章 7: Chapter 7 - Reports and Potential
Marsil continued to advance until the evening. He took a deep breath and leaned against a tree before sitting down on the ground.
"I am really weak..."
He muttered to himself and raised his right hand, clenching it into a fist. The feeling of weakness and doubt was undermining his confidence. The only thing he had was the determination not to succumb to negative thoughts and situations.
"Whether in the future or the past, what does it matter?"
"I am certain that I can fulfill my potential."
Marsil reassured himself and leaned his head against the tree, gazing up at the sky.
His eyes grew heavy, and before long, he surrendered himself to the embrace of sleep.
Lenkas was sitting in his room, having breakfast. He was also studying a document that was placed on his table.
"This situation can change things."
The document contained a list of the escaped prisoners and their identities, along with relevant details from their pasts.
After going through the document for a while, Lenkas found two suspicious individuals among the escaped prisoners. One was directly suspicious, and the other was more of a victim. He didn't even need to be a prisoner.
"Eval Morningstar."
Lenkas whispered and continued to contemplate.
"Eval supposedly lived on Broken Rock Island, which is the nearest island to the northern part of the North Region."
"I know that there is the Sky-North Temple on Broken Rock Island, and it is known for housing wizards. If Eval lives there, he must undoubtedly know one of them, perhaps even a member of the Sky-North Temple."
"Sky-North Temple might have orchestrated the explosion to rescue Eval."
Lenkas sipped his tea and finished his breakfast. He took the document in his hand and began to pace around the room. Walking often helped him think.
"The victim is a young man named Marsil. He doesn't have a surname, and the only thing known about him is that he came from Memphis Island as a traveler to Whiterock City."
"The reason for him being the victim is that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The influential Freghter Family needed someone young and defenseless like Marsil to be blamed and sent to prison instead of their own son, who is close in age to Marsil."
"In short, the powerful Freghter Family pointed the finger at Marsil, a nobody and vulnerable young man, and closed the case."
"Marsil seems to be free of suspicion. I don't have much personal knowledge about Memphis Island."
Lenkas returned to his chair, took another sip of tea, and massaged his temples.
"According to this, Eval is the prime suspect, but there is no direct connection between him and the young man Marsil, even if the possibility of a wizard rescuing Marsil from prison is considered."
Just then, there was a knock on Lenkas's door, and he responded authoritatively, "Come in!"
A young guard entered the room. He had a strong physique despite his young age.
"Lord Lenkas, the document I have contains information about which guards died or got injured during the recent riot, which bodies of guards we found, which prisoners we caught, and which ones are still missing."
Lenkas acknowledged the guard and replied, "Good job. Leave the document on my desk and return to your duty."
The guard nodded in agreement, placed the document on the table with respect, saluted Lenkas, and left the room.
Lenkas picked up the new document and started reading it. After a few hours, he took a deep breath and swallowed hard.
"Eval and Marsil are both missing prisoners. Their escape makes them more suspicious, especially Eval, the elderly man."
Lenkas knew that Marsil was innocent, but he was also experienced enough to know that being innocent didn't necessarily mean he wasn't involved. After all, rules were made by the strong, and the weak had to comply.
For Lenkas, the case is closed for now.
