"I thought you wouldn't appear"
The woman in pajama set disclosed. Slightly glaring at the man who was standing at the door with flowers bouquet in his hand.
"I am sorry. I was with a friend and he won't let me go so I had to wait for him to pass out after three bottles" The man replied.
Beaming with a grin to soothe his girlfriend's anger. "A friend? What is his name?" She questioned with a frown.
Not letting the man step into her apartment until he answered truthfully.
"Umm.. James" the man replied. "I have never heard of that name before, Zane"
The woman stated with a cold gaze. "Come on! Let me in! It is freezing outside!" The man grumbled. "Answer my question first then"
Vera retorted. Hushing down Zane.
"I swear, James is a new friend of mine. I couldn't leave him alone since we're not that close"
Zane explained as the woman did not respond. Observing him quietly to search for lies. "Stop detecting me, Vera. I am going to die from this fucking frigid weather!"
The man whined. Begging his girlfriend to calm down. "Alright. Alright. But don't do this ever again"
Vera warned. Earning a nod back from the man. Her boyfriend did not accept her phone calls and refused to text back.
Explaining his phone was on mute and he was busy with stopping his friend from drinking.
The reason why Vera was upset at him.
"Thank you"
Zane grinned and walked in as the woman accepted the flowers bouquet. "It is almost midnight. Why are you still awake?"
The man queried and settled down on the couch.
"To confront you" Vera responded and rolled her eyes in annoyance.
Sitting beside her boyfriend after placing the flowers bouquet on table.
"Awwn, my baby is so cute" Zane leaned in and planted a kiss on the woman's cheek. Hugging her tightly between his arms.
"Let me go, you jerk! I can't breathe!"
Vera complained.
Trying to push off the man. "Nope. You have no idea how much I missed you. So endure it. I am not going to stop"
Zane murmured. Kissing his girlfriend's neck passionately.
"Idiot. I hate you" Vera muttered.
"I love you too" he whispered in her ear when he heard the woman's words.
The moment Vera gave in. "Whatever" she replied and smiled. Leaning in for a kiss. From a gentle peck to passionate kiss to making out in bed.
That's how they ended up spending the rest of time. "Zane" Vera called the man who was on phone after having fun in bed.
"Hmm?"
He raised his brows with a tedious expression while eyes glued to phone screen.
"Do you know what day this saturday is?" Vera queried.
Resting her back on bed's headboard. With a blanket covered her body, she fidgeted.
Glancing to the left side where her boyfriend was. "Isn't it twenty?" Zane responded.
Still not paying attention to the woman. A frown appeared on her face. Revealing how much the woman was disappointed.
"Seriously? It is our second anniversary!"
She raised her voice. Frustrated by the fact that her boyfriend did not even remember.
Zane faced his girlfriend who was furiously breathing.
"Oh right!!"
He gasped with a guilty smile displayed on his face. Holding Vera's hand as he silently asked for forgiveness after putting the phone down.
"I am sorry. Since my uncle has been giving me training a lot, I failed to look at the calendar"
Zane disclosed. Pouting to gain the woman's pity. "You jerk. Always blaming on your uncle for busy schedule"
Vera mumbled in irritation.
Glaring at her boyfriend silently. "Well, I am Zane Kingston. You can't find a fault with it" The man retorted.
Hushing down the woman.
Zane Kingston, the nephew of most feared French mafia leader. Zane did not have any other relatives other than his uncle and grandmother.
He got along with his grandmother. But it did not mean he had a good relationship with his uncle either.
Her boyfriend would grumble how much he loathed his uncle almost everyday.
And Vera would be the one who soothe his anger. His uncle was a bit harsh.
Giving training to her boyfriend whenever he got a chance. To be honest, Vera disliked him also.
For punctuating her and Zane from meeting. But she couldn't blame him though.
Because their relationship was hidden from every single person.
Zane required to veil their relationship to keep Vera safe from any harm in view of the fact that there're people out there trying to find weak spot of him.
So no one knew about them dating. "Whatever. You have to show up on anniversary or else I will torture you till the death"
Along with a cold gaze, Vera threatened the man.
Making him chuckled in entertainment.
"Yes Ma'am. I will celebrate the anniversary with you only" he responded.
Kissing Vera's cheek.
----
'It's beyond an hour of the time when we agreed to meet'
Under the dim light, a girl around twenty six sat there with a scowl. Waiting for someone to show up. And yet she hadn't seen a hint of shadow.
Would he even come tonight though?
A thought crossed her mind as she let out a sigh. Today was their two year anniversary.
Her favorite day of the year because she could be able to meet him for long hours. Unlike other days where he used to leave immediately due to emergency calls.
But he's a good man though. He would never cheat on her for sure.
Vera also understood his busy schedule for the reason that her boyfriend wasn't an ordinary person. Assuming the fact that he was the nephew of most feared French mafia leader.
She could never speak out loud complaints. And always had to think in positive way.
Vera's eyes shifted only to discover almost everyone had left the restaurant since it was already midnight.
"Gosh, when will he show up?!"
She furiously murmured. Peering down at the fancy watch on her wrist with a frown.
"If he did not make appearance even after thirty minutes, I would definitely leave from here" she quietly settled.
And the countdown commenced. Milliseconds to second. Seconds to minute. They kept passing as her brows pulled together.
Wrinkling her brows in disappointment whenever a minute flied. "Bae!" A thrilled voice caught her attention fully.
Delighting Vera's mood wholly as she looked up to the side promptly.
There he was, her best ever boyfriend. His necktie was a mess. It appeared he rushed up.
The flowers bouquet in his grip captured her observation. Turned out he still remembered their anniversary ceremony at least.
Vera got up from the seat with a grin displayed on her face. Running into his arms. He hugged her back without hesitating.
His hand on her shoulder was freezing like an ice. Sending shivers down to her spine.
"Why the heck didn't you wear a jacket?!" She broke the hug with a frown. Slightly glaring at Zane for being late.
"I dashed up to see my pretty girlfriend. It's no wonder I forgot to bring a jacket"
With a sweet smile, he jokingly stated. Cupping her cheeks as he leaned in. Planting his lips against hers softly.
There was no one in the restaurant anymore.
The waiters and waitresses worked behind the kitchen due to Zane's order.
"For my bae!"
He passed the flowers bouquet to Vera after breaking a kiss between them.
Peering at his girlfriend's pretty smile. "Thank you!" Vera held the flowers bouquet. Her teal blue eyes glinted.
Gratifying Zane who was observing in admiration.
"Come on! Let's sit! I am hungry"
Vera dragged her boyfriend to the table. Making him settled down at the seat as their anniversary ceremony commenced.
"Is your grandmother doing well?"
Vera queried. Taking a sip of the wine. Zane's grandmother was not in good condition.
She had been in bed for years. The doctor were trying their best to keep her remain alive.
No one could tell when she would depart the world since her disease was infrequent as hell.
Zane nodded as a response. "Yes, she can eat now" Rejoicing sparkled in Zane's jade green eyes.
It clearly disclosed how much he loves his grandmother a lot. "I am glad to hear" Vera smiled warmly.
Happy to see her boyfriend's grin.
"By the way, I have something to require" Vera stated in the middle of enjoying dinner. Capturing Zane's attention fully. "Yes?" His brows wrinkled in curiosity.
Staring at her fidgeting in anxiety. A sigh escaped between his lips.
Seizing Vera's hand firmly as they locked their eyes. "I am listening, bae" he declared. Watching his girlfriend swallowing out of anxiety.
"I want to talk about our relationship" Vera affirmed. Perplexing the man a bit.
He tilted his head with furrowed eyebrows.
Showing he was patiently waiting for her explanation.
"It is been two years since we dated. Also you are a part of my future. I don't want to lose you to anyone. How about making an engagement? I would like to marry you only. Please"
Vera added up.
Hushing down the man wholly. Silence was loud so that she started concerning over the situation like a fool.
Zane let out an exhausted sigh.
"I understand what you mean"
He patted her hand. Delighting her entirely. Making her lips formed into a grin. Believing he would approve her.
"But it is too early"
The next words from him disappointed Vera again. Causing her smile to fade away instantly.
"What do you mean with it is too soon? Our ages are not eighteen, Zane. We are nearly thirty. We have to consider for our future kids" Vera grumbled.
Divulging the marriage was essential in her life.
Zane's lips curved up into a smirk. "Future kids huh?"
His brows waggled. Teasing the woman.
It caused her to clear throat to brush away her flushed cheeks.
She could not get swayed by his words right now. She had to focus. "I am being serious, Zane"
A slight glare from her made the man chuckle out of admiration.
"I know. I know. But it will take time for us to get married. So please wait for me patiently. I promise! I will marry you for sure! You are the only woman I love. My one and only"
Zane's response delighted the woman in some way but also annoyed her somehow.
Did she have an opportunity though? She could not complain. She had to wait as he said.
That's what she could achieve at the moment.
And like that Vera ceased mentioning about their future.
But who would have thought she had to wait for another two whole years and only to find out there's no future as she anticipated?
