojo suitable for herself so Kimi had answered. "Yes, I will be attending regularly but hopefully next time I can just quietly come and go."
The Karate Master nodded. "Mm.. do not worry, that will not happen again but you should be prepared for some challenges along the way. There are many that like to test their abilities against others they deem strong and you have attracted the attention of a couple of them already."
Kimi replied with a tired tone of voice. "I see.. I guess that it cannot be avoided then."
She thought to herself. 'This is actually not that bad after all. This way I can rise up the ranks to hone my own and Growlithe's abilities while coming here to train my body. Killing two birds with one stone it is.'
The conversation was coming to an end so Kimi was preparing to turn around to lead Growlithe back outside but the Karate Master had stopped her suddenly. "Kid, you have some potential so I will say this to you.
Sign up as a permanent member and promise not to sign up to any other dojo then I will make you a really good offer. How about it? Do you need some time to think about it?"
