章 36: UhOh

Gretal came home bringing gifts. She had stopped at a small restaurant and picked up dinner for us. She was too tired to go out and neither one of us had even thought about cooking anything. From the moment she walked in the door with the bags, she gave me a summary of her day. Her excitement would have been evident to Helen Keller.

“It was great catching up with old friends. We hardly went anywhere. Visited the University and had coffee as we debated educational methods and schools. Even other professors got involved. Hearing what other cultures had to say was so interesting. I had forgotten how much I had missed it all.” She paused in unpacking the food. “Well, I guess I didn’t. I’m on this experiment, aren’t I? Oh, how did your trip down under go?”

I turned from the cabinets with plates and glasses in hand. A smile came across my face. No matter what else the day had brought, the catacombs were something never to be forgotten.
