100% Oh Heavens!!! Where Is My Cheat??? / Chapter 4: Delusions of grandeur

章 4: Delusions of grandeur

Ling Ye controlled himself after letting out evil laughter and posing for a few moments to his heart's content.

"If I remember correctly, every time the protagonist narrowly escapes death due to a calamity and survives, he will be soon rewarded with some OP power or treasure. Maybe, I was meant to be here. If I was left to my devices, I wouldn't have come so deep into the forest."

Now, everything made perfect sense to Ling Ye. That lightning bolt had appeared out of nowhere when he had asked for his cheat. Maybe, it was heaven's way of guiding him to his power. And also, what was the odds of a lone bird taking him away and crashing into this particular spot and dying immediately afterward?

Not to mention, the bird had fallen down so suddenly that he didn't have much chance to do anything else. Now that he thought about it, even the evil cultivator's act of robbing him off all his treasures also fit in perfectly. Wasn't this how things happened to the protagonists in the story?

Due to a string of miscellaneous circumstances, the protagonist will be forced to enter a certain region where he will receive a powerful treasure or cultivation technique helping him to surpass his peers and trample over countless geniuses. What was currently happening to him, surely fit those criteria perfectly.

"Still, we could have done all these without that lightning," Ling Ye grumbled as he slowly stood up from his position.

"Now then, where is my inheritance? I am sure that it is in the surrounding area somewhere. Guess, I will have to search this area carefully. I can't let out even a single spot."

Deciding upon a course of action, Ling Ye began to search the surrounding area of his crash site for anything out of ordinary. He began to search very carefully, inspecting each and every rock and stone, as he looked around for anything that might seem out of place. After all, most of those amazing treasures he had read in the novels were something small and easily overlooked by others like a stone, pendant, chain, or something like that.

But, as more and more time progressed, Ling Ye's face couldn't help but become gloomy. No matter how carefully he searched his surroundings, everything looked to be normal. He even went as far as to pick each and every rock he had stumbled upon and analyze carefully. Despite that, he had nothing to show for his efforts apart from a pile of stones.

"I guess then the probability of finding a treasure is out of the running. In that case, it must be either an inheritance of a technique or something along that line. Still, anything is fine at this point," Ling Ye grumbled.

"But, before that, I need to eat something. I am way too tired, and I don't have any more energy to continue. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to eat, sigh!" Ling Ye sighed looking around for any fruits or anything else edible.

After searching for a while, his eyes finally landed on the dead bird that had brought him here.

"He he he... Oi birdy, didn't you want to eat me? Now, I am going to eat you. Serves you well for eyeing this great Ling Ye. He he he...."

Ling Ye soon started cooking the bird with a makeshift stove. He gathered a bit of firewood from the surrounding. Considering that he was currently in the middle of a large forest, it wasn't that hard to find wood. Next came the fire, but the original Ling Ye had practiced a very useful fire creating technique during his preparations to go out of the sect.

Soon, Ling Ye skinned the large bird and used a hard branch from a nearby tree to grill the entire bird. As the fat dripped into the fire, the fire sizzled and soon the aroma of a cooked bird began to assault his nose.

"While I don't like being cooked by lightning, the smell of a cooked bird does feel delicious. While the bird is being cooked, I better harvest anything valuable from the remains," Ling Ye muttered as he started recalling the information about the wild beast materials from the memory of the original Ling Ye.

"While this bird is nothing special, its feathers could fetch a pretty little amount in the market. Wild beasts like these might not be useful to cultivators, however, to mortals, these beast materials are very useful."

Ling Ye soon partitioned the useful bits of the wild bird's feather and discarded the other parts. He was genuinely surprised after examining the feathers in detail. While the bird looked like an ordinary beast, from his examination of the feathers he could identify it as a variant of a monster beast.

"Huh, I guess this bird was a descendant of an eagle-type monster bird. The feather structure is similar to it. But without the monster bird's bloodline, it wouldn't have grown so huge. Guess, its my good luck. These types of feathers are highly sought after for arrow fletchings in the mortal kingdoms. He he... like I thought. I do have the good luck of a protagonist."

"After eating and resting for a bit, I need to search the surroundings clearly. My luck can't be bad. So, there must really be something very precious here."

Soon, the wild bird was cooked and Ling Ye thanked the stars that the original had prepared beforehand to live in the wilderness. As part of his preparation to temper himself in the mortal world, the original Ling Ye had learned how to cook wild animals to provide sustenance.

"Looks like the original fellow was not bad. Even though he had fasting pills, he had been prepared enough to learn to cook. Now that I think about it, those protagonists in those novels never seem to have the need to survive in the wilderness. Guess, I am pretty special in that way. This is also good. For, I, Ling Ye, must have something unique in my story."

"Compared to those protagonists who were handed the cheat system the moment they came to the new world, my experience is far more thrilling. If anyone where to read about this, they would become my fan immediately. After all, I am undergoing more difficulties than those flower-boys who seem to rise out of bed and get some great cheat. He He...."

Ling Ye ate the cooked bird as he indulged in his delusions of grandeur. He began to hum a peppy tune and started to eat voraciously. In the end, even he couldn't believe that his appetite was so large. He had almost eaten half of the bird before feeling full.

"Huh, it looks like those stories about martial artists not needing to eat for days are not that believable. If anything, the appetite of this new body is several times higher than the normal body."

Rubbing his stomach in a satisfied manner, Ling Ye relaxed as he gazed into the starry sky which looked very similar to his previous world. He soon began to lose himself in thoughts of grandeur as he imagined himself fighting demons and saving fairy maidens.

Soon, a wretched smile occupied his face as he began giggling madly. He decided that it was time for him to rest a bit and set out to search for his cheat the next day.

Lost in his dreams, Ling Ye used the feathers he had collected as a bed and soon went to sleep.
