章 34: Detective work
"Search all the houses and turn everything around if you must.
Kimimaro and Mangetsu start from the north side. Choji and Yamato start from the west, while I and Minamoto will start from the south.
Ichika you get Kenji and start from the east.
We will search inwards , where we will exchange information of our findings. Mark every suspicious house. After the search we will come back and look together. Niko(the nara woman) said."
"O and Ichika and Kimimaro keep your eyes open would you."Niko continued while Ichika and Kimimaro nodded.
"Hanzo we will release you after we finish the search is that alright by you?"Niko said as she and Minamoto started going to the south side of the village. Hanzo looking helplessly at their departing figures, while thinking they didn't even gave him time to refuse. Soon after he departed towards the village center.
Kimimaro and Mangetsu started walking towards the north side while upping the pace towards the end of the village.
"I start from the right side you by the left. Whistle if you find something. " Mangetsu ordered while he entered a house.
Kimimaro nodded and departed towards another house.
When he entered his house he went towards the living area.
"Hmm they are rich even, if they are on the outskirts of the village." Kimimaro thought while he went towards the basement.
"The smoked meat is freshly hooked while the baskets of rice are untouched, which means they didn't got any kind of food.Hmm…. I must see the wardrobe, if they took any clothes."
Kimimaro searched the house for a wardrobe which he found in the bedroom.
"A young couple lived here, judging from the up to the era clothes, but it looks like the also didn't took anything from here." Kimimaro thought while frowning.
"BYAKUGAN!"He activated his eyes and did a thorough scan of the house, he zeroed the futons he moved them aside then with the tatami mats. There he stepped on a board on the floor. She lifted herself up and Kimimaro removed it. (There it laid the One piece)
There it laid golden ornaments, two sacks of coins and sentimental things.
"Now I can be absolutely sure whoever they are not bandits, chakra users or not. " Kimimaro said out loud.
"Lets visit the next house." He thought while going in that direction.
And just like that, house after house, neither he or Mangetsu found anything giving them clue about the abductors. Till they reached a kinda big house close to the village centre. He did the routine check and activated his dōjutsu to sweep the house again. And then he finally found something. A old man corpse lying down two metres under the ground. He smiled a little and marked the front of the house. And continued next door.
Soon they finished all the houses and they went towards the town hall.
"Found anything?"Niko asked while everyone shook their heads, till Kimimaro raised his hand. Everyone looked at him giving him signal to tell them what he found.
"I found a fresh corpse of an old man buried inside his yard." Everyone frowned until Kenji asked.
"Alright you will lead us there and check it after we search the village hall for any other evidence. Niko and Minamoto nodded approving the idea. Unfortunately they didn't find anything there and they went towards the house.
"Where's the body exactly." Kenji asked while he entered the yard."
Kimimaro marked the place and Kenji squatted and after couple hand signs. Doton: Kaido Shokūtsu (earth style: erupt) and the body gou out of the ground. Everyone closed towards the body to inspect it.
"Oh… by the six sage this is Masamune an old guard that retired ten years ago. "Hānzo said while he gasped.
"Judging by his wounds on the neck and the body he was killed when the abductors got the peasants." Niko said.
"Did he knew how to use chakra?"Niko asked while looking towards Hānzo
"Yes, he was one of the best, thats why he was an instructor of the new guards that specialised in chakra enchantments" Hānzo confirmed.
"Then the abductors were most probably ninjas, specialising in genjutsu, but…I don't know if the big genjutsu clans needs to do such things. The Uchihas don't steal, they take, while the Chinoike clan are to far from here to do such thing for slaves. It will be logistical nightmare to sent them back to their territory, and they gain nothing with making enemies with Hiratsuka city, unless….Kimimaro- chan would you come with me for a moment."Niko said as she stood up and went towards the village centre.
"Soon they returned in the centre there Niko removed the celling of the well. And got one bucket of water. She showed it to him and asked.
"Would you look at the water for irregularities?"
Kimimaro nodded and activated his byakugan and frowned.
"There very small amount of foreign chakra in the water." He said while the others got enlightened.
"Just as I thought, they got water and filled it with their chakra , after that they returned it in the well. Like that everyone that consumes the water will have some amount of their chakra in their system, and after continuous consumption the body will not remove it as violently as the start because with every sip it will get amassed inside the body. Till the body will have a hard time to expel it outside without the knowledge how to do it. And after that it's easy work to put so many people in a genjutsu. Very smart scheme indeed. Let's check the other wells so Kimimaro can recognise their chakra if he sees them. Niko said as she smirked a little.
"Thank the six age we didn't came later, because right now I barely see any irregularities." Ichika said as she to got used to the foreign chakra.
