Seraphina walked into the orphanage with a small smile on her face. The whole place was silent which was rare because Susan usually let the kids stay up late since they all weren't having any school activities till 9am.
She stepped into the hall, looking straight at the reception where a young lady sat, her gaze focused on the computer in front of her. "Excuse me, where is Susan?"
She looked up from the computer before standing up slightly. "Ma'am Susan isn't around. She took the night off because of some things she had to get for the orphanage. The new assistant director assigned her new tasks." She explained and u nodded before walking towards the hallway, leading to the children's room.
As I stepped into the hallway, the gentle sounds of heels echoing against the marble floor announced the presence of the unfamiliar person.
"Who let you in?" An ever so familiar voice asked her. Staring right at the brunette haired lady in front of her, a frown appeared on Seraphina's face. "People who aren't in the orphanage aren't allowed in anymore."
"Good evening to you too, Melanie." Seraphina replied as she folded her arms across her chest. "I have permission to visit Cheryl from the hospital everytime since I am her registered guardian. Do you have any problem with that?"
"I do not see the reason you should be the registered guardian when she clearly is an orphan. Unless you want to adopt her which I know you are not capable of doing, you should not bear her guardian's name." Melanie said with a devious smirk on her face, which made Seraphina scoff.
"Seems you've grown wings recently because you are now a low life assistant director after sleeping your way to it." Seraphina mocked and Melanie's face turned red in embarrassment. "Tell me I'm wrong."
"You aren't allowed into the children's room. No matter who you are. I am still the…"
"Seraphina." Cheryl rushed out of the room and hugged Seraphina tightly. Seraphina could tell the little girl had been scared to the bones.
Cheryl had a similar heart condition to her and she hasn't been adopted ever since because of it. She was calm and knowing Seraphina understood her, she was the only one she warms up to and talks to.
"I've asked you to stay in your room little brat. You will get it from…"
"Do not change the loving environment these children grew up in with your lust for power, Melanie. Do not forget you also grew up in an orphanage." Seraphina warned before taking Cheryl to her room, hugging her tightly. "If she does anything to hurt you, tell me and I will make sure I find a way to adopt you."
Cheryl looked at her in shock. That was the first time Seraphina will actually talk about her adoption and she knew it must have had something to do with Melanie.
"She is very wicked." Cheryl whispered, hugging Seraphina tightly. "She hit me twice today."
"Don't listen to her. If she crosses the line, it will be the end of her job. I don't mind giving up my job to come work here." Seraphina assured. Although she knew the money from the orphanage won't be able to pay DGE hospital fees if she quited her job, but she knew she would get the most possible means to pay her father's bills.
As she saw Cheryl to sleep, her phone started to buzz and she saw an unknown number come up. "Hello, this is Seraphina speaking…"
"Miss Seraphina, you are needed in your home immediately for the transferring of your father to the hospital." A masculine voice came on the other side of the phone.
"I thought his highness said that would be tomorrow morning." She asked as she hurriedly packed her things and rushed out of the room, almost bumping straight into Melanie who gave her a dirty side eye. Seraphina just ignored as she rushed out of the orphanage and made her way towards her house.
"He asked us to prepare it tonight because of some urgent issues."
As soon as Seraphina got to her house, some guards dresses in black suits stood by the two SUV with arms folded and an ambulance in between. Gabriel was standing at the door waiting for her.
"His highness asked us to bring him into the hospital tonight. The doctor went through his file and suggested he should be brought in tonight." Gabriel explained as Seraphina opened the door and led them in.
Her father was laying numb in his bed but he was conscious. "Dad I'm home." She kissed his forehead gently as she helped him to sit up. "I've found a way to put you in a better hospital so you will be going tonight."
"Sera… Phina." Her father whispered as he was helped into the ambulance. She got in with him and they all drove to DGE where Cullen was already waiting for them.
Seraphina was surprised they were taken to the top VIP floor and she knew there wasn't no way Lucian didn't want something from her but she didn't know what exactly it was he wanted.
As her father settled in, Seraphina stood in the passageway and just then, she felt a cold breeze pass through her and Lucian appeared in the hall, his body filled with blood.
"Your highness…" Seraphina gasped as soon as her eyes fell on the huge gap in his stomach obviously made by not less than three bullets. "Are you okay?"
