Yu Zixin stood at the end of the elevator, looking into the eerie corridor. The lights were flickering brightly, making it seem like a scene from a horror movie.
"There doesn't seem to be any people around here. Was this place evacuated or something, or are they hiding?" he thought. He had noted that these zombies tended to have the habit of running after any minute sound they heard. This hall might be deserted because all the zombies had run away.
The little snake around his neck poked its head out, sniffing with its eyes closed. "You smell something?"
"Um, no. You can go ahead," the snake replied, tucking itself back into his collar.
Zixin frowned slightly. "Are you sure there are no zombies in there?"
The snake did not reply to his question.
Either way, he had to venture into this horror corridor to find a way to escape this hellhole. He noticed a fire escape on the floor plan stuck to the elevator. It led to the back of the hospital. Right now, most of the zombies seemed to be concentrated at the parking entrance in the front. So if he went through the back, he might have a chance to escape without being heard or noticed.
Tightening the straps of his bag, he walked in. The thick stench of blood filled the hallway. Random pieces of bloody organs and flesh were scattered here and there.
Zixin grimaced. "Hey, are you really sure nothing is here?" he asked, patting the collar, but the snake wound itself tighter around his neck.
He paused. Until now, the snake had only reacted like this when it had sensed danger. He moved to a small corner and quickly took out a few towels, wrapping them around his shins and arms.
"You liar," he mumbled under his breath. The snake slithered. "I was only trying to help you. Killing those things can give you points. It's all for your good."
"Yeah, you're just trying to get me killed."
Taking a deep breath, he tightly gripped the knife in his hand and ventured deep through the corridor as fast as he could. The fire escape was to his right, but he had to go through a few corridors to get there.
Suddenly, a small whimpering sound stopped him. He quickly hid in a corner, sneaking a peek at the corridor ahead. The lights in this part had long gone out. Since this was part of the interior structure of the building, it was very dark.
"Mommy…" a small child's voice was heard. Zixin froze. 'Damn, there are survivors here…'
He peeked outside. A young girl, about five years old, stood in the empty corridor, hugging a teddy bear in one hand and a phone in the other. The flash was on, revealing the grotesque state of the hallway.
Suddenly, a loud creak was heard, and the girl was snatched away by something in the dark. The phone rolled out of her small hand, falling to the ground and lighting up a small part of the passage.
A huge ten-foot baby with red, bulging eyes and crooked teeth sat on the ground, holding the small girl in its hands. The girl was limp, obviously dead from its grip.
Zixin quickly hid away. 'Damn! I thought babies would be easy! I was wrong! What kind of monster zombie is this?!'
Loud crunching sounds followed his thoughts, making his stomach churn. He quickly decided to go another way. This monster was not something he could handle.
