Over the weekend, Nagisa planned to assume a new routine. During mornings he would spend time forging his next sword. On weekdays he would then attend class as per usual and on evenings secretly train with Emi.
Lastly the weekends would be spent on additional training with Emi. Chisa visited her family over the first weekend at the academy. This allowed Nagisa to plan things properly and train some more with Emi before Monday.
Nagisa yawned while walking to class first thing on Monday morning. A light tap to his shoulder made him turn his head.
"Morning!" Chisa brimmed with energy.
"Morning," Nagisa kept on yawning.
Chisa tilted her head and walked to Nagisa's right.
"Still tired? Thought you would get a good rest this weekend!" Chisa asked.
She then laughed for a second, "Did Emi keep you up?" Chisa grinned laughingly.
"No," Nagisa sighed and looked up to stare at the sky for a second.
Chisa was not entirely wrong. Emi kept Nagisa up through their joint training sessions during late evenings in the forest. But it was for their both mutual benefit and Nagisa intended on keeping it a secret from Chisa.
They made it in good time for class and took their seats, then the bell rang. Chitose came in with a girl next to her and closed the door.
"Take your seats, class will now be in session," Chitose instructed them.
The girl stood next to Chitose by the whiteboard.
"But first, let me introduce your new classmates," Chitose said and coughed.
A few people glanced over and gave weird looks, and there was slight chatter being heard.
"Is that what we think it is?"
"Eww, not a half-breed!"
"We already got a few in the other classes, how are they even allowed in?"
The commotion was about a single key characteristic regarding the girl standing in front of them. She had short and pointy ears, meaning she was a half-elf. However Nagisa got a strange feeling about the girl and her aura, it felt like she was hiding something.
"Quiet all of you! The academy does not tolerate any form of discrimination against the lower races. If they are capable, acknowledge them for their will to help humanity," Chitose got all serious and silenced the entire classroom.
Chitose paused for a second and stared down the class for absolute silence.
"Ok, good," Chitose smiled and was pleased.
"This girl's name is Airi! As you all can tell by the looks of her ears, she is a half-elf! Airi is quite capable, however wishes to remain anonymous with her current stage and magic for now! That will be all!" Chitose introduced Airi.
Airi took the seat in front of Nagisa and he felt a strong fluorescent scent coming from her. Elves were typically woodland creatures, similar to werebeast and indulged in nature.
This was the first time Nagisa had seen one, and especially this close up from behind. Airi's scent and long blonde hair made him space out slightly. Her ears were cute and Airi had opal eyes similar to Emi's sapphired ones, but a slightly yet different alluring blue color.
"Is she really that enchanting to you?" Chisa puffed one of her cheeks and crossed her arms.
Nagisa carefully laughed, he sensed Chisa was angry at how taken he was by Airi.
"Sorry," Nagisa apologized by whispering in Chisa's ear.
"Hmmph!" Chisa faced the other way.
Airi reminded Nagisa a bit of Risa. Her skin appeared a tad pale and fragile, yet in a rejuvenated and intoxicating way. Nagisa gulped, perhaps Airi's skin was as smooth as Emi's? Nagisa shook his head slightly to return to his senses.
Class covered some more things about demons and not before long the bell rang.
"Let's head for lunch, shall we?" Chisa was already in a better mood now that it was time to eat.
"Yeah! I am starving!" Nagisa smiled.
At lunch Chisa and Nagisa sat down at their usual place by the window to have an outlook on the garden outside. Nagisa took notice how Airi sat all by herself and ate lunch.
"You know… they are not that uncommon…" Chisa glanced over at a different table to point out there were more half-elves around.
Nagisa only noticed a couple of girls sitting around a table and all wearing caps. He failed to comprehend Chisa's point.
"Their caps…" Chisa sighed, "They wear them to hide their ears and to not be targeted by anyone, abiding quietly the hidden school rules," Chisa explained.
"I see… but I do not see Airi wearing one…" Nagisa nodded, then pointed out.
Chisa shook her head.
"Yeah… some are too prideful to wear one…" Chisa concluded.
They finished their lunch and Nagisa realized he forgot his backpack in the classroom.
"I will catch up with you later!" Nagisa sprinted off to retrieve it.
All of his important notes were stashed in there. If the notes got in the wrong hands just like his letter to May in his previous world, it could strike disaster. Just the mere thought made Nagisa shiver.
Upon returning to the classroom, Nagisa heard some familiar voices and chose to hide behind the door and slowly peak in. There was Daiki, Sakai and Ayato in there with two other boys from one of the parallel classes.
They all surrounded a specific person, and Nagisa only recognized who once Daiki slightly moved and caused a gap to see through. It was Airi.
"Do you not think you should hide those despicable ears of yours?" Daiki sneered.
Their entire group laughed. Airi was not bothered by Daiki's remark and remained quiet.
"Huh… have it your way… I got something in mind that might make you want to talk!" Daiki unsheathed his sword and pointed it next to Airi's right ear.
Nagisa felt the urge and pressure to do something, this was similar to his days of being bullied and when he rescued Emi. Nagisa scratched his head until a thought popped into his head.
"Ok, got it!" Nagisa smiled mischievously.
