章 6: Leo's Death?
Leo firmed himself inwardly. "God, please send me to the deepest depths of hell for what I am about to do."
He looked around, pirates were looking at him with sadistic amusement, waiting for what he was going to do next. He was only the object of entertainment for them. He ignored them and looked at Nejiko, whose eyes were filled with endless worry. Those eyes made him hesitant for a moment, but then he firmed himself. "I can do this. No, I must do this. Mother, don't ever forgive me for this."
He drew a deep breath, and then his expression slowly turned to that of hate and disgust. He suddenly pushed down Nejiko, who was sitting on Dirk's lap. "You bitch, this is all your fault, only if I had gone to the safe house by myself, I wouldn't be in this situation. Everything is your fault, I hated every moment of my life I spent with you. Because I had no choice, I could only live with you, or else I would have left you long ago. You disgust me." He finished everything in a single breath and then spat on the floor.
Nejiko was shocked, she couldn't understand what Leo was saying. Pirates were also shocked at the sudden change in Leo. Dirk didn't stop Leo, he let him be, whatever he was doing. "It seems I really broke him."
"What a twist?!! Brat you are pretty good at entertaining us, keep up." Crook said while laughing.
Leo smirked inwardly. "Ohh.. You are also pretty good. I never thought you would support me like this. Now this will seem even more natural." Anyway, after Nejiko, he was going to target Crook, but now this gave him a solid reason to target.
Leo angrily hissed at him. "Shut your trap baldy. You ugly bastard, how dare you hit me?"
Pirates didn't take Leo's outburst seriously. Dirk looked at Crook while laughing. "He called you ugly and baldy. Hahaha….." He couldn't stop laughing.
Crook's features were really bad, even ugly was an understatement. His face and head were burnt during the fire incident. Ugly and Baldy words were taboo for him, even though Dirk was laughing at him, he couldn't do anything, as he was stronger than him. Although others weren't laughing, he could see they were trying hard to stifle their laughter. "Brat, you are dead." He was enraged.
Now everyone's attention was on Crook. Finally, Leo arrived at the crucial step. He was waiting for the moment when Dirk would get distracted. "Now this is my chance." Leo who was standing close to Dirk pulled out a knife and stabbed it in his eye. He hid this kitchen knife on him when he went into the kitchen with Nejiko.
The only ones whose attention was on Leo were Crook and Nejiko. When crook saw Leo pulling out a knife, he tried to warn Dirk, "Boss, watch out!!" But it was already too late.
At the last moment, Dirk tried to avoid it, but Leo was too close, he couldn't stop the knife from finding its way into his right eye. "Aaaahhhhhh..." He screamed in pain.
"Bosssss….." All the pirates were shocked, they quickly ran to him. Nobody imagined this, how could they? Even they weren't courageous enough to take a shot at their captain.
The wound wasn't too deep, but his eye was ruined, blood was gushing from it. Leo knew with his strength and not so sharp kitchen knife, it was impossible to kill anyone, and he also didn't want to kill him, that wasn't beneficial, he just wanted to give him a serious injury, so that all the attention of Dirk would be drawn to him, and so he would throw Nejiko on back of his mind. Earlier he took the knife from the kitchen, just to feel more secure, but he didn't expect it to become so crucial.
"Boss are you okay?" Crook asked with a terrified expression. Not a single pirate was worried about Dirk, they were terrified, yes, they were terrified. They didn't want their captain to take his anger on them they knew how cruel he was.
"Fuck, do I look okay to you?" He yelled at Crook with an enraged expression. Dirk pointed at the Leo. "Just hold that brat, don't do anything." As the knife didn't go too deep in the eye, Dirk pulled it out while enduring the pain, and to stop the blood from coming he tied a cloth strip over his right eye.
Nejiko's mind was in mess with everything happening around her, but she put everything into the back of her mind. For now, the only thing she had to do is protect Leo. She stood in between Leo and Crook. "You can only get him over my dead body."
Crook gave a lewd smile. "Ahh... Your dead body is no good. I think you are more enjoyable alive." He licked his lips.
"Get the hell away from me, you stupid bitch. You are more disgusting than these pirates." Leo said with disgust and pushed her away.
Nejiko didn't know what's going on with her son, for now, she decided to ignore him, and again she stood in between them with a firm stance. Leo had a headache over this.
Just then Crook approached her and easily hit her on the back of her head and made her faint. She had an unshakable will to protect him, but not the power, so she could do nothing but get taken out of this scenario. Crook ordered one of the pirates, "Tie her up, and throw her into the kitchen, we will take care of her after the captain is done with this brat."
"Yes, vice-captain." That pirate dragged her away.
Inwardly Leo heaved a huge sigh of relief, for now, everything was going in the right direction as he planned. "Now everything depends on how Dirk will react." Leo was betting on the fact that Dirk hated him very much, he didn't know why, but there was an endless hatred in Dirk's eye for him, and being Injured by Leo had taken this hatred to whole another level. Leo was sure that dirk will not kill him instantly, he will take his sweet time to torture him until he was satisfied. And that's what Leo wanted, time, he heard from their conversation that Marines were chasing after them, pirates just stopped here for a short while, so he just have to bid his time till Marines arrived, and then everything would up to his luck.
After Dirk has done with his injury, hell broke onto Leo. After being tied to the chair, endless torture was being inflicted on him, even pirates were terrified by Dirk's torture. He pulled out every single one of Leo's nails, skinned his legs and hands, and then started burning them slowly.
"Aahhhhhh...…." Leo's endless screams kept echoing in the tavern. Pain! Pain!! Pain!!! There was only pain all over him. Did he regret going down this path? No, regret word didn't even come to his mind. Even though he felt so much indescribable pain, first time in his both lives he never felt so alive, he felt like chains of guilt on his being loosened. Even in the midst of screams, there was a smile lingering on his face, which continued to annoy Dirk, so torture became more and more horrid. That smile never gave him the satisfaction of the torture, so he continued to torture him, he wasn't going to stop until he erased that smile from his face.
Leo lost the sense of time, he didn't know how long he was being tortured, but he felt every second was like a year. He felt that he could lose his consciousness at any moment, but he persisted with his will, he screamed inwardly, "No, I must hold on, or else they would go to Nejiko after me." Even though he was so close to death; the first time he felt like he was truly living.
In the end, Dirk even skinned Leo's face and burned it. Now Leo's body looked like a burned corpse, you could even see bones in many places. Even then Dirk continued his torture. This scene was even unbearable to the cold-blooded pirates.
One of the pirates stopped Dirk. "Captain, you should stop, I think he is already dead." Finally, Dirk came out of his frenzied state. When he carefully looked at him, he found him dead. Even now Dirk felt that corpse was smiling at him. Not only, Dirk, all other pirates felt the same, they creeped out.
"Aahhhhh…" Dirk screamed in extreme anger, he felt like everything had done was useless. His anger wasn't subsided least bit, but instead, it increased even further.
Just then a pirate came running inside and yelled, "Captain, marines are here."
"Fuck, these dogs, why can't they stop chasing us? Don't they have other pirates to catch? They keep coming after us." Dirk said with extreme annoyance.
He took a last look at that smiling corpse, he felt like his head was going to burst with uncontrollable anger. After this, all the pirates hurriedly ran to their ship, on the way they set ablaze every house they encountered.
When they were finally leaving the island with their ship, they couldn't help but take a look in the town's direction, that image of a smiling corpse kept flashing in their mind, they felt like that image was going to haunt them for the rest of their lives.
On the marine ship.
"Commander, pirates are fleeing, should we chase them?"
Commander Dean was a seven feet tall, muscular man in his early thirties. It's been two months since he was promoted to the commander position. He truly hated pirates, if possible he wanted to wipe out every single one of them.
When commander Dean saw fleeing pirates and smoke rising on the island, he was enraged.
He couldn't help but exclaim, "Damn these scums of the sea, if I ever got my hands on them, I will make sure they regret ever being born."
This was one of the standard strategies of all the pirates. Whenever marines came to catch them on the island, before fleeing they will spread chaos all over the town, burning houses, injuring people. So as to tie up the Marines with rescuing people. This strategy worked most of the time, except when they encounter a marine, adamant believer of "Absolute Justice", like "Akainu".
He looked at his subordinates. "We will let these scums go, for now, our priority is to rescue anyone alive on the island."
He hated pirates, but common innocent people were countless times important than pirates.
After listening to his command everyone saluted at him in unison. "Yes, Commander!!"
