章 12: Chapter 12 - The festival(5)
I smile as I spin the woman in my arms. It's been a while since I've seen her. When we finally stop spinning we stay in each other's arms for a few seconds before separating. This would have made a great story about a soldier returning home after the war under different circumstances.
"Elena! It's been so damn long!" We both laugh a bit, it has been a while since we saw each other.
"Someone didn't wanna visit."
"I was busy." I was... not with work though.
"Yeah, right. Where's Kate?"
"She's back at the Academy"
"For real?" I nod. "Thank Inari. I hate that bitch." It seems like no one liked her. Love is truly blind if I didn't notice every single person who doesn't like her.
"I'm starting to notice."
"Hmm, you usually get defensive?" I wonder if that's why so many people stopped talking to me.
"We're going through a rough patch." Oversimplification but not wrong.
"Ah, I can be her substitute for the night." She locks our arms and starts walking. "Let's enjoy the festival."
"That's not gonna happen but I appreciate the company."
"Ugh, you're so stiff! Not even in the good way!"
We walk around the festival eating and a few stalls that look interesting, playing games at others and buying random shit we'll probably never use. We meet up with Mom and Liam at some point during the festival. Liam has his 'situationship' with him and Mom is walking around with Uncle John. We all walk together for a few minutes before going our separate ways again, we were not going to spend the entire festival together. We split three ways.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't Mr I'll make your daughter fall in love with me?" Ugh, I know that voice. I can feel Elena next to me clenching her hands.

The fuck is a 'New york!'
"Amber. Keith. Daniel." What was I saying, Ah, right, I know why the asshole wasn't in the house now. Looks like he's happy being her bitch.
"Hah! What'd you call me?" Ugh, the cringe, she's even craning her neck trying to look intimidating.
"Are you forgetting your name in your old age?" My voice is cold, colder than usual.
[New skill learned. Emotionless]
Well, that came in handy. Is it that easy to get skills?
"You wanna die kid? Remember who you're talking to. You need my permission to marry my daughter!" She laughs as if she's already won this argument. I want to say I don't care but... she's pissing me off and I can tell Elena is about to lunge at her. I'm about a second away from doing the same.
"Oh, that shouldn't be hard if it's you," I say cryptically.
"Huh!? You wanna say something?"
"Not at all. I'm just saying if getting your permission is as easy as spreading your legs then I don't need either of them."

The people around me stop and stare. I can see a few people turn around and try not to laugh. They fail epically. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty proud of that insult. I did not think I had it in me to be that cruel. I love it!
"You!! You!" Her face is red. She runs forward and tries to punch me. I simply sidestep and guide Elena with me. Why did she even try that? She should know I've trained for years even if I didn't awaken... to her knowledge.
I'm sure Daniel already told her about my awakening so it makes no sense for her to try and hurt me unless... she thinks I'm going to let her hit me because I'm in love with Kate... was in love with Kate.
"Um, as much as I appreciate the attention I don't eat the crust."
"The fuck does that mean?" Someone from the crowd asks. have I always been this cruel and good at insulting people?
"You know the crust in bread. The one everyone touches but no one wants it." No one laughs. Their faces pale. Shit. I know who's here. Dammit, it might have been worth it but it's not funny if I have to explain a joke!!
"Seth." Her voice is sweet but I know I'm in trouble.
"Hey M-Mom."
"Can you repeat what you just said?"
"I'd rather not"
"Oh? I wonder why?" She looks down at Amber and snorts. "C'mon, you can invite Elena to stay over."
"A-Alright."
"Oi! Bitch!" Amber yells at Mom and points to her. She should not have done that. "Teach your brat some manners. Even if he doesn't have a father, he should act like a man and take a punch"
I, along with Elena and the crowd turn away from them. We don't want to be witnesses.
"Amber darling. It doesn't matter if they don't have a father, he never taught them anything. I did teach them not to hit women. You wanna know something?"
"What?"
"I don't follow that rule."
All we hear is a cracking sound before something hits the ground.
"Your mom is scary" Elena whispers in my ear. Her breath on my neck should not do the things it's doing.

"You staying over?" The crowd starts walking ignoring the blood on the floor and the screaming woman on the ground.
"Hmm, sure, why not? I've got nothing going on." Elena is an orphan. She has a curfew but it's optional. She may seem like the bubbly and happy type but she's hiding a lot of baggage. That baggage is mostly anger and sadness. She forces herself to appear happy. "You're breaking up with Kate right?"
"Yeah. Probably when I get back to the academy." Why'd I say probably? There's no way I'm not breaking up with her... ah, I confused myself.
"Hmm." We stay at the festival for two more hours before walking to the house. After watching a few movies and going to bed. I set up one of the guestrooms for Elena to sleep in. There's no way we can sleep together now... wait, I didn't mean it like that.
Ugh, never mind. Nothing I say is going to help. I didn't even know we had guestrooms. Ah, Mom's gonna have to sell this house. It hasn't been long since I entered the academy. What a shame to lose a house I never knew we had until a week ago. Since she and Daniel are getting a divorce she won't be able to afford it anymore.
I change into my sleeping clothes after I have a shower. No one needs to know my sleeping clothes are just boxers... yep, that's it.
I'm on the verge of falling asleep when I hear the door opening. I reach for the dagger under my pillow before relaxing when a voice calls out to me.
"It's me!" It's Elena. I relax myself before questioning her actions. I would of argued sleepwalking if she didn't speak.
"What are you doing here?" She does not answer me and simply slides under the covers, my covers. Thanks to my awakening and level-ups I have more visibility in the darkness. I can see the blush on her face. Hmm, it goes with her black hair.
"W-What do you mean?" Is she imitating an anime character? This is the Tsundere act obviously. Is this also considered the gap moe? Is that what's it called? Dammit, I forget.
"Elena, we're not in an ecchi anime. Adults don't sleep with each other... I mean they do but, ugh, you know what I mean." I fucked that up again.
"I'm not an adult yet." She's been steadily moving closer toward me since she got into the bed.
"We're both one year off. Now what are you doing? I'm still taken."
"You're going to break up."
"We're still together."
"She cheated on you." Wow, she hits where it hurts. I know I keep saying I'm over it but... I have no idea. I don't know how I feel about it. I think I'll only know when I see Kate again.
"I'm not going to cheat on her." Because cheaters are attention whores and don't deserve love. I mean, if you have a legit reason then maybe I can forgive you but even then, cheating breaks trust and it'll never be the same after that.
"... Sigh. I don't want to wait."
"Wait for what?" I know exactly what she wants and I'm not sure. I just got out of a relationship. Am I mentally sane enough to start a relationship with her? What if I become one of those emotionally unavailable people and she has to live with that because she's crushing on me? What if I end up like Kate and lose my mind?!
"Nothing. Just let me stay here for tonight."

I don't say anything. What can I even say? She wants to sleep here I'm not going to stop her.
