*Chapter 18
Beneath the Surface
Sam's POV
I woke up to the soft light of dawn spilling through my bedroom window, casting a warm glow over the room. The events of the previous night still lingered in my mind, a haze of memories and emotions that refused to fade. As I sat up, I felt a slight pang in my chest—a reminder of how close I'd come to losing control again. But today, I was determined to regain my focus.
I got out of bed quietly, moving through the silent house. On my way to the study, I stopped by Bella's room, just to check on her. Her door was slightly ajar, and I could see her curled up under the blankets, still fast asleep. There was a sense of calm in her face, a softness that made me pause. After last night, something felt different. She'd stayed by my side, comforting me without demanding answers, her quiet strength offering me peace. For a moment, I thought about waking her, but I decided against it. She needed her rest.
