章 5: Chapter 5 Their path crossed
Xavier woke up at the sound of his phone's ringing tone, he got annoyed for no reason as his beautiful dream was cut short. Whoever called did a good job.
"Hello", he took the call without looking at the phone.
"Xavier, come back to the family house today immediately you close from work", giving him no room for excuses.
" Come on mom, I have work to do, am a CEO of my own company for goodness sake", he complained.
" That's the more reason you need to come home. Everytime it's always work work work, give yourself a break".
" Mom, that will not be possible".
" Oh really? Should I tell a certain someone that you are acting this way".
" Mom"
" Huh"
" Ok you got me there. You really know my weakness. Fine I will come around after work today".
" That's more like it".
"Xavier grunted his reply and hang up few minutes later. he sighed and was about to get up when his work phone rang.
"What is the problem?"
"Sir, about the girl, I have checked and she is just an ordinary girl with no background, a highschool girl whose grades are bad and..."
"Send the information to me right away", after hanging up the call he seemed to be in a good mood and whistled a few tunes.
At the office, Xavier went about his business till evening when his mom called again to remind him about their meeting. Rubbing his glabella, he took his briefcase and went out of the office building, he was the only one left in the entire building apart from the security guards.
He told his guards not to follow him around but to go back as he is going for a family dinner, the guards looked hesitant but later complied due to his icy stare at them.
After driving for a while, he came to where the traffic held him. He gazed at the sceneries as he waited for the light to indicate when they will move.
Ava had been so busy at the library throughout the day so she happen to finish her reading around evening time. Her small bicycle stood out as she took the lane closer to the pedestrians.
Xavier moved at top speed immediately the light showed green, at an intersection he couldn't successfully press the break pad, he analyzed the situation in a calm manner and realized that someone had played a fast one on him. The break has been tempered with, fine. He made up his mind to steer the car towards the left side of the road and did same but the last thing he heard was a bang due to collision with a truck and then he lost consciousness.
Ava had been following closely behind his car for sometime, how can she forget this arrogant bully? So she was besides herself with shock when she finally saw what a wreck the accident had caused, the fuel was leaking and the car would soon explode.
She moved the bent door aside and dragged him out, she began to press his chest gently.
That fair, flawless, proud and handsome face still looked gorgeous and dazzling despite the trails of blood on his face, she tapped him and told him not to sleep.
That nose bridge, the fan like eyelashes even the arched brows made this man to be beautiful such that women would be ashame.
She got dizzy by just gazing at him, she was about to drag him away when he regained his consciousness for a brief moment. He looked at the person's figure which seemed blurred to him but he summoned courage to caress the face before him, up close this is the most beautiful sight he had ever seen, the scent from her hair wafted into his nostrils and this gave him a calming effect. This person's facial profile looks a bit like that of the arrogant girl he met previously. He slipped into unconscious state again, Ava heard footsteps from behind and a petite woman dashed forward and pushed Ava aside.
Ava forgot to react under that circumstance.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
"What does it look like am doing?"
The beautiful woman who had let her hair down in beautiful brown curls ordered her subordinates to get the car ready.
Quincy Hobbs have always been considered a beauty in her own social circle but when she saw this fresh and extraordinary beauty in front of her, she had her guards up and treated the later as an enemy.
Heavens really helped her today, she had always wanted to get closer to this incredibly powerful and handsome man but their status difference couldn't afford her to do so. She heard about the accident on this room and casually told her subordinates to go take a look, who would have known that she would see this beautiful man in the arms of this country bumpkin? She patted her back mentally for her previous foresight.
She gathered him in her arms and patted his heaven defying beautiful facial features.
"He has no time to waste, quick move him to the hospital", Ava yelled.
"Who are you to order me around?" She snorted and wished to scratch the other person's face.
"This car will soon explode but what do a brainless doll like you know". Ava looked like she couldn't bother with her anymore.
Quincy got frightened by just gazing around the accident scene but when she remembered the last part of her comment, she looked like she just swallowed a fly.
Ava had already called the ambulance which arrived quite early contrary to her expectation.
She helped the paramedics to move him and attend to him quickly. She was asked to join the patient but she declined.
"What does she know?" Quincy huffed and then joined them in the ambulance while giving Ava a smug look.
The later looked at her as if she was a fool but couldn't bother with her.
The police had already sealed off the accident scene and Ava used the period of commotion to scurry away. She just wanted a simple and peaceful life with her grandma but unknown to her her fate has been tied to Xavier through their meeting today and she had entered into his world already when he felt calm around her.
In a short while, the Charles Lawson's recieved an emergency call from the hospital and they rushed in panic to that place. The entire hospital floor was cordoned off and other patients and doctors who didn't know speculated that a big shot must have decided to use their hospital.
"Nothing must happen to my son", Xavier's mom cried while the sister seemed a bit calm.
"Mom, big brother is a strong man. He will make it".
Xavier's mom cried and could only nod her head weakly. After several hours the light in the operation room was switched off and the chief surgeon came out looking tired and weak.
"Madam, your son was lucky to be brought here on time but the most important thing is that he was given a temporary manual cardioversion procedure, whoever did that saved the last straw of his life. So he has passed the critical stage, he has a great resistance to amnesia but we have managed to make him get used to it. So he is unconscious now, he needs rest", he moved on to wash up.
The unconscious Xavier was wheeled out of the operation room and he looked like a sleeping beauty.
His personal doctor has been informed and he arrived shortly after the operation from Canada where he had a major operation to carry out.
"Madam, sir will be fine. He is a strong man".
"I told you mom, big brother will be fine".
Quincy had been sitting all this while in a corner of the hospital floor, she was surprised to see a man dressed in black suit stand before her.
"Our old madam wants to see you, follow me", the man turned on his heels and left.
" Huh", she was speechless but by the time she registered what he meant the man was already out of sight. she hurried after him.
Xavier's grandma has gotten wind of the accident although the mother daughter duo has tried to make sure she doesn't get to know.
she used her own ways and methods to get the information she wanted.
"How could the two of you ostracize me? Don't I deserve to know what is happening in that house?" she glared hatefully at them.
"Grandma It's not what you think", Xavier's sister tried to explain.
"Even you? You took sides with your mother. Am I that scary?" she was agitated beyond words.
Seeing that her condition tilted to the worse direction she tried to calm her down, fortunately Quincy appeared in time and used sweet words to soothe the old woman's anger.
"Oh grandma, anger is not good for your health. Let me get a seat for you", she guided her to a nearby seat.
Held Quincy's hands in her wrinkled ones, with warm affection spreading through her heart, she looked at her with so much love.
"I heard you rescued my grandson Xavier?"
Her heart skipped a beat, but she was not the one although.....
"Yes grandma, am the one", she gritted her teeth and answered.
"Oh dear, what a wonderful thing you did. Our family must be forever indebted to you"
Quincy's heart jumped up in excitement but she pretended to not bother.
"Oh grandma, it's just a little contribution on my own part to humanity", she looked so humble.
" If not for you, our Xavier would have been long gone. Our lineage would have been forgotten thankfully you cane right on time to rescue him".
" Oh grandma am shy. All these doesn't matter, what matters is human life. a lot if people depend on him for survival even the country too so am just doing an obligation as expected of a citizen"
"Oh my dear that's so kind and thoughtful of you. I even heard you gave me temporary cardioversion procedure, that alone saved him a great deal"
" Huh?", she was lost on what to reply. Temporary cardio what? What's that supposed to mean? En anyway who cares, just go with the flow.
"Oh grandma, it's just one of the first aid treatment to be given to an accident victim, it's nothing", she waved her hand without care but she felt proud to be associated with them.
