If the rambling wasn't enough, what made Kazuki roll his eyes even more was the Third Hokage going on and on about the Will of Fire.
Was he trying to turn him into another Shisui?
Listening to the Third Hokage talk about the greatness of the village and the legacy of the Will of Fire, not only Kazuki and Kaze were fed up, even Izumi, who had just graduated from the ninja academy and was full of love for the village, couldn't take it anymore.
If she weren't afraid of getting scolded by Kazuki, Izumi might have shivered and broken out in goosebumps.
"Kagami was my comrade, my friend, and a student of my teacher. Unfortunately, he... sigh~"
"..."
The Anbu ninjas following in the shadows all looked at Kakashi.
They wanted to ask, since when did the Hokage start reminiscing about the past so much?
The Third Hokage rambled on all the way until nightfall before finally stopping.
Would the Third Hokage bring Kazuki to his side and ramble on for no reason?
Clearly not.
There was naturally a purpose behind this, but the results weren't very satisfying.
After an afternoon of testing, the Third Hokage could confirm that Kazuki was different from the typical Uchiha.
Though he couldn't become another Shisui, a stand-in for Shisui, the biggest difference between Kazuki and other Uchiha was that Kazuki had no resistance to the village.
Even though there was currently a lot of distrust between the village and the Uchiha.
"The Uchiha are a part of the village and will always be a part of the village. I firmly believe this."
This was one of the few statements from Kazuki that pleased the Third Hokage.
Apart from that, what the Third Hokage couldn't accept was that Kazuki seemed to have no feeling whatsoever for the Will of Fire.
No matter how much he talked, Kazuki showed little reaction.
Clearly, Kazuki was an Uchiha who recognized the village but rejected the Will of Fire.
"Captain, if there's a next time for a task like this, please don't take me along."
During patrol, Kaze couldn't help but complain bitterly.
If he hadn't been tormented by the Third Hokage's constant talking, he would never have said something like this given his personality.
After all, he used to be: "If I don't like what I hear, I can ignore it."
This showed how powerful the Third Hokage's words were.
Do you think I wanted this?
If he could, Kazuki would rather disgust himself and grab a pile of manure to stuff into the Third Hokage's mouth just to shut him up.
"Bear with it. Tomorrow should be more peaceful."
Kazuki guessed correctly. The Third Hokage's endless chatter was definitely with a purpose, probably to test him.
Once the testing was done, there would be no more pointless talk.
If they found it unbearable, the Third Hokage, being old, wouldn't feel good talking so much either. It was a typical case of killing a thousand enemies and losing eight hundred of their own.
Our ears couldn't take it, and his throat couldn't handle it. No one would have a good time.
Indeed, at this moment, the Third Hokage didn't want to say another word. He had talked so much during the day that his throat was nearly on fire.
The night passed without incident. Kazuki and Kaze knew that with Anbu ninjas secretly protecting the Hokage, they didn't have to be overly concerned with patrolling and vigilance.
On the other hand, Izumi was fully focused, worried that enemies might appear and attempt to assassinate the Third Hokage.
As Kazuki had guessed, the Third Hokage was silent the next day, and the group reached their destination by afternoon.
They headed straight for the palace where the Daimyo resided.
In the Land of Fire, the Daimyo and the Hokage were theoretically equals.
Unfortunately, the Third Hokage didn't have the backbone of the First and Second Hokages, so he needed to notify the Daimyo before a meeting.
For someone who needed money, standing tall wasn't easy.
Seeing the Third Hokage waiting patiently with his hands behind his back in front of the palace, it was hard to imagine that this old man was the same person who held complete power in Konoha.
"Hmph, he finally decided to come?"
Upon receiving the notification, the Daimyo grumbled in displeasure:
"Let him in. I want to see how Hiruzen explains this."
"You may go in, sir, but you can't bring so many people."
The attendant looked at Kazuki and the others beside the Third Hokage. After all, it was a meeting with the Daimyo, and though guards were allowed, not all could enter the palace.
"Understood."
The Third Hokage nodded: "Kazuki, come with me."
"Yes."
Kazuki told Izumi and Kaze:
"You two find a place to rest. I'll come find you when we're done here."
He made a hand signal to Kaze that only they understood. Kaze nodded slightly and led Izumi away from the palace.
The rule that the Hokage couldn't bring too many guards or weapons when meeting the Daimyo was probably an odd one set by Hashirama Senju.
Only someone like him would think that the Hokage's strength posed a serious threat to the Daimyo.
Compared to the Hokage's office, the Daimyo's palace was truly luxurious. Even though Kazuki was prepared, he was still amazed by the extravagance. Indeed, money allowed for such indulgence.
Following the attendant to the main hall of the palace, Kazuki saw the Daimyo with a sour expression.
The Daimyo didn't seem to be in a good mood.
With a heart full of doubts, the Third Hokage stepped forward, nodded slightly, and spoke first: "Lord Daimyo."
"Hmph!"
The Daimyo responded with a cold snort of displeasure.
When did the Daimyo get such a temper? Wasn't this the same Daimyo who would shrink back at a glare from Danzo?
What was going on?
Kazuki was surprised.
"Hiruzen, how dare you come here? Don't you feel ashamed?"
The Daimyo didn't even bother addressing him as Hokage, directly calling him by his name and immediately scolding him.
The Third Hokage was puzzled. What had he done? Why should he feel ashamed, and why shouldn't he come to the Daimyo's mansion?
"I don't understand, Daimyo. Have I offended you in some way?"
From the looks of it, if he didn't calm the Daimyo's anger, there would be no discussion about funding this year.
"Take a look at this."
The Daimyo, too lazy to explain, threw a scroll to the Third Hokage.
Didn't you say you hadn't offended me?
Then take a good look at the fine deeds your Konoha has done.
I've been so scared these days that I've had to find a place to hide just to sleep peacefully.
Thinking about the grievances he had suffered over the years, the Daimyo's face grew even darker.
Could it be that the leaked information had reached the Daimyo?
Kazuki caught the scroll, handed it to the Third Hokage, and continued to stand by, ready to watch the drama unfold.
Today's scene was going to be interesting. Kazuki hadn't expected that a report with little truth would anger the Daimyo so much.
Indeed, the more someone enjoyed life, the more they feared death. The Daimyo was a prime example.
Frowning, the Third Hokage opened the scroll, eager to find out why the Daimyo was so angry.
