Back at the safe house, Arthur thought of all the records he found in that secret room.
Silently tapping away his thoughts by the second...
While sorting his thoughts, he was also thinking of what he would do in the future.
Finding his own information with Lindsey (previously Lindaddy) shocked Arthur a lot. And all the excitement he had of living in a new world, a world he adored, came crashing down. The game is all fun to watch but playing it might be a lot harder than what most make out to be. The reality of this world came crashing down on him. It was very much a real world, and his actions did have consequences—no matter how small or big. Now he must walk the path his existence has created.
Was he prepared? Nope. Not once did he think that he would be targeted. Arthur just planned on being the 'Hero of the Day' and the real world decided to throw a wall into his face to wake him up.
Small steps first.
How did he get in their list? He never did anything noteworthy nor did he hold a position high enough to assassinate. It is true that he did show some skill in marksmanship and took credit for a recent mission, but that was all there was. In this period where everyone held a gun and marched in war, some people must have shown remarkable skills too. Does that mean Hydra listed them all? Either Hydra was extremely paranoid or there were things he did not yet know.
-Hmmm-
If Lindsey did send off that information, then he should already be on their watchlist. If Lindsey did not send it, then eventually someone else would point him out as a threat to Hydra—that much Arthur understood now.
As far as he knew—by now, Schmidt, Hydra's current leader, should already have the tesseract with him. With Dr. Zola's intellect, soon weapons powered by the tesseract itself would appear, tilting the current balance in the war.
Since Arthur would be targeted sooner or later, then he might as well take the initiative to make trouble. He had nothing to lose anyway.
Arthur suddenly had an impulse, to send a message to the moustache and tell him that Schmidt was going to betray him.
But this was just a thought, there was no way to do it and neither did he want to try.
"I really... miss the fights on the frontlines... they were so much simpler."
Arthur stretched himself, sighing softly, trying to wake up his exhausted body and mind.
He stood up: "First, continue to improve my skills! They are the only real, the function of the decomposition machine is extremely powerful, need to make good use of it!"
Then his sight moved to the bookshelf and he immediately facepalmed.
He forgetting to take the books from Lindsey's secret room!!! No one knew what he kept there and a few books that no one knew about would raise no suspicions.
Arthur was heartbroken because this might have helped his system to upgrade!! QAQ
"My system still needs to be upgraded! It might have been a few books but if he was correct then upgrading his system would get difficult later on."
He mumbled: "The things that I can reduce currently seems to only be books and weapons. Can the system process other things? "
Looking around the room, he randomly grabbed a box and then used the system.
[ This item cannot be processed. System level insufficient.]
-Sure enough, the systems level is low…-
-But if you think about it, eventually he could disintegrate even something as ridiculous as air itself. If the system had enough levels…-
-But I really wish it told me how much experience it needs to upgrade itself…sigh…...-
"If someone was writing my life as a novel, then I want to ask something... Author, does your brain not work? ..."
Every time after processing an item, there would be a line of [Exp +1], something that annoyed him greatly.
But now, he was desperate enough to farm Exp.
Grabbing a book from the bookshelf, he chucks it into the system.
While the system processed his books, Arthur was once again lost in thoughts--If his newfound talent for genomics is revealed, then it would just give Hydra one more reason to kill him.
He really did $uck himself, didn't he...
A chime brought him out of his thinking.
[Alert!]
[The item was successfully disintegrated!]
[Obtained:
>Biochemistry knowledge Exp*1]
[System Exp +1]
[System has enough Exp to upgrade. Upgrade will Begin automatically after this notification. During the upgrade, the disintegration function will not be available! Obtained skills/Knowledge and system space can be used during the upgrade.]
[System is upgrading...]
[DO YOU WANT TO EXTRACT? Y|N]
"Speak of the Devil- I actually got enough Exp to level up my system!"
When he was ready to take out his new skill books and absorb it, *KNOCK KNOCK*, he was disturbed with knocks on his door.
Arthur's mind immediately thought of Carter-only Carter had ever disturbed him so late in the night, and last time it was to break into a house and that too against military orders!!!
Slowly opening the door and he instead found a drunk man standing outside his door!
"Eh?"
He suddenly felt that instead of having a old drunkard at his doorstep, it was better to have a woman, even if that woman was Carter… At least she was pleasing to the eyes…. and did not smell bad.
Dr. Erskine pushed the door open and went in: "You are still awake?"
Arthur s speechless. -If you thought I was asleep, why even knock?-
"Ah… You young men are always awake at nights." The doctor sighed again.
Arthur:????????????
