After Trebol finished his call, he pocketed his Phone Bug and stepped into the bustling commercial street, searching for a hotel.
Unbeknownst to him, someone had meticulously gathered information about his activities and reported it to Saint Lakeman through Stussy.
"Trebol from the Donquixote family?" Saint Lakeman mused thoughtfully as he reviewed the report. He recalled Doflamingo, a notorious collector of Devil Fruits. In the original timeline, Doflamingo had mastered the technology of artificial Devil Fruits known as SMILE and secretly sold them to Kaido to help build the Beasts Legion.
"I should be able to trade Devil Fruits with him," Lakeman said thoughtfully.
"It could be crucial for establishing my own force to fight the Marines and World Government when necessary. Without Devil Fruits, it's hard to build a powerful force and produce top-tier combatants. Not everyone is as exceptional as Roger and Garp. Most people need the power of Devil Fruits to reach the top positions on the sea."
Lakeman knew he could take Devil Fruits from the World Government, but the five elders might not give him any significant ones, only a few unimportant ones.
"Pay attention to this Trebol. When he comes, let me know as soon as possible," Lakeman ordered.
Meanwhile, Doflamingo had also dispatched his men to gather relevant intelligence. His established network quickly provided key information.
"Did the World Government take action and directly clean up the auction's management and the royal family behind it?" Doflamingo looked at the information in surprise. The members of the Donquixote family were equally astonished.
"They're targeting the Celestial Dragons? That's bold. No wonder the World Government intervened directly. The new owner is Saint Lakeman of the Ethanbaron V family. Our business might be in trouble."
"Yeah, dealing with Celestial Dragons is never easy. Originally, it was a great opportunity for us to expand our business to the Grand Line and leave North Blue. It might get delayed now."
The family members frowned, knowing the typical behavior of the Celestial Dragons, who were mostly concerned with indulgence, with a few elites secretly cultivated somewhere.
"Don't worry," Doflamingo laughed.
"Young Master?" The others looked at him blankly.
"Although the owner has changed, the person running the day-to-day operations is the World Government, and we are still involved," Doflamingo said with a smile.
"But we are doing illegal business. The World Government won't cooperate with us, right?"
"Yes, young master, how can we set up Donquixote's underground auction in Sabaody?"
Doflamingo smiled confidently. "You don't understand. The so-called change of owner means that this Lakeman Saint was cheated by the auction, and the World Government cleaned it up, then gave the auction to him as compensation. In other words, this guy is the owner. We just need to use 'fair competition' to win over the auction."
The members' eyes lit up. A ten-year-old tricked by an auction couldn't stand up to them. Even with the World Government's help, it was impossible for him to maintain operations for long. The Donquixote family could undermine the World Government and steal the auction through normal competition, making it easier than before.
"How can a child who is only ten years old and was tricked by an auction stand up to us?" Doflamingo said with a smile. The members laughed, understanding that their young master, although no longer a Celestial Dragon, still retained the blood of the Celestial Dragons. This made it easier for them to grab the auction.
"Leave it to me, Doflamingo, to take care of it. Fufufu!" Doflamingo said, and the members went into a frenzy.
After the meeting, Doflamingo dialed Trebol's phone and gave the order to continue the transaction.
Sabaody Archipelago
The next day, Trebol, dressed in a neat suit, left the hotel carrying a box and walked into the auction house.
"Are you planning to sell those two Devil Fruits?" the receptionist asked indifferently.
"Hmph, treat your guests better!" Trebol snorted, placing the box on the table and opening it to reveal two strange-looking fruits.
"Zoan: Beetle Fruit, Zoan: Moth Fruit. The starting price is 80 million Beli, and each increase in price cannot be less than 1 million Beli. The auction time is next month," the employee recorded.
"Hey, Devil Fruits are secret treasures of the sea. They cost at least 100 million Beli," Trebol said, dissatisfied.
"That's the final transaction price. Both of your fruits are Zoan and not very valuable ones. The starting price is 80 million Beli, which is already generous considering your Donquixote family," the employee said calmly.
Trebol was pleased despite his outward dissatisfaction. The staff's estimates were accurate, aligning with Doflamingo's explanation. 'Young Master's judgment is correct. The auction is managed by the World Government. Saint Lakeman is only the nominal owner.'
Trebol thought excitedly that when Lakeman grew tired of playing in the Sabaody Archipelago and left, the Donquixote family could take action and establish their underground auction without resorting to murder or framing, just normal business competition.
Backstage at the auction, Stussy received a report that Trebol had arrived and immediately called Lakeman.
Celestial Dragons' Hotel
Lakeman picked up the phone. "What's up, Stussy?"
"Master, Trebol is here," Stussy said.
"Oh?" Lakeman's eyes lit up. "Keep him there, I'll be there soon," he said, hanging up and leaving the room with an escort and servants.
Shortly after he left, Hancock walked out of the bathroom wearing a bath towel. "Um?" She looked around, puzzled.
Lakeman was supposed to be there, but he was nowhere to be seen.
"You just asked me to change into a witch costume after washing, but why can't I see anyone?" Hancock muttered, annoyed. 'If I had known he wouldn't come, I would have continued practicing.'
Auction House
The transaction went smoothly, with Trebol receiving a voucher and ticket for a second-level box for the auction next month.
'The transaction went surprisingly smoothly,' he thought.
'As expected of World Government professionals, their work efficiency is very high. This just shows that Lakeman Saint did not interfere in the operation of the auction, otherwise, how could it be so efficient?' Trebol sneered secretly, believing that Celestial Dragons were notoriously ignorant.
