章 9: Learning

Five days later, Fang Yuan emerged from the deep mountains, arriving on the other side of the mountain range.

"Finally out."

Glancing at his tattered clothes, Fang Yuan couldn't help but smile bitterly. Even he couldn't prevent his clothes from getting scratched while walking through the dense forest. Nevertheless, he had left the deep mountains, distanced himself from Kang City, and now everything would be easier.

"First, let's find a town and change into some new clothes."

Fang Yuan touched the money in his pocket and then checked the sky, choosing a direction with signs of human activity and heading that way.

When planning to leave the Zhao family, he had prepared everything. He wasn't lacking in money at the moment—all the wealth accumulated by Wang Cheng was now in Fang Yuan's possession.

In the Willow Leaf Town , Fang Yuan, dressed in new clothes, confidently walked out of the tailor's shop onto the street.

"This world is not much different from ancient times in my previous life, except for the existence of martial arts."

Observing the street vendors and crowds, Fang Yuan's eyes flickered. He then selected an inn and settled down.

"Establishing an organization is not something that can be done overnight."

"The most important thing now is to enhance my strength."

With this in mind, Fang Yuan reached into his chest and retrieved the 'Sun and Moon Revolving Technique,' which he had diligently protected.

"Let me see how the martial arts in this world differ from the real world."

Opening the book, rows of text appeared before Fang Yuan's eyes. After reading for a while, he frowned, instantly closing the book.

"Damn it, I can't understand some parts of the text..."

Fang Yuan was speechless. The writing in this world was somewhat similar to his understanding of Chinese characters, so he initially believed he could comprehend most of it. However, upon closer examination, he discovered that the writing in this world had some variations, different from what he knew.

"If I rely on my understanding of Chinese characters to guess, I might figure out some things, but..."

Fang Yuan shook his head slightly. This was a martial arts manual, and any misunderstanding could lead to deviation during practice.

"Wang Cheng's memories didn't include learning many characters. It seems I need to personally study the writing of this world."

With this thought, Fang Yuan put down the manual in his hand.

"I have the ability to memorize at a single glance. Even if I start from scratch to learn a script, it probably won't take much time—maybe four or five days at most."

After some contemplation, Fang Yuan went downstairs and asked the innkeeper where he could find a teacher in Willow Leaf Town and learned about reading and writing.

"A teacher? There are a few in town. The closest to our inn is Yang Fan. You can go find him."

Having learned Yang Fan's address from the innkeeper, Fang Yuan left the inn with money in his hands.

"This is it."

Looking at the simple house in front of him, Fang Yuan nodded, then reached out and knocked on the door.

"Knock, knock, knock!"

"I'm coming."

Creak, the wooden door opened, revealing a middle-aged scholar. Seeing Fang Yuan, Yang Fan looked a bit puzzled.

"Who are you?"

Fang Yuan arched his hand and said, "You must be Mr. Yang. I've come to visit because I want to learn writing and reading."

Saying that, Fang Yuan took out a few silver pieces and handed them to Yang Fan.

Seeing the silver in Fang Yuan's hand, Yang Fan nodded, "I am Yang Fan. You want to learn from me? Come inside then."

Yang Fan took the silver pieces Fang Yuan handed over. Fang Yuan nodded and then walked into Yang Fan's house.

In the living room, Yang Fan looked at Fang Yuan and said, "I'll teach you some commonly used characters. Pay attention."

Afterward, Yang Fan took out pen, ink, paper, and ink-stone, starting to grind ink and write.

Taking advantage of his photographic memory, Fang Yuan recorded all the characters Yang Fan wrote.

"Your memory is very impressive..."

Yang Fan looked at Fang Yuan with some bewilderment. If he hadn't noticed certain details indicating that Fang Yuan had never learned characters before, Yang Fan would have thought Fang Yuan was deliberately making fun of him.

"This kind of memory is already considered photographic."

Looking at Fang Yuan, Yang Fan felt a bit bitter.

Fang Yuan smiled faintly, "Please continue, Sir."

Hearing Fang Yuan's words, Yang Fan shook his head slightly, sighed, and continued to teach Fang Yuan characters. However, now Yang Fan's writing speed and teaching pace were much faster than before. He knew that Fang Yuan possessed a photographic memory, so he accelerated the teaching process.

Two days passed in the blink of an eye.

"Thank you, Master, for your guidance. I'll take my leave."

Fang Yuan expressed his gratitude, arched his hand, and then turned to leave.

He had already learned the characters of this world.

Watching Fang Yuan leave, Yang Fan shook his head slightly, not knowing what to say.

"Truly, there are always individuals who are superior to the rest of us!"

Fang Yuan had learned all the characters in just two or three days. This terrifying learning speed was something Yang Fan had never seen or heard of before.

During these past few days, he had truly gained some insight.

Fang Yuan walked briskly and soon returned to the inn. In his room, he took a deep breath and then brought out the book containing the Sun and Moon Revolving Technique.

Placing the manual on the table, Fang Yuan carefully perused its contents. Unlike the last time when it seemed like reading an incomprehensible celestial scripture, this time, Fang Yuan was already familiar with all the text.

"So, this is how martial cultivation works in this world."

After a long while, Fang Yuan closed the manual, his eyes filled with understanding. Through this martial art that could lead to the Nature realm, he had gained some insights into the differences between the martial arts in the two worlds.

"Both worlds share a similar starting point, generating inner breath or inner force."

"However, although inner breath and inner force seem drastically different, they are different descriptions of the same type of power."

Flashes of insight played in Fang Yuan's mind, recalling various training methods of the Fang family's Turtle Snake Coil.

"Nevertheless, even though the Yuan-Qi of the power is the same, the methods for cultivating inner breath/inner force are completely different in the two worlds, almost like two sides of the same coin."

Information about the Sun and Moon Revolving Technique continuously surfaced in his mind.

"These two martial arts can be integrated, and their training methods can complement each other..."

Taking a deep breath, Fang Yuan's eyes sparkled with excitement. From Turtle Snake Coil and the Sun and Moon Revolving Technique, he sensed that there were aspects where these two martial arts could merge, significantly accelerating his cultivation speed.

"Originally, I planned to break through to the Inner Breath realm through practicing the Turtle Snake Coil, which would take a considerable amount of time."

"But now, with the Sun and Moon Revolving Technique, I can swiftly enter the Inner Breath realm through its cultivation method."

"The Sun and Moon Revolving Technique allows martial practitioners to quickly enter the Inner Breath realm, which is equivalent to what is referred to as the Nurture realm in this world."
