90% Omnipotent Odyssey / Chapter 27: Curse of the Omniscient

章 27: Curse of the Omniscient

However, that wasn't the only duty of the X-Men; they also hoped for mutant-human coexistence.

David, however, didn't share this belief and called the dream an unrealistic and incredibly stupid goal.

He argued that if humanity could barely stand each other just because of differences in skin color, language, or culture, it would be impossible for them to coexist with another race that not only looks like them but also shares the same DNA, yet can fly and shoot lasers from their eyes.

"Ms. Monroe, first, I would like to welcome you to Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters. By now, I'm sure you already know who the gifted youngsters are..." Charles began.

At this point, David simply stopped paying attention. He may have left the room, but that didn't mean he couldn't still hear what was being said inside.

Worse, just because he stopped actively listening didn't mean he wasn't aware of the conversation.

His life was a mess of unwanted information, and he had no choice but to live with it.

Leaving the office's vicinity, David headed straight for the basketball court—it was where he had been before the Blackbird landed.

Arriving there, he saw a small group of people, each in sportswear, playing.

However, David didn't join them; instead, he sat beside the only girl among them, who was sitting on the sidelines, watching.

Her red hair made her stand out, even among the many "freaks" here. Truthfully, if they followed the correct definition, only she and Ororo could be said to have mutations.

The others just had powers, but they had true mutations. No one on Earth had hair as naturally red as Jean's, nor did anyone have hair as white as Ororo's.

"So, how did it go?" Jean asked almost as soon as he sat down.

"As well as it could. So, who's winning?" David answered.

"Is this one of those things you can't tell me because it spoils the future?" Jean asked, causing David to turn to her in surprise.

"What? No!" David said.

Even he hadn't expected such a response. Well, he knew it was coming, but he wasn't just seeing one timeline. Looking at the abnormally bright girl sitting beside him, David smiled.

"Then tell me!" she said, playfully slapping his arm.

"Okay, okay. The professor chased me out of the room," David replied, scratching the back of his head.

"Pfft!" She chuckled. "You wanted to challenge her to a fight, didn't you?" Jean asked.

"Am I that easy to read?" David frowned, noticing a trend.

"Yes, but it makes you feel more human," Jean replied with a smile that nearly swept him away.

"That's good to know," David responded, turning back to the game.

Seeing it through television was one thing, but seeing it now, David had to admit—Jean Grey was absurdly beautiful.

He had seen literal angels, and some of them couldn't even compare to her.

Over the past three years, the two had gotten closer, as he felt obligated to help her reach her peak.

If this world was a computer, she would be either the battery or the power source, and he would be the motherboard.

They were drawn to each other, but the curse of being omniscient was that you couldn't live your life as you pleased.

The Summers family had to exist.

Rachel Summers wasn't called the Messiah for nothing. Cable was a hero in all timelines, and without him, the world might be doomed before humanity even began.
