So much progress had already been made within a short couple of days. Ned and Gwen perfectly met my expectations and even grew to enjoy the work as they learned more here with me than they ever did at school.
I took time to answer all their questions and helped them in understanding the technology we were making. This small bit of help went a long way as they absorbed everything like sponges.
Teaching also ended up being something fun to do or maybe it's just because my students are super geniuses making it an enjoyable experience? Food for thought.
My VR technology and Supercomputer were not the only things that had progressed recently either thanks to Fury.
The man really did stay true to his word and he even did it quite quickly. My scouts had been facing some challenges in gaining approval despite having been well received.
On one side you had people that found the scout interesting and saw it as humanity taking another step in the future. Then you had another group claiming I was planning on taking all the jobs from the middle class.
There were even people who became robot rights activists claiming that I abused my robots by not giving them any pay or say.
I didn't even know how to respond to those people and I doubt that any response would have mattered when they were missing brain cells.
Thankfully all of these obstacles were removed as I wasn't only given approval but even had a contract prepared that heavily favored me. I was sure if Fury had a hand in that last part but I wasn't complaining.
Now all I needed to do was head to City Hall and sign some more documents to make everything official.
I began getting dressed for my meeting with the mayor as I took out a completely black suit that I had customized to fit my frame. Taking inspiration from John Wick I added ballistic weave making it bulletproof and to some degree energy proof.
Once that was done I pulled out a black trench coat to hide my body. Sadly it was something I still had to do for now if I wanted to hide my recent changes.
With everything ready I made my way to my too City Hall followed by two scouts that I had as my security detail. Everyone practically knew that they came from my company so I saw no point in hiding it. Instead, I took full advantage of this and used them openly to protect myself.
However, it seemed that there were still some leeches waiting outside of City Hall. Apparently, these guys were still hovering around.
Flash Flash Flash Flash
The moment I stepped out of the car my eyes were assaulted by the pictures taken by reporters.
Raising my hand to cover my eyes. I gave a light frown as I was reminded once again why I didn't like these people.
"Mr Dagon over here! What do you have to say about the accusations made against you claiming you want to take jobs from the people?" A woman shouted with a glint in her eyes before she was cut off by another reporter.
"No, ignore her Mr Dagon why are you using this technology in police work rather than the military? The people want to know!" The man exclaimed as he shoved against his fellow reporters
"Sir! Is it true that you abuse Robot rights by making them do forced labor!" This reporter seemed to be the loudest of the bunch as she screamed at the top of her lungs. Thankfully the others also seemed annoyed by her as she got pushed to the back.
Analyzing the crowd I recognized many familiar news stations and some popular reporters. I wasn't much for PR and didn't really need the people's approval. If I wanted to do something then I'd just do it but that didn't mean it didn't help.
With that in mind, I decided it would be good publicity to speak to these people before handling my business.
Raising my hand I held out a finger to let them know that I had something to say. Getting the hint the reporters quickly calmed themselves as multiple cameras focused on my face.
"I will only answer two questions today to ease the hearts of the people. So choose wisely." Looking through at the people gathered I recognized a fairly popular news station and pointed towards them.
The group immediately made their way to the front recognizing that they had been chosen to ask the questions. Much to the disappointment of the other reporters there who had hoped for a chance.
"Mr Dagon, earlier one of my colleagues asked why you had chosen to make a partnership with the police of New York rather than the military. Would you mind answering that question for us?" The young reporter said as he gestured toward the man who had been shoving against the rest of the crowd earlier.
"No problem at all. You see I greatly respect the police and appreciate all that they do but this doesn't change the fact that they have dangerous jobs. To lessen this I built the Scouts. Their job would be more focused on high-risk situations that would usually end in the loss of life such as bombs, hostages, gangs, and terrorism. As for why I didn't partner with the Military? Well, that is because I haven't had the chance to do so. However, once an opportunity arises then I may be up for the offer." The reporters seemed to like my reply as they quickly jotted down notes and ideas of their own.
The reporter who asked the question suddenly looked like he thought of something before asking "Will the scouts be the robots used for the military or do you have another model?"
"Is that your second question?" I asked him, noticing that he mostly asked out of curiosity without thinking it through.
This caught him by surprise as his coworker yanked him back a bit as they talked about it.
"No, but I'd still like to know…"
Heh I guess I could answer that one for them
"No, I don't plan on using the same design. The scouts are built and programmed for Law Enforcement, not war."
The reporter looked grateful as his coworkers gave him a thumbs up. Without realizing it my willingness to answer his question had just guaranteed him a raise.
"Last Question" I said wanting the get this along
Hearing this he looked down at his notes before choosing from a list of premade questions.
"You've confirmed that you'll be working with the New York Police and have even shown openness to the American Military but how about outside of the States? Will you eventually expand beyond our borders making your technology more widely available"
Now this was a dangerous question… it seems I had been too nice to this guy. The government wouldn't take kindly to my tech being widespread so I had to be careful with my words.
"Beyond the states? Well, I can see that as a possibility but one far into the future. First I'd like to better establish myself as I perfect my craft" This sort of response should ease them somewhat since I really don't plan on expanding behind just yet. However, once I do there would be hardly any way to stop me.
After this many more pictures were taken of me and some gutsy reporters even took the risk to get close to the scouts as they took selfies. I just smiled at their antics as I had the scouts create an opening in the crowd for me to reach the building.
At least that was the case until my enhanced hearing picked something up from down the street that drew my attention. The sound wasn't clear at first but after some time I soon recognized what it was…. Screams lots of screams and it was getting closer.
