章 16: Chapter 16: Pretending

Alicia's POV

"She is?" I say, raising my brow at Cleo. "What's wrong with her?"

Cleo looks around the room at the multiple pairs of eyes on her.

"She, uh…has a fever," she finally says. "She feels weak, has a fever and loss of appetite, and can't get out of bed."

As much as I dislike Sheila for what she and Cleo have done to me in the two weeks I've been here, I can't refuse to help someone. It's just not in my nature to do so.

"Alright," I say. "Take me to her."

"I'll come with you," Adrian mutters as he follows us out of the door.

I don't ask why he wants to come with me, because I'm enjoying his interest and company too much. The war he's fighting in his head is becoming more visible to me, and his guard is getting lower, every time we interact.

The three of us walk quietly down the hallway to Sheila's room. Michelle leaves to go meet up with Jean, and I can't help but wish I could have her by my side in case Sheila tries anything shady.
