“The way you feel about him?”

“I don’t feel anything.”

Eli sighed. “You know who you’re talking to, right?”

The wave of annoyance surprised him. She’d never been angry with him for who he was. She understood he couldn’t help it.

“I know, but I’m trying to ignore it, and most days I have it under control. It’s the stress of the situation setting it off. I don’t need some hero to come save me.”

Eli frowned and hurried to keep up with her. The yanks on the cuff weren’t pleasant. “Why do you need it under control?”

She glared. “You’re mated to a shifter.”

He was, wasn’t he? He gave her a slow nod.

“I’ve been working with Leo for three years. Had I been his mate, he’d done something about it.”

Oh…Eli didn’t know what to say.

“It’s okay. I’m going to ignore it until it goes away.”

“You don’t want to, like…go on a date with him?”

She glared. “Get involved and then have him find his true mate? No, thank you. I’m not a big fan of heartache.”
