Shu's face grew stern. "Shamsu, don't play games with us," he said, his voice firm with authority. "We know a clone of the Desert God came to this oasis. His incarnation has already confirmed it."
Shamsu's clone could feel the shift in Shu's tone, the heavy air of suspicion pressing in on him. Panic flickered in his mind, he needed to explain himself, and fast.
"The clone didn't come to me!" Shamsu protested, his words tumbling out in haste. "I swear it! But one of his servants, the giant sand bird, was here not long ago. It flew over the oasis a few times, then left without ever approaching me."
Shu's eyes narrowed, his disbelief apparent. "You mean to tell me," he said, voice dripping with skepticism, "that Set's clone never came here, even though his servant was circling the oasis?"
