章 6: Chapter 6 : Those Kinda Nights

Kurai was currently resting on Miku's nape. His little body fitted perfectly, and the woman didn't seem to mind the warm feeling on her neck, quite the opposite actually, she seemed to enjoy the closeness even more to the point of closing her eyes because of her tiring day.

This allowed Kurai time to think back on his life so far.

He managed to learn Japanese quite fast, since he didn't have anything else to do in his days and was already well versed in multiple languages.

Obviously, he learned it bits by bits, slowly, and the first thing he understood was his adoptive family name.

Yaoyorozu.

He heard them talk a lot after all since he couldn't talk to them, Miku was the first name he remembered then Akio. He came to appreciate life with them, and started seeing them as something different than a source of information for his new life.

Maybe his relationship with them will develop to something more close, only time could tell.

What shocked him more than anything else when he learned fully Japanese was the hypocrisy of the world.

How Heroes were showered with gold while Vigilantes were hunted down, how people shunned other people just because they were quirkless, or how dumb were the rules,...

'It's not like I don't understand where they are coming from... If people are allowed to do what they want, the world would become a jungle with quirks everywhere... But man... Restricting the usage of quirks in public even when you can prevent a crime? Ahaha...' He laughed sarcastically.

'And the problems they have with Villains...' *Sigh*

'M*fos be wondering why there are Villains in the first place when they ostracize people based on their differences... That's why being a Hero looks truly like some Italian propaganda, advertising of Top Heros everywhere, encouraging the youth to aim for Hero schools, like it's the only thing to do in life...'

He also realized the gap between his previous world and this one.

Without taking the technology into account, which took him more time than Japanese to adapt, just the people are different. He saw a lot of demi-humans or demi-something else. He also saw weird looking humans, big ones, small ones,...

It really broadened his horizons. But what stood out the most, was that here, even the average human seemed stronger than every athletic man he ever knew on earth. 'Maybe there was some kind of evolution along with the quirks' appearance?' He thought.

But he was also glad he inherited Yoruichi's powers. 'No, this is my power now, I should get used to it: 'ThunderCat' quirk. It sounds good too, heh.' While he was glad to have them he was even more pleased when he saw the whole 'memory' package gifted to him.

'She was a true work of art, in every sense, from her beauty to her strength and fighting style, she has my whole respect.' From her hand to hand combat experience, which was frightening, her swordsmanship and even how she actually managed to create a whole new moving technique, he saw it all, all her struggles, trials, fails, until she reached the pinnacle of speed and succeeded in her endeavor.

And thus receiving the 'Flash Goddess' title.

`In a sense she could be my master now that I think about it.' Indeed, in those last few months Kurai went out during the nights quite a lot.

At first, he just couldn't sleep because of his now different cycle of sleeping habits, but then he just willingly got up. Of course this change was brought up by his quirk, well not literally his quirk since it hasn't manifested yet. But this is what improved tremendously his physical abilities, and they are steadily growing to adapt to Yoruichi's.

It's like when you give a kid a toy, he won't know how to stop. Same thing for Kurai. The first night he got out and tried his speed, jump, and agility he was astonished.

He was clearly a cut out of any feline he ever saw. Well he couldn't rival a leopard yet since he was a kitten. 'But, I'm the fastest kitten alive, heh.'

What helped him a lot was his natural fur colour. He could be hidden in plain sight during the night.

The only thing betraying him were his jewel-like golden eyes.

Still, no one could ever see him during the night, or even just a darkened room. That also helped him see things he would've loved to avoid, unfortunately with his enhanced hearing, whipping noises couldn't be hidden for long.

What he tried to replicate first was Shunko, which was the movement technique developed by Yoruichi since it was the coolest technique he knew, but he soon came to know that it was impossible for him to do it. 'Shunko is 100% impossible to replicate since I need the thing she calls 'Kido', so I think I'll need to do it myself when I get the electrical part of my quirk.' Kurai hypothesized.

And since he didn't get his human body yet too... He could only settle for Shunpo training. All the memories concerning close combat and swordsmanship, which were a treasure trove for him, were useless, for now though.

Kurai started thinking. 'While I was far from being bad, and even very good for close combat, assassination-oriented style, and with sword. I just pale compared to her experience worth centuries.'

In the past few months, he kept trying to learn some of Yoruichi's abilities in this unfamiliar body, and mainly trying to learn Shunpo. But it was easier said than done. 'While I managed to get used to better hearing, and smell quite fast, physical abilities were harder.' Kurai reflected.

What he lacked was control. While his abilities weren't that impressive for a human, for his kitten body weighing 5 kilos at best, it was quite a hurdle to control the output on each limb.

Fortunately a cat always lands on its feet or else even 9 lives wouldn't have been enough. For now he could say that his physical prowess was evenly distributed between strength, agility, speed and dexterity. So he just needed to balance those out and be done with it.

Things he tried for the last months with more or less success. What would be harder is when he'll have the lightning quirk part enhancing only his speed, thus creating unbalance in his abilities. 'Meh I'll worry about that later.' Dismissed Kurai.

'For now mastering Shunpo is the main hurdle on my road, no, even a relatively good use would be impressive. There are too many quirks, some are too versatile, dangerous, or even too strong.' He added.

'If I'm fast enough to dodge them all, I'll be unattainable. No one would ever touch me.'

Another major thing that happened during the night was the golden-eyed ghost rumour spreading around in Nagoya. It was said that a ghost with golden eyes was helping random people who were about to be assaulted. Leaving the assaulters screaming in pain with scratches on their faces.

This was all Kurai's handiwork during his night activities. Sometimes during his Shunpo training sessions, he could hear, thanks to his acute hearing, screams or help shouts.

Him having a big kill board wasn't at all related to the colour of his heart.

Consequences made him do what he did in the past, but he was never evil. Someone's evil when he enjoys hurting, takes pride in wrong deeds or pleasure with others' struggle and pain.

'Something which he never did.'

What made him give a hand to those people in need wasn't a sense of justice like the heroes, or a sense of duty toward society.

'I did what I did because I am me. I am in the end a simple human, therefore I am selfish.'

Selfishness. A devil pushing him toward them. What is selfish in helping others? That is something very easy to verify. To begin with, why would someone help someone else ? Because he's kind? Or has a good heart? Or is he just that selfless? No. He just doesn't want to have weight in his conscience.

People would feel good thinking back to their good deeds.

It's the sense of self-satisfaction.

The fear of having a guilty conscience.

'While I won't feel guilty if I didn't do anything, I do know that I won't feel good either.' Thought Kurai.

'When there's an instance where I know I could easily avoid someone from suffering thievery, sexual assault or undeserved violence it is but my selfishness responding.' Continued Kurai.

'And it's not like it's hard. Just need to jump at full speed and cut their faces a bit, too bad my nails aren't long enough to inflict more damage. And thanks to this black fur, I'm undetectable during the night.' Concluded Kurai just in time to see Miku opening her round black eyes.

She smiled at him when he looked back directly into her eyes with his own. "Hello there sweetie!"

"Meow." Kurai rubbed his cheek on her chin.

"Haha! You're tickling me haha! Anyway sorry... Today was a long day and I was so tired... ugh!"

As if understanding her pain Miku saw him lick her nape cutely. "Ahah, you player, thanks for cheering me on!"

Indeed Kurai's playfulness was only enhanced by the cat traits of his. It's not like he wasn't playful to begin with but it just became more prominent with time when he got comfortable with the people around and his own skin. Just like how sometimes he could be seen trying to bully Akio, well just a tiny bit, enough to make him internally laugh.

"Miaouu." He tried to deny unfortunately Miku wasn't dupe. 'Dang this woman, how can she see through me every time?' Whined Kurai.

Just like he did with Akio, he tried doing the same to Miku. But she was a different story altogether.

'Women, what scary beings. They seem all kind when they call you 'cute' but when you anger them just a tiny bit then you should be ready for a tempest.' Shuddered Kurai thinking back to the times he received death glares when he tried his pranks on her.

Since then he learned his lessons and only settled for Akio.

"Ahaha! You can't fool me naughty kid!" Laughed Miku.

"Anyway, since you're such a good listener, why won't you listen to this old lady's ramblings again?" She asked.

"Meow." Miku heard a denying meow coming from him that made her smile again. 'My smart boy.' She thought.

Kurai settled down comfortably on his favourite place, her thighs. 'Don't worry, your ramblings are as informative as they are pleasant.' He got ready for another one of her monologues, though it was very far from annoying since he learned plenty of things.

It all started a few months back, since Miku finished her work in the store before her husband, she faithfully awaits for his comeback with Kurai on the sofa everyday. So she started talking about everything and anything to him.

How she calls herself an old lady when she's only 25. Or how she grew up in a well-off family that allowed her to meet her husband back in high school.

She also talked about her work at the clothing store. Kurai came to know that she was actually a designer, and made a lot of trendy clothes in the past. 'She still does now though.' He mentally added after remembering a few ads from his time looking at the TV.

What interested him the most was that time when she talked about their quirks. How her 'Cloth creation' quirk helped her become successful. It was a very simple quirk, she just needed to think of a design to reproduce it through her skin, thanks to her calories used as energy, which also helped her stay fit.

While her husband had his 'Calculation' quirk, which just like the title, helped him resolve equations faster.

Although the couple had very weak quirks, strength wise, useless for a hero vocation. They shouldered each other and grew up to their successful selves.

Akio and his company made a ton of money in trading thanks to his quirk and Miku became an icon for cheap clothes since she could replicate the same model easily, and expensive clothes thanks to her imagination designing them.

Their story inspired Kurai a lot, even though his quirk was more power related. It showed him the struggle of people with 'weak' quirks, their difficulties and struggles, and more importantly how they overcame all that.

It also showed him the more inner work of society, in a way. Because all that was shown until now to him were heroes and heroes, and... Heroes.

While he didn't dislike them, far from that even. It wasn't all there is in the world. After all, how could you forget about the street vendors struggling to feed their families at the end of the month? Or the diverse companies helping the country work more or less flawlessly?

'It feels like this world is as bad as the previous.' He sneered remembering this part.

Miku was looking at Kurai settling on her thighs quietly, when he was done he dropped his little head on it and closed his eyes. She smiled at that, she knew that he was still listening to her, and it was just a sign to her saying: 'I'm all ears.'

"Thanks Sweetie." She caressed his back.

"Akio will be back in a few minutes anyway, I wanted to reminisce about the past today too. But on the way back I caught myself thinking about the future."

Kurai raised his head and looked at her. 'This is new...'

"Do you know what was the first thing that came to my mind when I thought about it? It was me being a mother with a kid, ahah!

'Ah, women... Of course.' He ironically thought.
