章 6: In My Life Part 2
“I get if you don’t want to talk to me anymore”. Halian said as he started to walk away from Chelsea.
“No”. Chelsea said, grabbing Halian before he walked away. “Why would I do that?”
“Because I’m worthless. I don’t have a family or a home”.
“That doesn’t make you worthless. I actually think you’re kind of strong”.
“Really?”
“Yeah. You can take care of yourself. My parents still do almost everything for me. How do you do it?”
“I don’t know. I just do. I guess I have no choice but to”.
“See, I couldn’t do that.”
“But at least you go a home”.
“Yeah, but my parents are so annoying sometimes I wish I could be out by myself. I could be free to do whatever I want. Just like you”.
“Freedom is nice, but so is a warm meal”.
Chelsea took Halian to a taco truck called Traco’s. The truck was red and blue with a vinyl sticker of a taco with legs and eyes waving to them. Chelsea ordered carne asada fries and the pair shared the plate together. Halian took his first bites and became entranced with the dish. He dug in soon after that.
“What is this called?” Halian asked.
“Carne Asada fries. My mom said that I shouldn’t eat too much of it because it will make me fat. But I just like it so much that I can’t help myself. I guess that it’s my comfort food”.
“Why does it make you feel good?”
“It just makes me not think about my problems anymore. For the few minutes that I am eating it I feel like I can get away from everything. I know, it’s weird. But that’s my reason”.
“I don’t think it’s weird at all. Everyone has something right?”
“What makes you feel better?”
“Well, it’s kind of hard to explain”.
“It’s something that I would have to show you instead of tell you”.
“Oh. Can you show me?”
“Uh, it’s sort of complicated”.
“Then uncomplicate it for me”.
“Come”. Halian told Chelsea as he grabbed her hand. Halian took her down into an alley that was quiet enough so that they would not be disturbed by any on lookers who would wonder what was going on. Chelsea seemed to be more than a bit confused as to why they were in an alley, but Halian smiled as he marched forward.
“If you wanted privacy, we could have just walked outside the record store”. Chelsea said.
“I just figured that this would be the best spot to show you who I am”.
“What do you mean?”
Halian turned around and closed his eyes. He was shaking a bit, but that soon subsided. Then, Halian was gone. Chelsea looked shock and looked around for Halian. But she could spot no signs of him being anywhere in the alley. Not around the dumpers, the ladder, the corner. He was just gone.
“Halian?” Chelsea cried out.
A barn owl walked out from the shadows. Chelsea looked at the owl with a dose more of confusion. She looked around to see if there was some sort of shelter nearby or a pet store but there was nothing in sight. She then noticed that the owl was rather stoic and did not seem to be alarmed by her. She began to approach the owl.
“Hey”. The barn owl said, as Chelsea began to put two and two together.
“…Halian?” Chelsea asked.
“Yeah, it’s me. This is who I really am”.
Chelsea’s eyes went wide as her jaw began to drop. He knees began to shake as her body slowly swayed. She did not say anything as Halian looked at her with concern. Her hands went up, but she became frozen in place. Chelsea began to back up away from Halian who in turn began to get closer to her.
“Chelsea…”
“Get away from me!” Chelsea screamed, running out of the alley as fast as she could.
“Wait!” Halian shouted, having turned himself back to his human form. “See? I’m back! It’s okay Chelsea! Please! Just wait!”
Halian tried running after Chelsea, but there were people around the corner who saw Chelsea yelling and running away from him. Older, taller, and stronger men who were smoking black and milds and cigarillos. They all looked at Chelsea with concern before they turned their attention towards Halian.
“Chelsea!” Halian cried out. “Just hold on a sec…”
“Hey!” A random man on the street shouted. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Yeah!” Another random man on the street shouted. “Why are you harassing that girl?”
“I…I…I didn’t do anything!”
“Yeah right!” The first random guy yelled.
Halian ran out of there with a great deal of speed that propelled him. The random guys followed right in behind him. They were able to begin to catch up to him as Halian looked back and noticed. Halian looked around and saw that he was surrounded by buildings and people who were shopping as the guys drew in even closer.
Right as he was about to turn a corner, a hand reached out and pulled Halian into another dark alley.
