"Soooo… Penny?"
"Yes, beloved?" Penny asked, holding onto Ruby's hand as they walked around through the Emerald Forest together- both of them dressed in casual clothing because they were sticking to one of the "safe" paths where grimm tended not to wander for whatever reason. Probably because it was too close to Beacon and anything that wandered there got obliterated either by the school's defenses or because of their fellow students obliterating the grimm to test out new weapon modifications or fighting techniques.
That, or they were scared off by Ruby's presence again now that she'd build up a half decent stockpile of grimm matter again. Nothing near where she'd been before, but… enough. More than enough, really.
"I was just thinking about the Dance this weekend… and how… um…" Ruby blushed, thinking of Penny's dress with a slightly embarrassed smile on her face. Even if it was just a rather plain, simple, and homely dress in a nice, cute forest green that complimented her complexion, it still made her look even cuter than normal and seeing Penny wearing it made her heart skip a beat. That wasn't even remotely what Ruby was going to say, though, since Penny was well aware of how Ruby felt about her prom dress.
"So… I don't know how to dance. That's um… that's kinda the thing. Also, um… what color should I wear? I don't wanna clash too much with your dress but Pyrrha's already wearing red and I don't wanna wear black or white because Weiss and Blake are already doing that and I don't think I can shapeshift green super well unless I just start bleeding acid everywhere but… um… I mean I guess I could go like a darker red? Or a brighter one… Pyrrha's got like a really royal shade of red and I like blood red or rose red…" Ruby rambled a bit awkwardly, squeezing Penny's hand like a lifeline as she leaned against her taller girlfriend, resting her head on Penny's shoulder as she idly fingered the mechanism of Crescent Rose's trigger in silent warning to the two Beowolves that had snuck up on the side of the trail.
They wisely left without a fuss.
Good doggies.
"I think rose red would suit you extremely well! Oh- you could wear a suit!" Penny gasped, fanning herself a bit as she leaned in and pressed a kiss to Ruby's cheek. "I think you would look extremely dashing in a fancy suit, beloved! Though, I cannot say I have ever seen you wear anything resembling one. I just know you would look absolutely amazing! And, with your cape as well… you would be like a fairytale hero and I could be a princess!"
"Heh, you already are my princess though," Ruby giggled, returning Penny's kiss with a soft, gentle smooch to Penny's lips and a quiet little growl of delight as she moved her hand from Penny's grip to around her delicate waist. "You're my amazing, beautiful, super awesome princess! But yeah, a cool suit would be nice… especially since I wouldn't have to wear heels… bleh. Stupid lady stilts…"
"Aren't you extremely accomplished with using Stiletto Runway, though? You seem to wear them quite well for all that you do not like wearing regular high heels," Penny stated, tilting her head as she and Ruby came to a halt on the path, stopping naturally as it continued past on a bend and they both silently decided to stop right in front of a bench that was placed rather conveniently at that point.
Beacon sure did like making sure that all of their campus hiking trails had an appropriate amount of stone and wooden benches everywhere. Rather nice of them, honestly.
Ruby just shrugged, separating from Penny for a moment so she could kick her feet a bit awkwardly- sending little bits of dust and pebbles flying as she toed the ground with her boots. "I dunno? There's like, a difference between Stiletto Runway and other heels though! Stiletto Runway is way tougher and more durable and the weight helps me balance better. Regular heels are like… stupid lady stilts and they make me feel I'm all unstable and stuff."
"Stiletto Runway does indeed have a more stable structure due to the ankle supports and the connected heel strut… have you tried wedges?" Penny asked, sitting down on the bench and placing her hands in her lap in the most picture perfect example of a demure, pure maiden possible as she motioned for Ruby to sit down with her- the red Huntress eagerly following along as her ears twitched slightly and her tail wagged behind her. "Wedge heels are much more stable and just as stylish, or so Weiss tells me. I think she and Blake would be the best to ask, given their history of wearing high heels and wedge heels in combat… or perhaps Cinder? Or Emerald… or Neo… or Coco! Or Veridis-"
"Who's Veridis?"
"I believe she is an acquaintance of Team CMNE on Team SVVA (Saffron) in second year. She seems to be very flirtatious with other women," Penny deadpanned, rolling her eyes with sarcasm for the first time in… a while. She didn't do it much, seeing as she didn't want people to think she was a mean, sarcastic girl, but a mild joke about the snake woman's well known proclivities was… probably fine. "Regardless- if you do not want to wear heels, I certainly will not tell you to do so, beloved. However, I do think that you would look wonderful no matter what you wear."
She paused, then looked Ruby up and down as she noticed, rather belatedly, that her beloved was wearing her nice hoodie (for a given value of "wearing" when one was a shapeshifter…) over pajama pants and ankle boots. "... Though I do think dressing up a little would be best, given that the Dance has a dress code."
"Hehe, yeah… I don't like dressing fancy that much, but it is kinda nice feeling all fancy and pretty sometimes," Ruby snickered a little, snuggling into Penny's lap and nuzzling against her favorite spot, her lips pressing against the curve of Penny's gently freckled shoulder and kissing as many as she could reach. "I'd do it for you anytime you asked though- really, I'd do just about anything for you at this point! Cuz I love you so much!"
"Oh Ruby, I love you too!" Penny cried out, hugging Ruby in a sudden burst of emotion as she squeezed her girlfriend close, rocking back and forth slightly as she pressed kisses against the curve of Ruby's wolf ear and giggled happily. "I love you so, so much- I would do anything for you as well!"
"Oh Penny, you've already done more than enough for me," Ruby sighed, continuing to snuggle into Penny's neck and hug her tightly, rumbling low in her throat as she wrapped her cape around the both of them and squeezed ever so gently- enough to let Penny feel the full depth of her love, but not so tight that she'd damage Penny's parts. "I'm still not sold on wearing heels though."
"Drat. I suppose I will have to try a different tactic if I am to…" Penny paused, then bonked her head against Ruby's with just a tad bit of force to get her girlfriend's attention. "Could you not just use Stiletto Runway if you wear a dress?"
"I thought I was wearing a suit?" Ruby blinked slowly, pulling back just enough to look Penny in the eyes, still keeping her hands on Penny's shoulders while Penny's hands encircled her waist. "I mean, I won't say no to a dress but… I could go either way? I guess? I mean, I guess I could wear Stiletto Runway too… but wouldn't it look weird with a suit?"
"Not at all! You'd look amazing no matter what!"
"I think you'd look more amazing than that," Ruby pointed out dryly, then shook her head. "We shouldn't get too stuck in a back and forth… um… maybe flip a coin? Heads I wear a dress, tails I go for a suit, and then uh… maybe give Stiletto Runway a new coat of paint so it matches my outfit better?"
"Ooh, that sounds lovely! What color were you thinking of using?" Penny asked, tilting her head slightly as she grinned at Ruby, squeezing her sides with her hands while she nuzzled into a tendril of Ruby's cape that rose up to brush over her cheek like a gentle thumbstroke.
"Mmm… mostly red and black? Same as usual, really. Might go with some black leggings underneath… I've never really worn a suit before but it can't be that hard to come up with something, right?" Ruby posited, shrugging as she grew another arm specifically for the purpose of tapping her chin thoughtfully. "Oh! Weiss probably knows how to make a suit look really good!"
"Indeed! We should talk to her about it later!"
Ruby grinned, then hugged Penny tight and started peppering Penny's face with kisses. "You're so smart, firefly! Time for kissies!"
"Yaaaay~!"
They did not return to Beacon until the sun was down.

I haven't been drawing much lately because I've been doing extra fic writing stuff and drawing takes time and energy but you will get a few drawing in a few chapters for the dance, I promise you that
