章 129: Conflicting Emotions
Susan lay on the bed in Alex's manor, her body drained of strength, her expression a tangle of emotions. Despite Alex's recent tenderness, she couldn't decipher her feelings toward him—was it hatred or affection?
Did she despise him for his deceptive behavior, or was she drawn to his assertiveness?
She grappled with these conflicting emotions, unable to find clarity.
Watching Susan's inner turmoil, Alex softened his tone. "You're welcome to stay here from now on. If you still aspire to be an astronaut, I won't stand in your way. I don't see women as mere decorations. Like Emma, who serves in Congress, Jessica, who coaches the national gymnastics team, and Raven, who's charting her own path—I'll support you in your endeavors," he reassured her.
Reflecting on his earlier manipulation, Alex acknowledged his cunning, though he also acknowledged her deviousness.
"Alright, let's cut to the chase. Did you really overwrite my qualifications?" Susan sighed in resignation, her frustration evident. With a mischievous grin, she playfully pinched Alex.
Alex winced, marveling at Susan's unyielding spirit. This young lady certainly wasn't one to hold back!
"You definitely lied to me. You came here for Raven, and then you saw me and were drawn to me. That's the truth," Alex admitted frankly.
"Well, I must have been unlucky to have met you," Susan replied bitterly, her resentment evident.
"Alright, don't be angry. I'll make it up to you in the future," Alex coaxed, understanding when to be assertive and when to be conciliatory.
"Hmph!" Susan huffed, turning her head away.
"You don't know what you're missing out on, Miss. Let me show you how good I can be," Alex teased, raising his eyebrows playfully before tickling Susan once more.
"No more!" Susan exclaimed, surrendering quickly.
As she caught her breath, Susan found herself gazing at Alex's neck, feeling a strange mix of frustration and warmth towards him.
"Was what you said earlier true?" Susan suddenly asked.
"What?" Alex was caught off guard, not quite grasping the context.
"I mean, about not interfering with our business," Susan clarified.
"It's non-negotiable. You're not allowed to be intimate with men other than me," Alex's tone was firm.
Susan couldn't help but chuckle as she watched Alex.
Maybe he's not so bad after all, she thought. Kind of cute, even.
"You're so controlling," Susan sighed.
"Yeah, I'm quite the tyrant," Alex admitted, lifting Susan's chin and planting a kiss on her lips.
Susan responded warmly, momentarily forgetting Alex's earlier demands.
What good is having a crush? He doesn't even have the guts to go to jail for her. So what's the point?
"I want to become an astronaut and fly into space. Will you help me?" Susan leaned against Alex and asked softly.
"Definitely, just not right now," Alex replied, thinking of the Fantastic Four plot.
"Why not?" Susan asked, a hint of disappointment in her voice.
"Because mutants will soon clash with humans. It's safest for you to stay with me. I don't want you to get hurt," Alex explained softly.
"Well, I trust you," Susan said, feeling a warm sense of contentment and joy in her heart.
