I still couldn't shake off the image of Charlotte’s tears and the pain in her eyes when I asked her why she was always merciless.

Her words also kept replaying in my mind. Thinking of our three years together, I remembered that Milla used to humiliate Charlotte. Even Sofia did too. They really treated her like an Omega while she was supposed to be their Luna. Yet Charlotte always complied with all their demands and never complained at all.

And I, as her mate and the Alpha of the pack, didn't do anything to protect my Luna. I even told her once that what Milla said about her being poor was true; thus, there was nothing I could do to defend her.

The thought made my heart feel uncomfortable, and I rubbed my hand over my heart, not knowing how many times I’d done it ever since I had divorced Charlotte.

“You deserve it,” Rhett mocked me. “You deserve to be ignored by her and feel hurt.”
