"What child?"
I scoffed, my aloof nature somehow managed to get into Paul as his brows started creasing.
He started tapping his fingers on his thigh as we were standing, currently facing each other.
"I really can't tell you much but… "
He slightly swiped his hand and the next thing I knew I was flying towards the empty alleyway. There was no reaction from the crowd.
"agh—"
I rolled and tumbled as the momentum forced on me felt like I was tugged by a troll.
"Damn…"
—tak tak tak.
"There are a few people in the world sensitive to the tiniest mana fluctuations and one of them is you, you're not a bad subject for the tower of magic."
I slowly got up and then an unbearable wave of force was stacked on me, but this isn't enough as I practice at 4G's the most.
"Oh? Can you take that?"
I looked at him as I slowly raised my head. There was no reaction from the crowd at all. It's possible illusion magic, that alone told me that I can't win against this man.
Illusion magic, the same as conjuring wind primus requires good mana control. And right now this man is simultaneously casting illusion magic and putting some gravitational spell on me.
"Oh, you never cease to amaze me. And we've only met twice, you almost made me think you're mere pathetic life was more worth it than the child"
"Have… you heard…?"
I said while bearing the force on my back, looking at him trembling as I tried to balance myself up.
"hm?"
"You… Talk too much"
—Bang!
[Quickdraw]
In a single second I pulled my pistol off my Arsenal and shot Paul, I saw the bullet bounce off as a barrier stopped the incoming projectile.
"That scared me!"
He held out his hand in my direction and swiped left, I then got thrown on the wall of a building.
"Agh—"
"My kids these days tend to have less temper—hm?"
—Bang!
Multiple flashbangs exploded and covered his vision painting it white, all the while I already escaped and ran as fast as I could just to get away from that alley.
But then when I was about to cross the street I went back to the same place as I was running away from.
"tsk… " I clicked at my tongue as I looked back "Illusion magic"
I saw Paul smiling with a smile that arcs from ear to ear. I couldn't help but grit my teeth.
As I was going to another damn trouble.
As I was about to shoot the whole place shook, and Paul suddenly looked up, he had an annoyed look on his face.
"Oh dear, I was noticed," he said with a click of a tongue. Looking at me he smiled with a bit of disappointment "it's quite a shame we couldn't cherish this moment more together but I have to leave"
I want to kill this man, no—I need to kill him if ever he told the magic tower about my constitution and Milly was practically walking targets.
I cannot allow that, but as I was pulling out my railgun Paul suddenly spurted out blood from his mouth.
"H-how…?"
I didn't understand what was happening till one of the Black ops members appeared behind Paul, his suit was garnering blood from inside.
He fell forward and that's when I noticed it, a wound from his back, or a hole precisely and the black ops member's hand was bloody.
He just used his fingers to pierce Paul's back, there's a problem though. I didn't know if he was part of my team or not until he called out to me.
"Sir Damian, It's Cero."
"Ah."
Honestly, I wouldn't have known, Cero is tall but he tends to match the other's height by bending his head downwards. And his deep black coat that eats sunlight doesn't help identify either.
"Well then"
I aimed my gun at the laying down Paul and shot him in the head, twice, I've learned multiple times to make sure your enemy is dead. That's why I always aim for the head you see.
"Cero… I am glad you're here, please make that body disappear"
"As you wish."
As Cero grabbed the body of the dead Paul, I felt something was wrong. No, it's not Cero's animosity towards Paul, nor why Paul is easily killed, it's that my mind suddenly felt…. Heavy?
I suddenly started groaning while being out of balance. With that, I went straight to the main street and sat down where the crowd could see me.
"Hello… child~"
My eyes widened as I was drastically pulled out of my consciousness and into my subconscious world.
I don't know what happened. But I'm in a place with a sky and... What I'm standing on is a clear blue, vast ocean that doesn't have any ripples.
"Hello~"
What stood on the opposite side of me is Paul. How is he doing this?
"Your soul is Strange… feels like... Being forcefully calmed."
"..."
"Well that didn't matter"
Paul held his hand out and the aura that was emanating from his body was menacing. I couldn't help but subconsciously step back.
"For I will take control of your body"
I felt an immense pressure on my body, it was not just weight, I felt like I was being crushed as if my heart was being torn apart from my chest.
"Argh!"
I squirmed in pain, Paul looked delighted at the sight. He seems to anticipate his new body like it was already set in stone.
"Oh Damian, you were a fine specimen—"
[Maximum Stress detected, warning 19/20. do not exceed the amount anymore. Taking the stress out at the cost of vigor]
"Uwack—!"
The weight suddenly was lifted, what was on display before me was Paul being crushed, his chest had a hole in it which was his flesh was swirling around seemingly eating his entirety.
"W-what are you!"
I stood up properly to regain my posture. Paul's eyes suddenly widened.
"My power is an authority given by gods! Y-you're—"
But before he could finish his sentence he was eaten whole by what was dug on his flesh.
"Ha… ha… "
I was extremely exhausted by this exchange. And what does he mean by Gods?
I passed out as I cannot maintain my consciousness.
***
"My god!"
Cero laid Damian's body, Damian was laced with green veins all over his body, this is what happens when someone makes a contract with a Zenite, a proof of being turned into a Zenith.
"Why did this happen?" asked Anna, who was extremely worried.
"He suddenly passed out. After I took care of his aggressor"
"what… "
"I'm sorry, Ma'am Anna, this is because of my incompetence"
"Shut it for a moment cero, if you didn't know what happened no one will"
Anna gritted her teeth and placed a finger on her temple. She tried to rack her brain so hard that there was steam coming out of her head.
"Fuck!"
Anna stood and with heavy stomps went to a cabinet and activated a hidden compartment. What was inside were three rings, one colored copper, One colored silver, and one colored black.
Anna took the black one, it was dimensional storage. She took out a blue-purple-colored bottle and opened the cap.
Cero sat Damian up and lifted his chin, Anna nodded to convey her thanks and then poured the contents of the bottle down Damian's throat.
"Gulp—"
Damian's eyes are partially open, he is trying his best to drink the bottle.
"Damian…"
After he finished it he let out a sigh. Looking weakly at the two, he spoke a few words.
"I might go into another coma. Cero divide your available subordinates and protect both Anna and Sophia."
He spoke to them clearly, before passing out. Anna with cold sweat on his forehead looked at Cero.
"Go ahead and tell miss Sophia about this"
Cero nodded and disappeared into his shadow, Anna, on the other hand, went to call the Mayor, but knowing how busy he was, she instead sent a message.
"Ha… this is not good… "
***
I have no idea how long I was passed out, there was no pain and there were no other senses I could feel.
"...."
"●□●◇△■◇△□●●?"
All of a sudden I heard some illegible sounds. I couldn't understand it, the language feels so foreign.
"●□●◇…"
I could feel the emotions in the voices though. My eyelids started to twitch. For some reason, it feels like I'm being pulled out underwater.
"△□●●…!"
When it felt like I'd risen to the surface of the water I heard someone shout at me with their voices full of despair.
"Damian!"
My eyes shot wide open as my eyes darted all around, I was in a room. But it was all too familiar.
The heartbeat monitor, the white room, and the specific bed. I'm in a hospital room. I went into another coma again, didn't I?
I sighed and looked at the wall behind me, I reached for the 'call a nurse' button, and minutes later a nurse did come to my room.
Apparently it's a VIP room provided by Anna. What can I say, that's the fruit of my labours after making a good company and a product.
I was snapped back to reality as Anna came to me.
"Damian!"
"I feel a sense of Deja vu"
"Duh! Thankfully your coma lasted for 3 days"
Three days. So it's probably the weekends.
"I need to go back to the Academy"
"Uhm… the magic tower has set their eyes on you…"
".... Fuck"
I could only swear, having eyes of some ducked up organisation is not something I would welcome with open arms even if I become insane.
I then looked at Anna and tried thinking of possible plans but I just couldn't formulate one. I sighed inwardly, my scope of things getting out of hand.
"Anna, what happened to me before I pass out"
"... You've shown signs of a mana pact to zenites."
"Ah… "
I put my hand on my chest and looked downwards, there were some green veins in there. Was Paul contracted to one? And wasn't OS's perk only at 17/20? Why is it now 19/20?
Is it because of the mana pact? I could only grit my teeth to my annoyance. Mana pact could be forced by submission, unlike mana contract in which both parties agreed.
There is no way to get out of a mana pact unless a contradicting mana contract chimes in, and the mana contract should be stronger than the pact.
But I don't remember having any mana contract strong enough other than Anna, Sophia, and Cero's whole group who are contracted to me.
And then I remembered. Operating system. I got this skill back then, every time I'm stressed relating to a specific emotion it suppresses it. When I had it my memories became foggy, foggier until only mist could be seen from my previous memories.
My previous memories are special. They're my Trump card, the only times I've used them is when I was trying to disrupt Nexus's future.
I can't even use it for myself. It inwardly sighed, the Blue pill Co. And the Red pill Inc. These are two things I used to make a background.
A strong one so when I got to Imperium it would be a smooth sail as I go up the ranks and do my things, be in the military, save lives.
Now I'm getting more and more frustrated by the number of times I have missed things because I kept getting into a coma.
"ha… if it keeps going like this I'm wasting more time."
"On…?"
Anna asked
"Everything, I built this company for reasons you know?"
"Sure thing you did, Rest and get up later alright?"
"... How's Milly?"
"... She's fine, but according to the Informant you're getting more attention than her."
"Hah… that's better I guess"
Anna stroked my hair and I looked at her, she truly looks like a mother.
"Take care of yourself more, okay? You barely a quarter of a humans life expectancy"
"... True"
I can't deny that, but it's not like I chose to be in the middle of violence, everything I do right now is self defence.
"Okay I'm going"
"See you"
Anna waved her hand and left me to recuperate in the room. The hospital is a place that's somehow familiar to me, I don't like this familiarity.
I sighed inwardly.
