**November 1, 2010 - Shanghai**
*Xujiahui Catholic Church, 9 a.m.*
Scott assisted Chengdong in taking a seat in the front rows. Chengdong was suffering from a severe reaction to poison, his body trembling uncontrollably.
"Chengdong, are you truly alright? You... you coughed up blood. Do Jiale and Michelle know you were poisoned? Is this all because of Michelle's mother?" Scott inquired, his concern palpable.
"They... they don't know. I overheard everything while I was at the hospital where they were working. I need to use the restroom. It's fine, I'll manage on my own," Chengdong responded quietly.
As he walked away, memories from the previous month flooded his mind.
*October 5, 2010.*
The day Michelle and Jiale returned to Shanghai.
Despite the pain in his legs and lower body, Chengdong used crutches to reach Michelle's office.
*Shanghai First People's Hospital.*
Outside Michelle's office, he overheard a conversation between her and Jiale.
"Michelle, does Chengdong know about our marriage?" Jiale asked.
"I haven't told him. I don't want him to know. We're just friends," Michelle replied.
"Friends? But you were married in Kobe two years ago! Chengdong has publicly declared you his fiancée," Jiale said, astonished.
"I wanted to marry him, but after returning to Shanghai, I realized he had deceived me. He's fundamentally incapable! He has cancer! He is so reckless with his love that he risks his life for it! During the first half of our relationship, he was allergic to chili peppers but still ate them just to please me!" Michelle exclaimed angrily.
Chengdong pushed the door open forcefully, losing his balance and collapsing to the ground, injuring his already compromised stomach and lower body.
"Have you said enough? Why? Why do you treat me like this?" Chengdong shouted, tears streaming down his face.
A crowd began to gather.
Jiale attempted to help Chengdong up, but he pushed them away.
"Do not pretend to care! One is my best friend, and the other is the woman I love most! Why?! Why did you deceive me? I was a fool! Idiot! I believed you! I ignored my adoptive parents and Dr. Scott! They told me to let go of this relationship, that it would only lead to heartbreak! Yes, I am the biggest fool in the world! I thought I could earn your appreciation by sacrificing everything for you!" Chengdong exclaimed, rising in distress and walking away in tears.

*Outside the church.*
Huijuan and her associates awaited Chengdong.
"You still keep your promise. You want two vials of poison. Are you truly ready to die for my daughter?" Huijuan asked.
Chengdong accepted the two vials from her.
"Ha, my life has become a joke. I'm exhausted and no longer wish to live. Dr. Scott mentioned I have only a month left. Thank you, Aunt Chen, for the ride," Chengdong replied weakly.
"You've witnessed the wedding; it's time to leave. Don't disrupt the couple's happiness. You can't bear to see it," Huijuan laughed.
From a distance, Scott spotted them and called for Chengdong, who hastily concealed the vials in his pocket.
"If you wish to die quickly, just drink those poisons. I guarantee you'll be gone in under two hours," Huijuan whispered.
As she and her associates departed, Scott approached Chengdong.
"What is that cruel woman doing to you now? Didn't you promise her to leave Michelle alone?" Scott asked in distress.
"It's nothing. We just talked for a bit. Let's leave the church. I'm tired and want to go back to the apartment," Chengdong replied.
"Alright then," Scott conceded.
Scott drove to Chengdong's residence.

*In Chengdong's room.*
Chengdong retrieved his diary and began to write.
*November 1, 2010 - Rainy Day.*
*The darkest day (it feels like I'm the only one left in the world).*
It turns out I have been a joke since childhood. I fell in love with Michelle at ten. I lost my memory from ten to sixteen, yet I unknowingly fell for her again. I've done so many foolish things for her; now, I reflect on them all! Hahaha... (laughing until tears flow).
For her:
- Eating spicy Malatang (despite my chili allergy)
- Leaving the entertainment industry
- Helping her become a DJ in the hospital (which led to my dismissal)
- Serving two years in prison for her
- Running up and down thirty floors
But why? After all this, she only sees me as a "normal friend!" I've foolishly loved her for ten years! I deserve to be foolish! I deserve this for ignoring every warning! Scott advised me, my parents advised me, but I disregarded them and even scolded them!
Retribution! I deserve it! My cancer has relapsed, a blood clot has transformed into a malignant tumor, and my leukemia has returned, affecting my lymph nodes. I look like a walking corpse, yet I stubbornly cling to my love for Michelle.
I'm exhausted! I've sacrificed so much and nearly lost my life, yet she says, "It's your fault, and you suffer for it!" Hahaha! But she loves my best friend, Doctor Gu, Gu Jiale!
Chengdong closed the diary and penned a letter.
*Dad, Mom, Dr. Scott, I'm leaving. This is my decision to depart from this world. I choose the most painful way to die—injecting poison into myself. How ironic! I've lived in agony all my life, and I will die in pain. My life is so trivial!*
*Mom, Dad, I remember everything before I turned ten. Michelle's mother and father were responsible for my biological parents' deaths. How unfilial am I? Instead of seeking revenge, I fell in love with their daughter! I even asked the murderer for poison to end my life. What a farce!*
*I apologize to everyone. You've all done so much for me, trying to persuade me to abandon this relationship, but I stubbornly held on. Dr. Scott, you were right; I shouldn't have come to Shanghai. But I insisted on my path. Now I regret it, but it's too late.*
*My life has been squandered on someone who doesn't love me. For her, I sacrificed everything. My career is in ruins.*
*Mom, at my funeral, if Michelle and Jiale come, please give them my diary. Thank you. Do not show them this letter. I don't want them feeling guilty after reading it. They shouldn't feel guilty. While I was in the hospital for leukemia, I overheard that Jia Le met Michelle long before me. Though I'm not inferior in looks, my health has always been a disadvantage.*
*I've told myself countless times to let go of Michelle. Yet, I couldn't do it, not even once. I went to prison for her. Goodbye, everyone. Dr. Scott, you are my best friend and doctor. Mom and Dad, though you are not my biological parents, you have been the best in the world. Thank you all!*
*The last words of Song Chengdong.*
Chengdong folded the letter and sealed it in an envelope, placing the diary beside it. He headed to the shower, but his headache returned.
He continued to cough, expelling blood clots.
After showering, he dressed in a suit, styled his hair, and took a selfie.
In a daze, he sent the photos to Michelle, his parents, and Scott.
"Please use this photo as a posthumous picture for my funeral. Thank you," Chengdong wrote.
Michelle, resting in her hotel room, received the message and rushed to Chengdong's apartment before even changing into her wedding dress.
Chengdong prepared syringes and blades in his room, reflecting on Scott's words from a month prior.
*Three days after Chengdong was kidnapped and returned to the hospital.*
*September 3, 2010 - Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital, Chengdong's Ward.*
*Morning.*
Scott entered Chengdong's room.
Chengdong lay in bed, writhing in pain from the poison, shaking and drenched in cold sweat.
"Chengdong, what are you doing?! Those kidnappers are despicable! I'd rather they beat you than subject you to this torture! You're in the final stage of cancer, and they're treating you like this!" Scott shouted angrily.
"It hurts... it hurts... medicine... medicine!" Chengdong replied weakly, blood streaming from his nose.
Scott promptly administered a painkiller and wiped the blood from Chengdong's face.
"How long do I have left?" Chengdong asked.
"Estimated... less than two months," Scott answered.
*November 1, 2010 - In Chengdong's apartment.*
Chengdong injected the syringe into his neck and then made three incisions on his wrist.
Lying on the bed, he texted on WeChat.
"Farewell to this world forever. Finally... finally free. I have been... so very tired of being a clown my whole life," Chengdong cried and laughed.
At that moment, Michelle burst through the door.
"Chengdong! Chengdong! What are you doing!? Why are you being so reckless?" Michelle exclaimed, panicking.
"Michelle... why are you here? Please leave! You have dinner with Jiale tonight. My life isn't worth regretting," Chengdong whispered softly.
Michelle rushed to bandage his wrist.
"Stop talking nonsense! I'll take you to the hospital immediately! My wedding with Jiale is a sham. We're already married; how can I marry again?" Michelle insisted anxiously.
"Our wedding without witnesses was a fake, right? It was romantic, but...," Chengdong coughed violently, blood spilling from his mouth.
"No! Our wedding is real! The certificate is real! Chengdong, you have to believe me! Today's wedding is for my mother's approval. I hope she will let you go!" Michelle pleaded.
"Show it to your mother? Ahem... but it's too late. Michelle, I've been hiding so much from you. I just regained my memory recently. I've also recently been diagnosed with cancer, but... it's too late. I only... have one or two months left. Your mother didn't let me go. The day I was released from prison, she had me kidnapped, mutilated, and poisoned. I felt terrible this week, so I took two vials of poison from your mother and injected them into my neck," Chengdong explained with great effort as he cried.
At that moment, Mr. and Mrs. Song and Scott arrived at the apartment. Chengdong was bleeding from multiple wounds, clearly in agony. He lay on Michelle's wedding dress, clutching her hand tightly.
"I... I'm happy to die next to you. No... don't take me to the hospital. I'm exhausted. I've suffered from cancer for five years. That's enough. I either cough constantly or vomit and have headaches. Just let me die. I have no family around me. I've disappointed my adoptive parents," Chengdong stated.
Afterward, he continued to cough.
"Chengdong! We must go to the hospital now! Don't delay!" Michelle cried desperately.
"No... no need. I want to die at home," Chengdong replied weakly.
"Let him be. There's too much poison in him. He could go at any moment," Scott said.
Chengdong tightened his grip on Michelle's hand, his body shaking violently.
"I... I saw... them. They... they came to take me... away. Mi... Michelle... I will always love you..." Chengdong uttered before expelling one last sputum of blood, releasing Michelle's hand as he passed away with a smile.
"Song Chengdong, I will always love you," Michelle sobbed, embracing his lifeless body.
"Michelle, let go of Chengdong. He's gone," Scott said gently.
Michelle checked his eyes and pulse.
"Time of death..." Before she could finish, Ci En struck Michelle hard across the face.
"Michelle Chen, get out! Why? You were responsible for the car accident back then, and now you announce Chengdong's death? Don't you feel ashamed? Chengdong has suffered from amnesia since he was hit by your car at ten years old. His parents will never see him again! When he turned eighteen and recovered, he immediately sought you out! Why didn't you reject him then, allowing him to foolishly throw himself into this love? Because of you, he has serious health issues, yet you continued to let him eat chili peppers! Your mother is even worse! She killed his parents and still doesn't let him go! The Chen family is worse than beasts! It was your mother who injected him with poison, accelerating his cancer! The entire Chen family will face consequences!" Ci En screamed, pulling Michelle's hair furiously.
Scott announced the time of death just as Jiale arrived.
"Jiale, take Michelle and leave," Scott instructed.
Michelle, distraught, knelt and walked into the rain outside Chengdong's apartment. Jiale grasped her arm.
"Michelle, let's return to the hotel. We have a dinner tonight," Jiale urged.
"I don't want to attend any dinner! Chengdong is dead! There's no point in any of this!" Michelle protested, tears flowing.
"What about your mother?" Jiale pressed.
"Let's go to Chen's house and confront Chen Huijuan right now!" Michelle replied angrily.
Michelle and Jiale hurried to the car.
