章 21: Chapter 21: An Invitation

Adrian’s POV

I swing the door open to my office and sit behind the large wooden desk with my feet kicked up as I wait for Cleo to show up.

I summoned her to my office first thing in the morning after seeing her outside with Sheila the afternoon before. I made sure to do it discreetly so as not to draw too much attention.

I’m determined to get the answers I’m looking for.

A knock at the door a short time later draws my eyes to the sound, and I watch as Cleo gingerly walks into the room. The sun is barely shining through the window behind me, but I can still see the nervous look on Cleo’s face as she walks toward me.

I don’t wait for her to say anything, and I instead cut to the chase.

“Why did you give Alicia a poisonous plant?”

My voice is dark and deep as I cross my arms tightly over my chest. I’m not letting her get away with this any longer.

Cleo shakes her head. “I-I don’t know what you—”
