Wang Jingyuan observed his expression. "Little General Yan does not enjoy the Capital?"

"I do, generally, but it can get…boring." Yan Qiufeng picked up a pebble from the ground and turned it over and over in his hand. "There is not much to do here. I am used to the daily military duties when we were stationed at the frontier. It's not like I can train the army or go on patrols here."

"That makes sense." Wang Jingyuan nodded. "This may be a nosy question, but do you find the Capital restricting, in terms of your freedom?"

Yan Qiufeng paused. He looked down at the pebble in his hand. "Yes," he finally said quietly. "It can get suffocating here."
