Ash then noticed Mudkip, as he was next to Haru, as Ash pulled his Pokédex but there was no data.
Haru looked back at Ash. "You ok".
Ash just looked at Mudkip. "Um will, there seemed to be zero data on your Pokémon".
Haru looked at Mudkip as he was confused. "That makes no sense, because you Pokédex should like mine".
Ash just scratched his head and spoke. "Will um it doesn't".
Haru just had a deadpan face. "Not are you bad at fighting with your Pokémon, but you Pokédex is Half Baked"
Ash blinked at Haru's blunt comment, his face flushing slightly with embarrassment. "Hey! My Pokédex works just fine—most of the time!" he protested, holding it up as if to defend its honor. "I don't know why it doesn't have data on your Pokémon!"
Haru let out a sigh and shook his head, glancing down at Mudkip, who tilted its head in confusion at the exchange. "Seriously, Ash, you're like a walking advertisement for missed opportunities. A Pokédex without complete data is like a trainer without strategy—useless."
Misty couldn't help but snicker at Haru's remark, while Brock stepped in to try and mediate. "Okay, let's not start a fight over this. Haru, maybe your Mudkip is from a region that Ash's Pokédex doesn't recognize yet?"
Jessie and James, who were standing a little farther back, were enjoying the show. Jessie leaned over to James and whispered, "It's like watching a comedy routine. Haru's got the perfect deadpan delivery."
James smirked. "And Ash has the perfect clueless comeback."
Meanwhile, Haru crossed his arms, still staring at Ash's Pokédex. "You'd think after traveling so much, you'd have upgraded to a better model by now. But nope, same old clunky tech. Typical."
Ash, now visibly annoyed, snapped back, "Hey! My Pokédex has been with me through everything! It's not clunky—it's reliable!"
Haru raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "Reliable? It doesn't even know what a Mudkip is, Ash."
Sonrisa, trying to lighten the mood, chimed in with a laugh. "Maybe it's a good thing Haru's here to teach you a thing or two about strategy and, uh, technology?"
Ash frowned, clearly not appreciating the piling-on, but he couldn't argue with the fact that Haru had a point. He glanced back at Mudkip, who gave him a cheerful "Mud! Mudkip!" as if to say, No hard feelings.
Finally, Haru rolled his eyes and pulled out his own Pokédex. "Here, let me show you how it's done." He pointed the device at Mudkip, and the Pokédex immediately began to chirp out information in a clear, professional tone:
Mudkip, the Mud Fish Pokémon. It uses the sensitive fin on its head to determine the surrounding water's temperature and flow. Mudkip are known for their strong bond with their trainers and adaptability in battle.
Haru smirked as he closed his Pokédex. "See? That's how a real Pokédex works. Yours is so outdated it probably thinks Pikachu is still a regional novelty."
Ash clenched his fists but didn't have a good comeback this time. Misty and Brock were both laughing now, though Brock tried to hide it by coughing into his hand.
Jessie, unable to resist joining in, spoke up with a sly grin. "Well, Ash, if you ever need help upgrading your tech, maybe you should stick around Haru. He seems to know what he's doing."
James added with a chuckle, "Or, you know, just ask us. We're great with gadgets—when they're not blowing up, of course."
Ash groaned, clearly outnumbered. "Fine! I'll look into upgrading my Pokédex later. But for now, let's just enjoy the festival, alright?"
Haru gave a small shrug. "Sure. Just don't embarrass yourself in front of the Sunflora." With that, he turned and started walking towards the next booth, Mudkip following happily at his side.
Ash sighed and muttered under his breath, "I'm starting to think Haru enjoys giving me a hard time..."
Brock clapped him on the back with a laugh. "Don't take it personally, Ash. He's just... direct."
Misty grinned. "And let's be honest—you kind of walked right into that one."
Haru looked at him. "Now give me your Pokédex".
Ash just looked at him. "Don't break it".
Haru rolled his eyes, as he then pressed two buttons on both Pokédex as then he put them together, as Haru felt a tick mark coming to his head.
Haru looked at him. "Who gave you this Pokédex".
Ash just looked at him. "Professor Oke"
Haru sighed. "Damm that old man, I never liked him".
Ash looked at him confused. "What do you mean".
Haru looked at him as he spoke. "Because 70% of the features are locked because as you are not ready, which Bs forget first had experience I unlocking then for you".
Haru sighed deeply as he fiddled with both Pokédex devices, his patience already running thin. "Seriously, Ash, this thing is practically a toy right now. It's like giving a chef a knife with no blade and telling them to cook."
Ash frowned, still confused. "What are you talking about? Professor Oak said it's one of the best Pokédex models out there!"
Haru glanced up at Ash, his expression deadpan. "Sure, it could be, if 70% of its features weren't locked behind some ridiculous 'trainer maturity' nonsense. Apparently, Oak doesn't think you're ready to handle the full functionality yet."
Misty couldn't help but laugh. "Sounds like he knows Ash too well."
"Hey!" Ash snapped, glaring at Misty before turning back to Haru. "So, can you fix it?"
Haru smirked. "Fix it? More like unleash it. Give me a second." He pressed a combination of buttons on the Pokédexes, their screens flickering as a series of system messages popped up. "Alright, I'm overriding Oak's 'parental controls.'"
Ash blinked. "Parental controls?!"
Haru snorted. "Yeah, apparently, Oak thinks you need training wheels for everything. Typical." A few more button presses later, and the Pokédex let out a soft chime, its screen lighting up with new options. Haru handed it back to Ash. "There. You're welcome."
Ash stared at the now-unlocked Pokédex, scrolling through features he hadn't seen before. "Whoa! What did you do?"
"I activated everything Oak didn't trust you with," Haru said with a shrug. "You've got access to advanced Pokémon data, enhanced tracking features, region-specific encyclopedias, and a battle analysis system. You're basically using it at full power now."
Brock leaned in, intrigued. "Battle analysis system? That sounds useful."
"Of course it is," Haru said, crossing his arms. "If Ash actually learns how to use it, he might stop running headfirst into battles with zero strategy."
Ash pouted. "I don't always do that..."
Misty raised an eyebrow. "Name one time you didn't."
Ash opened his mouth, then paused, trying to think of an example. Haru smirked. "Exactly."
Jessie and James, who had been eavesdropping from a distance, exchanged amused glances. "I'm starting to like this Haru guy," Jessie whispered.
"Definitely has a way with words," James agreed, nodding.
Ash, now slightly flustered, decided to change the subject. "Alright, fine! Thanks for unlocking it, I guess. But how do you even know how to do stuff like this?"
Haru's smirk faded slightly, and he glanced away. "Let's just say I've had experience dealing with people who like to 'restrict' information. Besides, this isn't my first run-in with Oak's... peculiar teaching methods."
Ash tilted his head. "What do you mean by that?"
"Doesn't matter," Haru said quickly, standing up. "The point is, your Pokédex is actually useful now. So don't waste it."
Ash nodded slowly, still curious about Haru's mysterious past but deciding not to press further. "Alright, thanks, Haru."
"Don't mention it," Haru replied, walking toward the Sunflora Festival stalls. "Literally. Don't mention it to Oak, or he'll lock it again."
As Haru disappeared into the crowd, Ash looked at Brock and Misty. "He's kind of weird, isn't he?"
Misty smirked. "Weird, but useful. You could learn a thing or two from him."
Ash groaned. "Great, another person telling me what to do..."
After that the Sunflora competition happend, as Sonrisa won the competition and won a life time supply of instant noodles, as Haru just Blinked.
Haru just looked at Jessie and James. "That is it, Instant noodles, they chick then Pokeball, I expect and a evolution stone like a Sun Stone".
Haru stood there, staring at the prize table as Sonrisa cheered, clutching her lifetime supply of instant noodles like she'd just won the Pokémon League.
"Instant noodles," Haru repeated, deadpan. "That's the grand prize? For an entire Sunflora competition? No evolutionary stone, no rare Poké Ball, not even a decent technical machine? Just... noodles?"
Jessie and James, now dressed as Ace Trainers and blending in surprisingly well, exchanged amused glances.
"I mean," Jessie started, "if you think about it, instant noodles are a pretty solid prize. Quick, easy to make, and lasts forever."
James nodded enthusiastically. "Quite practical! And it's probably cheaper than real food when we're—uh, I mean trainers are—on the road!"
Haru gave them both a withering glare. "Right, because trainers out here are dreaming of competing just to win a lifetime supply of... ramen. Next time, why not throw in a pack of disposable forks for the full experience?"
Sonrisa, oblivious to Haru's sarcastic tone, turned toward the group with a big smile. "I'm so happy! Sunflora and I worked so hard for this!"
Misty tried to hide her laughter as Brock chuckled beside her. "Come on, Haru," Brock said. "It's a nice prize for someone who loves Sunflora like Sonrisa does. Plus, it's practical for her!"
Haru pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head. "I'm not saying she doesn't deserve something, but you'd think they'd at least throw in a Sun Stone or a custom Poké Ball. Something actually useful."
Ash grinned, holding up his Pokédex. "Hey, maybe they'll add better prizes next year, now that Haru's got his perfect Pokédex unlocked. You can complain to the organizers then!"
"Funny, Ash," Haru said flatly. "But if this is what passes as a major event prize around here, I'm not exactly holding my breath for the Bugsy gym rewards."
Jessie leaned closer to Haru, smirking. "So, what would you have given out as the prize, oh wise one?"
Haru crossed his arms. "A Sun Stone, a rare berry collection, or at the very least, a customized Sunflora-themed Poké Ball. You know, actual incentives for trainers who care about growing stronger, not just... filling their backpacks with noodles."
James scratched his chin thoughtfully. "You know, Haru, you might actually have a point. This competition does feel a bit underwhelming for something so festive."
Sonrisa approached the group with her Sunflora, still beaming. "I think it's perfect! Instant noodles are a great way to keep trainers energized during their journeys."
Haru forced a polite smile. "Well, as long as you're happy, that's what matters."
As the festival began winding down, Haru turned back to Jessie and James. "Alright, you two, enough sightseeing. Let's get moving. I've wasted enough time here."
Jessie adjusted her Ace Trainer outfit dramatically. "Lead the way, boss!"
James followed, carrying a small bag of noodles Sonrisa had given them as a thank-you. "At least we got a little something out of this!"
Haru shook his head, muttering under his breath. "Next town better not have a competition for 'lifetime supply of soda' or something."
Brock them stopped them. "Hey wanna join us for dinner".
Haru stopped and looked at them. "Will this is an adventure not marathon".
The night came and Haru had to say if Brock was back on his past life, Haru would have definitely made him as his personal chef, as his Pokémon was eating Haru finished as he saw Ash Heracross.
Haru looked at the Heracross and scratched his head. "A Heracross huh".
Ash looked at him. "Is something wrong".
Haru looked at him. "No just remind me of my bug type".
Misty then looked at him. "That reminds me, didn't you say this your second time on a journey, what is the deal with that".
Haru sigehd as he spoke. "Let say, for the last 6 years I haven't been a Pokémon trainer, I restarted".
Ash looked at him. "Why don't you use your old Pokémon".
Haru looked at him and spoke. "I don't want to talk about it".
The group fell into an awkward silence after Haru's statement. Misty opened her mouth to press further but stopped herself when she saw the serious look in Haru's eyes. Brock, always the peacemaker, quickly shifted the topic.
"Well, restarting or not, you seem like a capable trainer," Brock said with a warm smile. "Your Elekid was impressive earlier today. Plus, you've got a Mudkip, and those are a solid choice for any trainer."
Haru glanced at Brock and gave a faint nod. "Thanks, I guess."
Ash, still curious but sensing Haru's reluctance, decided to drop the subject for now. Instead, he pointed at Heracross, who was happily munching on a nearby tree's sap. "Heracross is pretty strong, you know! It's helped me in a lot of battles."
Haru raised an eyebrow, watching Heracross. "It's a decent Pokémon, for sure. Strong bug type. But strength alone doesn't make a good trainer or team. You've got to know how to bring out its potential."
Ash grinned. "Of course! I've been training with Heracross for a while now, so we've got a good bond."
Haru crossed his arms, his expression skeptical but not harsh. "A bond is important, but strategy matters just as much. From what I've seen, you rely on improvisation a lot. That works sometimes, but it's not enough in the long run."
Misty chuckled, half-teasing. "Sounds like you've got a lot of opinions on how Ash trains, Haru. Do you always have to be so blunt?"
Haru shrugged. "Blunt or not, the truth doesn't change. He's got talent, sure, but talent without refinement is wasted potential."
Ash looked a bit deflated but quickly perked up. "Then I'll prove you wrong! Just wait—Heracross and I will show you what we've got in our next battle."
Haru smirked faintly. "We'll see. Just don't make the same mistakes you did with Falkner."
The group laughed lightly, breaking the tension as they finished their meals. Haru, still lost in thought, watched as his Pokémon relaxed and played nearby. The sight reminded him of his old team—the ones he left behind.
"Rebuilding," he murmured to himself, his tone carrying a mix of resolve and melancholy. "One step at a time."
As the stars filled the night sky, the group began to settle in for the evening. Brock prepared the campsite, Misty organized the supplies, and Ash kept Heracross entertained. Haru leaned back against a tree, staring at the sky, his mind drifting to the past life he rarely spoke of.
Tomorrow was another day, another battle, and another step on his journey to reclaim what he had lost—and to prove to himself that he still belonged in this world of trainers.
