章 8: Chapter 7
In New York City…
Avery's pov;
Today is Saturday, it's the day of the infamous exhibition which will revolutionize the world according to my uncle . I am just excited to be attending and seeing new inventions, I have been quite into technology from a young age because my father may he Rest In Peace was a program developer and app creator so everything to do with machines and stuff was something I was exposed to from early on , of course after his death I wasn't too much into it as it brought back memories of us messing around with technology but now I can say I am at a good point where I can differentiate those memories with my father's passing.
Anyways I enough of this sad ambiance I am creating , we are having fun today.
As I enter the kitchen I notice Sheila is nowhere there which means she already headed out because otherwise at this time I would find her doing some cooking or lounging around in the living room. This just means she already went to the event with professor Gary , I hope they get to spend good quality time together , it's still weird to me but I know it can go well so I am rooting for them , as for me I haven't got any calls from Lucas, I guess he understood that I don't want to talk no more but my bad luck is that I might see him today if my evil cousin Helga brings him as her plus one to the exhibition ugh , doesn't matter I'll just have to avoid bumping into them at all cost.
After an hour of taxi ride which took that long because the auditorium was too far from my appartement , i finally arrive. The place is in dome shape which makes it that much more impressive, I quickly spot the news reporters and journalists at the entrance flashing their cameras and trying to make way while being pushed back by security , I guess my uncle doesn't want them inside just yet after all if they were to be there they would be interrupting him every 2 seconds to ask a question , poor uncle *laughs .
Anyways I make my way to the entrance gate for guests and show my badge and a staff member leads me to the front row of the room to show me my seat and I wait for the show to start.
The lights start dimming and the center of the stage is illuminated and we see a veiled object and my uncle standing besides it.
"Ladies and gentlemen it is my pleasure to have you here with me on my first exhibition in two years , I have been working on a great project that I will be showing for the first time today" the audience claps and uncle AL then proceeds to take the veil off of the object and we see some sort of box that has a door and some antennas and wire things attached to it.
" This is a mind shifting machine that can bring you anywhere in this world and beyond as long as it's where you want to be , some may call it a space traveler and maybe even a time portal but I call it vortex infinity because our minds work in infinite ways and so this machine has infinite potential. I created this machine for people who need escape from the reality that we all face in this cruel capitalistic world , I deeply hope it will serve most of you . Ladies and gentlemen this was professor AL. Thankyou" everyone stood up and clapped their hands for this amazing invention, wow this is really amazing . Space travelling great job uncle , always said our family had gems , just kidding *laugh .
After greeting all the people at the event and answering reporters questions, my uncle was finally alone so I went to see him "so vortex infinite huh?" He hugs me and flicks imaginary hair to brag , silly uncle "oh you know just a little something to brighten this dark reality of ours , nothing special"
"Oh please spare me the fake humbleness uncle *laugh , it's a really genius invention though . Will I get the chance to see it from a closer view? Pretty please" I do my best doe eyes at him I know he won't resist "okay okay sure you can take a closer look but you will have to wait for the event to be over and for all these people to go so I can take you in it's storing space behind the stage. I have to go now , I will see you behind there after the people dissipate okay" I nod and he goes along to do whatever it is successful scientists do after a presentation like this.
I should probably search for Sheila to tell her I will be staying a bit longer. Now where is sh- oops I just saw Helga at the end of the corridor and of course Lucas is with her , no no no I don't want to deal with this right now , where can I hide?
"Oh Avery !" Helga yells as she approaches me with Lucas holding her waist , and he still pretends nothing is going on?
"Helga , how nice to see you here" I smile of course it's fake but you know being civil is important especially at my uncle's event I wouldn't want to make a scene and make it all about me.
"Same dear cousin , I just came to show my support to uncle and spend some time with babe , right babe?" She ask Lucas who looks anywhere but me , coward.
"Um Avery we will get going but it was really nice to see you , maybe we can talk later?" Is he dumb or is he dumb "no thank you Lucas I think all has been said and done , hope you both enjoy the rest of the event , good bye" I walk away and go check out the lounge I could rest at in the mean time.
After all the guests were gone , I met up with my uncle in the storage room that was super big and spacious and at the center was the vortex infinity in all its glory.
" This is it Avery , my baby the vortex infinity. It took me 5years to make with the team of scientists and we almost didn't launch it because we didn't know it's capacity limit , as I said in the presentation , it takes your mind in any place you think of or that has recently been registered in your brain . Again our brains can go places so this machine can be quite dangerous if used wrongly"
I advance towards it and touched the exterior and the box was very cold ,there were many buttons and I wanted to try pressing them "no don't touch that, We don't want to risk you evaporating or something now do we? Anyways when you are done admiring the vortex remember to lock the door behind you and alert someone that you left so security can come guard this okay? I have to go do something important, love you . Be careful" he kissed my forehead and went out of the door.
Okay you might be like I am crazy but I really am curious as to what this thing can do so I opened the door of the vortex and entered it then I looked at the buttons and I don't think anything bad will happen right? It's just mind shifting to places , can't go wrong . Right . I press the red button and put on the head set provided in it . Immediately the world around me becomes a blur as I get transported to God knows where , here we go I guess…
